The original was fundamentally great but held back by its low budget, bad UI, and general lack of polish. It was a prime candidate for a remake like this; I'm amazed and glad that it happened.
I especially love this returning aspect of the original: "The best example comes from a skill you can select at the start of the game called 'Power Behind the Throne. ' No one knows you've got it, but if you buddy up with another archfiend and swear allegiance to them, when they win the game, you suddenly overthrow them and become the winner yourself." Brilliant mechanic that adds a beautiful layer of paranoia to the game, even if no one actually picks the skill.
