Malaysia Airliner MH370 was 'shot down by the US military', former airline CEO claims

Still speculation but it's interesting that this theory is being given more credence.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 was shot down by the United States as it approached a secretive U.S. military base on Diego Garcia Island in the remote Indian Ocean, according to French writer and former airline chief Marc Dugain. The writer proposed his new Flight 370 theory, which he says involves a massive cover-up involving the intelligence agencies of several countries, in the leading French magazine Paris Match last week.

Diego Garcia is a remote island of just 17 square miles owned by Great Britain, but leased by the United States for use as a military installation. The base has been shrouded in mystery, reportedly being used as a secret destination for Al Qaeda-linked prisoners interrogated by the U.S. under the so-called “extraordinary rendition” program.

The tiny island has also been used by the U.S. as a launching base for long-range missiles and B-2 and B-52 bomber planes in both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Dugain, interviewed on French radio Thursday, said he was warned against investigating the links between Diego Garcia and Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 by a shadowy “Western intelligence officer,” identified as British by the writer, who was formerly the head of Proteus Airlines, a small regional French carrier that operated from 1986 to 2001.

Dugain believes that the Malaysia Airlines plane was the victim of a high-tech hijack, with hijackers commandeering the plane’s electronic communication and navigation systems electronically rather than simply by force. The electronic hijack theory is a widely held one, even proposed in a recent U.S. Public Broadcasting documentary.

Flight 370 then flew toward the Indian Ocean, as the multi-national search team now scouring that area also believes, according to Dugain. But he says that a U.S. base with the technological sophistication of Diego Garcia could not possibly have failed to sight the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 as it approached.

Fearing a 9/11-style suicide crash attack, the U.S. forces on Diego Garcia may have then shot the plane out of the sky, Dugain believes.

In the days immediately following the baffling March 8 disappearance of Flight MH370, reports that the plane had been sighted flying extremely low over the Indian Ocean island of Maldives surfaced in the press. Dugain said he interviewed the mayor of another nearby island where a piece of debris that, allegedly, was identified as a fire extinguisher of the type used in Boeing aircraft washed up two weeks after the disappearance.

But Maldives authorities seized the supposed fire extinguisher, according to Dugain.

In the early days of the MH370 investigation, Diego Garcia was speculated to be a secret landing place for the plane.

But Dugain stressed that his belief that Flight 370 was shot down over Diego Garcia is just that — a belief. The only fact of which Dugain says he is certain, “is that someone knows” what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 — but that “someone” isn’t talking.

For a second I thought they were talking about MH17 and was rolling my eyes. The Diego Garcia theory in regards to MH370 was being thrown out there within the first week of it disappearing. It pretty much came down to people drawing a line from it's last known course and seeing what was around there. One of the things happened to be a US military base. That's really the only connection people are making.

This guy is a clown and has been spouting nonsense for awhile now. You can be the head of an airline and know nothing about airplanes.

this is a pretty common conspiracy theory regarding mh370

as he admits, there is zero evidence it is true

it also does nothing to explain why the plane ended up there

Without getting into conspiracy theories, it is a possibility that the Americans stopped this plane,” he told France Inter, according to a translation by The Local.

It is also a possibility that aliens.

Hasn't this been claimed for months? The Aussie tabloid sites have been posting this stuff now and then for clicks. he really has no evidence, even though the whole thing does seem very unusual. Most people seem to have seen that Diego Garcia is around there and drawn some wild conclusions.

And like someone said, just being an airline boss means nothing. I'd lend more credence to the Emirates guy but even then who knows what went on without evidence.

I'm not saying this is true but you never know. Missiles go up in the air all the time and the united states has the most missiles... so. Percentages.

LOL we just had like hours ago "real" news on the story:

Sorry for the google translate.

That story is MH17, not 370.
I'm pretty sure the rebels twitter account mentioned shooting down a military plane at the same time the jet airliner was shot down. It was taken down when it was found out that he shot down a jet airliner instead. The Tweet should still be out there.
Again, that was MH17.

lol. I just showed this to my brother that was stationed there for a few years and his response was, "The only true part of any of that is the size of the island, that it's owned by the brits, and that it's a launching base for bombers."

Completely plausible, also would explain all those crazy-ass theories the u.s. media spill out during the months following the incident.

evidence to support:
• US Navy testing lasers at sea
• US has shot down passenger aircraft in the past
• Expert opinion of airline CEO

evidence to dismiss:
• ?

What do you have to say about the accusations that you're a child molester?

Yeah, no. Any shoot down that close to shore and we'd be finding tons of wreckage by now that they just couldn't cover up. This is a wild theory at best.

The only fact of which Dugain says he is certain, “is that someone knows” what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 — but that “someone” isn’t talking.

So he's 100% certain about this?

jesus christ no wonder people believe in conspiracy nutter nonsense, when your bar for "evidence" is that catastrophically low that you'll believe anything

But Dugain stressed that his belief that Flight 370 was shot down over Diego Garcia is just that — a belief. The only fact of which Dugain says he is certain, “is that someone knows” what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 — but that “someone” isn’t talking.

Being an 'expert' makes you no more likely to be correct on conspiracy nutter nonsense than anyone else. The same way that airline pilots and law enforcement are actually MORE likely to incorrectly identity UFOs as foreign/alien.

This is a guy's gut feeling.

The fact that the USA is testing lasers at sea has zero correlation to this event. That's not evidence of anything. Nor is the fact that the USA has shot down a passenger plane in the past. This is sheer willful bulllshit attempted to be propped up as more compelling than it is, by people who don't understand what the word "evidence" means.

lol....okay...so you're saying you strung random words into sentences and then strung those into a 'theory'. sure whatever

you're arguing with freenudemacusers

There's as much chance if it being true as any other theory, since we know shit all what really happened.

But people will mock without reading, based on the headline.

direct evidence would be easy for the US to clean up without a trace given the known and unknown technology the military possesses, circumstantial evidence and a history of similar events can't be hidden so easily.

What do you have to say about the accusations that you're a child molester?
there isn't any evidence to support this notion; now if someone wrote an article theorizing about this accusation it would hold more water.
