Just curious, but why do people think AC will get a boost because of the DSL?

a lot of people have been mentioning that AC has been popular purchase with DS-L and that many DS-L customers are new DS users.

Disgaea 2: 105,000
Disgaea 1 launch: 50,000 / 133,000

Better comparison would be the Phantom Kingdom launch last year. I'm pretty sure the normal + LE was about 90k~100k opening. So Disgaea 2 is about in line.

But HOLY SHIT this is these worst week of sales in Japanese sales history. Besides Sengoku/SuikodenV/Disgaea2...EVERYTHING BOMBED

Samurai Champloo = EXCELLENT GAME = NOT EVEN IN THE TOP30 = < 10k sold.
Ibara = AWESOME shmup = NOT EVEN IN THE TOP30 = <10k sold.
Gunstar Heroes: Treasure Box = BEST PORTS EVER MADE = NOT EVEN IN TOP30 = <10k sold.
Baten Kaitos 2 = GREAT QUALITY RPG = #15 = ~20k sold.
Monster Kingdom = GREAT ORIGNAL PSP RPG = #17 = < 20k sold.
Suikoden I&II = AWESOME = #16 = < 20k sold.

Ibara, Gunstar, and Suikoden I&II probably at least broke even due to very cheap development costs. But I'm guessing Grasshopper or Bandai is getting screwed on Champloo, and Sony and Gaia are DEFINITELY getting screwed on Monster kingdom. Nintendo and Monoliith Soft are losing money/getting screwed on BKII, and out of everything on there Disgaea 2 is probably the only game making real money considering they cost like nothing to make.

I blame it mainly on companies releasing ~10 high quality 8/10~10/10 level games on a single day. But companies are gonna go out of business at this rate.

I think duckroll said it right when he told me "If you want any money you have to put your console game on PS2 and handheld game on DS". Japan should just give up and stick to one console + one portable future since they can't seem to accept anything else.

Ah, okay. It's understandable about the software sales then. Thanks.

I thought the general consensus was that this game was utter dogshit? Or was that just the graphics?

Did we ever get Namco's expectations for Baten Kaitos II, or is that Nintendo's job? I'm betting on it being Nintendo's, but I'm not 100% sure.

That was just the consensus on the graphics before the game came out.

Samurai Champloo is the new game by Gouichi Suda...director of a little old game called Killer 7. Champloo is basically the spiritual sequel to Killer 7 in style and anyone who likes the Champloo anime and Killer 7 will love the game. Even the music, which is by the Killer 7 composer, is completely awesome. It's not 10/10, but from how far I've gotten it's at least an 8/10 and possibly the best anime-based game ever (close between this and One Year War).

Nintendos job. But considering how rich Nintendo is I don't think they care if it only sells a few thousand copies. As long as it shows GC (and maybe Revolution) has a mature serious rpg franchise they're happy.

Since Nintendo is the publisher it would be Nintendo's job.

Well, there was a big Children of Mana banner at some store.

I think the biggest detriment to DS game sales will be that you have a ton of people who sold their old DS systems thinking they could get a DSL on release, but when going to the stores today they found out they were all sold out. These people surely won't be buying DS games.

If Nintendo had met the demand and had 300k-500k systems in stores, the game sales for the week would be insanity. But I just don't see it happening with the small amount of systems actually in circulation.

granted, but why would they then pick up Rockman Rockman!?

you know, there are still millions of DS's out there, the games might still sell, it's not like the DSL has reset their userbase counter to zero.

not sure if a "ton" of people have sold their DS's to be quite honest, recent games sales figures don't seem to agree with that surely?

You take things too seriously :p

I don't expect anyone with a DS to magically buy a PSP and Rockman Rockman. I was just saying that level-headed gamers who own both systems might by more inclined to pick up a nice release while they're at the store anyway trying to get a DSL. I mean most people don't want to leave stores empty-handed when they go in hoping to buy something.

Most people never made it in to the stores! ;)

And if they can't leave a store without buying something, then the chances of them being a level headed gamer is pretty slim! ;)

If anything, DS lite extends the shortages. :|

Good sales for the DS and PSP. PS2 is doing well in resisting the sub-20K mark, which is good.

I think Nintendo is waiting for the right time to raise GBA sales again. Nintendo will probably introduce GBASP+ in the summer and drop the price of the micro at the same time as well. After Mother 3's release.

