Media Create Sales: Week 06, 2011 (Feb 7 - Feb 13)

Can Super Street Fighter IV 3D really be expected to sell within 30% of what the PS3 version sold in 2010? (153,924)

Well, it's tough to say, but it's a visually impressive launch game, and one of the more recognizable names out at launch (behind Nintendogs and Layton). I think that should really bolster its sales.

Kenka said:
It can, definitely. The game itself is a showcase of the 3DS possibilties. Scale the exceptations down given the fact that it is a remake and what you get is a decent (if not good) seller. If people lack motivation in purchasing a 3DS, then high sales may be tough to reach (for all software invovled) but if 3DS pre-orders are any indication, the hardware is set to explode at launch, and thus, push the entire line-up as a whole.

I personally expect it to be number #4 at launch. #3 would be extremely positive.

What makes me worry though, would be an extremely favourable response to first-party software as opposed to third-party offerings. That would be the first sign that Nintendo didn't succeed in changing the public's perceptions. I fear that.
The only way for that to happen is if third parties keep offering good games, it ain't going to happen on launch or overnight.

True, but in their mind, launch window successes may very well be equal to further support. I just hope that Nintendo's main problem (aka the lack of interest of the hardcore for its plateforms) is now a past nightmare.

Since I usually don't play Sony exclusives, I'd like to purchase only one console this forthcoming gen. Having everything under one hat would be great.

The Wii and DS have proved a great deal, we'll see whether third parties have learned their lesson. I also want a "PS2" ecosystem, it makes it easier for everyone, consumers and developers alike.

If this is true Besides Persona 4, best numbers for an Atlus game since 2003(Nocturne), add in the 15k or so for x-box 360 and things look even better. What a nice stepping stone for persona 5

Also:

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/43142/Deathsmiles-nears-100000-sales

The Xbox 360 version of cult arcade shooter Deathsmiles is approaching 100,000 sales in Japan and the US.
Edit:
3rdly,

I'm seeing this all over Japanese blogs, but no explanation of why:

Can someone please explain to me why if I had invested 3000 dollars in Nihon Ichi a week ago, I would now have 13,000 dollars.

Making games that are made to sell in Japan does still work!

- 3DS stuff is released on the 26th, Saturday, so 2 days will be covered, the rest is usual 4 days
- Any title missing Media Create Top20 will be taken out of the predictions
- There will be 4 rankings: Best overall by units, best overall by percentages, best in 3DS stuff by units and best in 3DS stuff by percentages. Basically it means the usual pair of rankings and an extra pair for 3DS-only stuff (hard+soft) for its launch commemoration .
...
Your turn, arm-chair analysts :p
Sorry, prob obvious to most of you, but could someone explain to me why 14-20th is not being predicted? And how the data for 3DS comes out in under 2 hours... :/ ??

14-20th would have been predicted a week ago, but upon discussing it here we passed because there wasn't much to predict.
In 2 hours we get Top10 for the 14-20th week, and we just use it as a deadline so we don't disrupt actual sales numbers discussion with predictions.

We won't get numbers for what we're currently predicting until next Wednesday, so we don't predict until just before we get those numbers but before those titles are released (tomorrow in Japan) which is roughly a week before we get the numbers.

When I win I want it to be because I'm awesome, not because everybody else fucked up their numbers :p

But you realize if Ridge Racer does sell 500k, and he fucked it up with an extra 0, he would probably win because of that alone right? (lol)

I will personally stab every person that bought RR3D if that happens (it'll be easy, they'll have all fallen asleep due to the load times)

Catherine looking strong. Surprised to see Two Words II actually charting.

Two worlds was sold out all over the place, it's interesting we are seeing WRPGS( besides mass effect 2 for some reason) manage a pretty respctable 50k~ multi-platform total per release.

Also: just a pre-note to media create here, PSP still has fun shortages.

I'll take them this time, but you know [insert swiss clock precision speech here]...

Also, I'll correct Road errors where reasonable (which I've already done before, f.e one of the latest weeks I saw someone typed everything to the unit and still used k like 50,000k) but no those left blank (which I doubt are mistakes but Road betting on them missing top20 so they wouldn't count).

Too late now. =\ Thanks anyway.

Maybe K. Ichigo can overlook Ridge Racer and Winning Eleven (clearly a typo). =P

I won't argue about the ones I forgot, though.

Edit: I'm so aloof I didn't even see he already addressed it a couple of posts ago. Thanks. Derp me.

Catherine's first week sales put it at Atlus' 5th best-selling (modern) game of all time in Japan, 2nd best first week sales for an Atlus game in Japan (second only to Persona 4).
