Usually bundles aren't done when there are severe supply chain issues. Every ps5 is getting sold. So it's kind of scummy for Sony to make forced bundles. Mario kart was bundled years after the switch was readily available. Probably the same was true for forza which some mentioned.
If there were ps5s sitting on shelves it would be a different story. I wonder why Sony picked hzd2 as their first bundle though.

Except when Elden Ring was killing it on all platforms and despite having more sales on PS than any other platform, it was #2 on the PS list, second only to Horizon Forbidden West.

Why does any hardware manufacturer create any bundle? It's marketing 101. You package your best games with the hardware.
If they wanted to force people to buy a game they'd never buy, they'd package a game that didn't sell like Destruction All-Stars or even a third-party exclusive like Babylon's Fall.

I don't remember bundles being a problem before as most my consoles were bought as a bundle.

Yeah...new consoles with barely any stock have their game sales front-loaded...and every time they get more stock those games go up. Ratchet and Gran Turismo 7 aren't part of any pack as well and one of them is back inside the top 10...they don't mention that for some reason...it's not part of their narrative.

They soft bundled before where they basically forced people to buy a bundle with a disk version of horizon and GT. Both great games so I don't see the problem to deter scalpers.
I think the big difference was, wasn't the Mario kart bundle an optional bundle for those that wanted it? You could still buy a switch without Mario kart if you wanted.
That is not the case here but it shouldn't really matter. Its sonys biggest action game for the first half of 2022, so i dont blame them.

I don't think anybody is suggesting bundles don't increase sales. Implying the games would not sell without the bundles is tiresome.
Nobody knows for sure how much the bundles artificially increase the sales so there often just drive by low effort posts. Ps5 stock has been hard to come by until recently and we have seen other exclusives like miles Morales and ratchet have sales bumps despite barely any bundles

I think if there were PS5s sitting on shelves and folks had the option with the game or without it would be a different story. Or if the game was included for free.