Yeah, the 450K DS Lites and 200K DS's for all of March won't be enough but at least it'll be more than what they sold in January and February combined.

BTW I didn't know this:
The latest titles include a Japanese dictionary along with interactive phrasebooks for holiday-makers travelling to Thailand, Korea, China, Germany and the United States. Originally scheduled for release at the end of March, they've now all been moved to the end of April.

Anyhoo, fantastic performance from the DS and on the eve of Lite no less. PS2 sales still blow my mind though, especially in lieu of the upcoming release schedule. Seriously, if Sony doesn't drive home backwards compatibility, there may be riots!

The only mistakes I see right away are the average weekly sales for the DS and PSP.

DS - 93,820
PSP - 47,694

But it looks like your average might be just for 2006.

DS - 56,421
PSP - 46,178

I think, seeing how the sales curve should have trended against the effects a shortage had on the DS sales, may show just how popular the Lite is going to be. Not only will it be in high demand from the 'new hardware' status, but also because it looks like a lot of those consumers who got caught up in the shortage have yet to score a DS. Now it's just up to Nintendo in supplying the demand.

*All combined

I was only going to do DS and PSP because I'm not completely sure about the other totals but they should be close enough if they're wrong.

EDIT: Although I do think the 400K Chibbi Brady expects in March is a little optimistic when considering it sold 233,548 (MC total) in the four weeks of February. 250-300K seems likely though.

I don't know Fuzzy, normally I'd agree with you, but if the DS can do 100k or more a week then all software will get a healthy boost. AC has defied expectations and I can see it selling upwards of 80k a week. Maybe the 400k was a bit much, but the software sales have been so crazy on the DS that you just can't tell anymore.

Yeah, It should come over here since it's Bandai and all Bandai anime games tend to come over. But it'll probably be dub only, so depends on if you like the dub. ^^;

One thing that's neat is it's not a re-telling of the anime or anything, but rather it's just a random side-arc that would take place somewhere in the middle of the series. The arc is divided into eps and since Suda's style really matches the style of the show it feels like you're just watching some cool set of eps that were never released. Gameplay is a little repetitive because the depth is around Killer 7 level (super stylish and fun but not extremely deep), but that's why you can run through whole levels without fighting anyone if you want :p Basically you just have as much fun as you want in the gameplay portions and then head to the next cutscene.

I really can't see Animal Crossing pushing those numbers for March. With releases like Children of Mana, Puzz Loop, Cooking Mama, and Pokemon Ranger (+ FFXII), I think it will settle somewhere near 250k. If anything, I think Brain Training 2 will get the bigger push due to its audience.

Thanks, sounds cool! Guess I have to live with the English dub. :p
But what is the gameplay like really, do you hold down a button to run like in Killer 7? Or is it more of a fully controlled hack 'n slash action-adventure like Onimusha etc? 'Cause that's what I imagined it would be when I first heard of it.

It's more of an action game where there is no environement. I mean you do run around "levels" but you can't control the camera and when you move you're just looking at the very useful mini-map with an arrow pointing to the next area.

Along the way enemies seem to pop of infinitely and you fight them using various combo strings that are attached to "records". You can hold 2 records at a time and buy them at the shop or get them as prizes. After a few combos you'll get to the point where a button on the combo-string indicator is outlined in red. Hitting an enemy with this attack allows you to go into an 'issen' type super speed mode where you rack up lots of points. If you get enough points the next enemy to pop up will by dizzy and hitting them activates a mini-game where if you can get 100 hits in you'll get warped to another dimension/mini-game (complete with music like the pre-boss disco music in Killer 7) here you try to kill 100 enemies (takes maybe 2 mins) without being hit 3 times. If you do it you get a good prize (records, weapons, items). There's also a qte type thing that pops up when your sword is about to hit their sword at the same time. Pressing the right button has you flipping around them and getting your hit in.

There's also 3 characters to play as. I'm guessing each has their own story path (same general story but you see their side so new cutscenes but probably same levels).

Here's some videos I captured of it:

I think it is time to stop count the Original Xbox. it's below 100 now, and the 360 will follow under 1000 very soon.

That's why for me Microsoft has absolutely NO chance to dominate the world in cumulative Hardware sales: Japan is not the first market in the world, but it is important, and Microsoft is trying to sell more PS3 without think that 15-20 millions PS3 will be sold in Japan alone. So 360 sales in USA & Europe must be > PS3 sales in USA, Europe & Japan.

For me it is simply impossible.
