Star Control 2.
Renamed to Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters

Was extremely highly rated on release, but forgotten by most due to the passage of time. Still an incredible game with a terrific story, fantastic music and really cool alien species and dialogue. A sequel is expected this year called Children of Infinity. Star Control 3 was not made by the original dev team, and Star Control (1) was not a story game, just a top down space combat game. Nothing is missed by playing Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters.

If the aesthetic is fine for you, it's one of the best pseudo-RPGs ever made. I expect nobody will see this post, but if you want a modern day hidden gem, here it is. One of the best games ever made.
