Btw isn't MGS4 re-release is the highest selling re release in MGS series?

Nier still hanging in the top 10 is surprising but outside of the DQM/PW launch it's been a slow release month. Nier is definitely a better game than I thought it would be even if it's quite rough around the edges. It certainly deserves to do decently well.

For budget re-releases? yes. But both Substance and Subsistence sold more, and they were full price re-releases with extra content. MGS4's lack of such a release most likely increased the sales of the budget re-release.

The PSN games list top 10 must be tracking in terms of hundreds of sales at the very most. Knights in the Nightmare being there and Persona 3 Portable still being on the list is pretty telling. Really, really awful.

They wanted to go straight into making Rising and Peace Walker. Since they were already splitting their team in two, that probably took up all the extra resources needed to make a re-release version.

[360] Lost Planet 2 (Capcom) - 21,000 (60%)

I'm assuming this includes the 360 bundle? thus why the PS3/X-box ratio of sales is so out of whack from the norm?

For comparison first week
Lost Planet 360 Extreme 34,610 Dec, 21 2006
Lost Planet ps3 Extreme (22,945) Feb.21, 2008

Those numbers make the Xbox360 sales look respectable. Almost 2000 more 360 sales than DS Lite. :D

I would never have thought DSi LL would become the leading hardware iteration in a country preoccupied with miniaturisation - particularly when a regular DSi does the same thing in a smaller package. The Nintendo of today can do no wrong it would appear.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It is still selling only 15K a week - way to low for Nintendo ambitions.. thats why the 3DS is comin and needed.

And whether they'll cross streams before either of the above happens?

The question is, will the 3DS be the same size as the DSi, or the DSiXL?

Personally, I reckon Nintendo might release it in 2 sizes!

Yikes at those HW numbers, they're truly insignificant :lol

Some numbers seem high, wouldn't surprise if week total end up being really similar like last time.

But wow Konami doesn't want to bother with further shipments for WE2010 World Cup. 162k for the PS3 and 71k for PSP. WE usually has legs, and given a World Cup it should have even better ones...but do you really need to overship 1st day that much? You have like 2 months to restock if necessary.

~75k for LP2 sounds good when you take into account what LP1 sold but that's about it. Should hit 150k or so, guess Capcom won't be bothered by this if western sales are enough.

Bigger screens are appealing as you get older though (as Japan is). I want a DSi LL badly myself, since my middle aged eyes hated the DS Lite's screen, but loved its software library.

Thing is, I'm not sure IF Western sales will be enough this time around... Lost Planet 2 has been receiving very mehtastic to negative reviews.

On the hardware side, companies must be pretty desperate at this point. Isn't this the start of the slow season? And we're already seeing sub 20k numbers for Wii, next week might be the PS3's time...

Japan's videogame business is really in a spiral D:

This week's decline for both NSMBW and Wii only reinforces the obvious trend: since the game was launched, there have been only 4 weeks (2, 4, 11 and 16) where they have gone in an opposite direction (e.g. Wii hardware up, NSMBW software down).

[WII] Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo) - 2,004,262

SSBB(Wii) passes 2.00M after 2 years. SSB(N64) sold 1.97M and SSBM(GCN) sold 1.35M.
Thanks for all the MC data bttb!

Very impressive for Smash Bros. Wii to top 2 million. And the game has still been in the #30-50 range week after week all year (and has already added another 50k in the first 4 months of this year), even two years after release. This game may still have another quarter million in sales in it before its all done.

I haven't been following Lost Planet 2 very closely (I couldn't stand the first game), but I thought they tweaked the gameplay somewhat to give it greater appeal to the Japanese market?

If so, then I can't imagine that these sales would be worth the inevitable hit that the game will take in the west. We'll see how it plays out, but I don't expect LP2 to meet with the same excitement as LP1 in the west.

I wonder if they might consider dropping the price on it and making it a sort of Player's Choice title a few months after the 3DS hits. They could probably sell another million copies that way to new 3DS owners and make it the biggest selling game ever in Japan.

Actually, January and February are usually pretty strong. Things start getting ugly in April, I believe. Even March is still pretty strong.

Even right now where the market is starting to saturate in America, things are still pretty good =P could be a lot worse, like Japan :lol

I really wonder how SMG2 is going to perform.

Lets say that a dedicated 500k will buy the game no matter what. That is going to be my minimum on the game. Now, the maximum is the tricky part. Will NSMBwii users make the jump? This question is hard to answer because NSMBwii's userbase is so huge compared to SMG, that this scenario will probably add to the games sales. You also have the problem that with most sequel releases this gen, game sales have declined from the first is some form.

The real question is: How many people can Nintendo fool into buying SMG2 from the NSMBwii userbase? If they are successful in migrating over 5% then that is 150k of sales. Remember Nintendo did the same thing with the first using nostalgia and NSMB DS comparisons. The first week of sales I expect 250k, but legs will tell us if Nintendo was successful and if they are we may see another million seller on the Wii. For a million they need more than 15%....

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
