Remember when people were surprised this company out of nowhere was acquiring studios left and right and Sony was doing nothing? Well...maybe there's a reason for it.

This looks more and more like a company that had no idea how videogames worked and how long it would take them to get their invested money back. What a trainwreck. I really hope some of those Eidos studios won't close like Crystal Dynamics.

I think Embracer said Gearbox might also buy themselves out and become independent again like IO did. Hope they do, don't care for Borderlands but they do own Homeworld and are working on HW3.

That would actually be the best outcome IMO

Locking up Deus Ex, Thief and Tomb Raider on Nintendo hardware? 🤮

Maybe Tecmo will buy Tomb Raider so we can finally have the remake by Team Ninja.

Embracer has to be one of the biggest scams ever and yet few ppl care.
Why they are a scam? They or their subsidiaries published Dead Island 2, Remnant II, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Payday 3, Little Nightmare 2, Chorus, Metro Exodus, Kingdom Come, Pathfinder Kingsmaker, Wasteland 3 and so on. They are a respectable player in the industry and downplaying them is just unfair. You can do not like them, but a scam? Come on man

They invested a bunch of billions in an industry they didn’t understand, call it restructuring as much as you want it is just sounds like cutting your loses to everyone else

No…Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP should go to Playstation, you know the system with a long history with the franchise and devs…smh

Tomb Raider has now been a non-PlayStation franchise for longer than it was a PlayStation one.

It's like still considering Resident Evil a 'PlayStation franchise'.

Not to mention that Tomb Raider was on Windows from the beginning.

I have a couple of questions:

- Do the studios really own any IP, or is it the property of the previous publishers? I know that Remedy had to buy the rights to Alan Wake from MS despite the studio never having been owned by MS.
- Is the IP really worth the possible asking price? Tomb Raider is a very recognizeable brand, but worth owning in 2020's? Is Borderlands still relevant? Do you really see Deus Ex utilized in the future?

As much as I appreciate those franchises, I would not greenlight or bankroll any big budget games in those series, let alone buy the rights to these properties first. It's not worth it, just develop a new IP and own the rights from the get-go.

You want Phil to purchase Crystal Dynamics just to shut them down?

Better Phil than some nobody company like "Embracer"

MS better move quick though, it looks like Embracer is going fast here. There won't be anything left to acquire if MS doesn't announce the acquisition soon

Microsoft have got fires to put out first.

Philly Spence's email sperges leaking.

And Panos Panay leaving six days before the Surface event. Apparently with a lot of the Surface hardware team as well.

Tomb Raider, RE, Yakuza, Persona, GTA, and other franchises are still intrinsically tied to PS because it was there at their start and played a huge part in their success as its where their initial entries sold the majority

Surface is dead. It's been dormant for a decade already, this is just the formal death certificate

At least we won't need to watch NFL games with the things in front of the broadcasters calling them iPads anymore

For Kingmaker they refused to pay for console patches, hence the crap stwte of the game on them.

Publishers do bad business decision sometimes, they also spent money on Saints Row (lol). However we are talking about a giant with dozens of studios and thousands of developers. Scam publisher is a very bad take to read on a forum of gaming enthusiasts

Doesnt alter the fact it has more association with Playstation as well as sales, than on Xbox….Really not hard to comprehend….

In order for this to happen, gaming audiences have to stop expecting AAA projects from companies that simply can't afford the budget to release that level of content.

Crystal Dynamics should go back to AA., THQ should go back to AA or B-level, Volition(RIP) should never have tried to be AAA, etc.

I really miss the fun AA titles we used to get.

Wut?
They literally just announced Surface devices days ago. Not sure why I have to spoon-feed you with info you can find for yourself 😂
and their flagship surface pro 10 will probably be announced during separate event. Might be something special for 10th anniversary.
