I hope Before Midnight gets some love (Screenplay+Best picture). The Male Supporting Actor category should be interesting too, I hope Fassbender gets a nom for 12 years.

They certainly airbrushed Ellen to high heaven in that photo....

And I'm pulling for Gravity to win quite a few awards.

I really do hope Leo finally gets it. He's been in some of the best movies in the past 12 years or so. He should have at least 2-3 Oscars by now. Scorsese should also get one, though I doubt that. 2 hours to go until the announcements! So exciting!

Gotta say, it has been a damn good year for film. I just hope some of my personal favs (Fruitvale/Short term 12/Spectacular Now) get a bit of love, though they'll prob be overlooked.

Leo won't be nominated. Because it's a thing apparently.

Haven't seen it yet but American Hustle has a crazy good cast and a lot of Oscar buzz for Amy Adams, Bale and best picture.

It will go to that 12 year slave guy. I wonder if Oprha has pulled some celeb clout and will take the Oscar for best actress. It would be hillarious.

From what I hear, Oprah did a great job in The Butler. It just came to VOD so I haven't seen it yet. she was a good actress in the 80s...maybe she got better with age...LOL.

Is that a promo still for the next Insidious or Paranormal Activity horror turd?

Ellen looks so horrid in this picture. And I think her hosting will be as horrid as her own talk show.

About who takes home the golden dildo: I want Leonardo to get a proper nod for Wolf. I also wish Out of the Furnace gets some manner of mention. But I doubt it will even get listed in the categories. American Hustle will probably get something, but I don't believe they deserve it. Adams was good, the rest was mediocre.

I will be disappointed if Gravity wins more than 1 award. Good movie, but there were many more deserving movies.

I agree. It was good and there are so many great movies this year. American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club, Wolf of Wall Streeet, 12 Years a Slave, Capt Phillips, Mr Banks....such a great year for film!

give 12 Years a Slave and Her all the awards.

best actor in order
chiwetel
joaquin
mcconaughey
leo

leo did really good this year but his competition is too good.

Joaquin Phoenix is definitely overdue for an Oscar. He should have won for Walk the Line.

Interesting. I haven't seen as many movies this year as I have in years past, but I feel like there isn't anything that stands out to me as "wow, this was a good year!", other than my high level of joy whilst watching The Hobbit.

Whats the chances for The Wind Rises getting a nom? I'm sure Frozen will win however! I'm happy either way but with this being Miyazaki's last...

Chiwetel is a lock for a best actor nom but I also hope Michael Fassbender gets a nom for best supporting actor. he's fucking terrifying the way Ralph Fiennes was in Schindler.
I personally dont care for Oscars being awarded on the basis of them being "long overdue", it cheapens the merit of the award and we've already had that happen too many times.

Honestly, 2013 was the best year for film in recent memory. The last few months in particular were spectacular.

Besides, any year which saw the release of Before Midnight was bound to be amazing by default.

American Hustle will be completely and utterly forgotten in a year or two. Count on it.

As long as Gravity doesn't win shit, I'll be content.

Alfonso Cuarón will win best director and Gravity might win best picture if 12 Years doesn't.

I hope Leo gets something for the scene in Wolf of Wall Street
when he's trying to go down the stairs and get to his car

Captain Phillips was also really good. It probably won't win anything though.

Funny story. I went for like 5 or 6 years believing he'd won it, for some reason, having not been able to watch the broadcast but reading about it. A headline must have misled me or something. But yeah PSH won it and I think well deserved, but I was disappointed when that dawned on me...

Conversely, on the topic, I thought Felicity Huffman pulled off the performance of a lifetime in Transamerica, and was unduly overlooked in favor of Witherspoon's June Cash.

As much as I like Gravity I don't think the movie itself is oscar worthy to be honest. I do believe Cuaron's oscar is long overdue, he's such a good director he deserves an Academy award for sure

I sincerely hope Frozen will get nominated for best screenplay, original score and best picture. Along with animated picture and best song, of course.
Hobbit will get a few nominations too, but probably not in best picture or screenplay, though.

I rarely care about the Oscars but I really want her to get some love. I didn't see much else last year but whatevs.

Lubezki and Cuaron will be getting their deserved statues.

Before Midnight will be robbed though it will not be as painfully unfair as it was for Before Sunrise.

Leo will be snubbed as always. Liked him in Wolf but I'm not sure if it is really the role he should be awarded for.

Would like to see Her getting some nominations (Joaquin should have won best actor last years by a mile)

I've already forgotten about it a week later. It doesn't even enter into my top10 of the past year.

Man they are going to struggle to put out ten best picture nominations this year. CNN speculating Iron Man 3 might even get one. Weak year for sure. I guess they don't need to fill out ten so we will see.

Really? They can easily get to 10 deserving films easily, without having to resort to ratings-bait nominations. This was a really damn good year for film.

Leo ain't gonna win shit, and Wolf of Wall Street was way too fucking long.

Probably one of the funniest movies of the year, though.

Minus American Hustle, this is one of the few years where i'm happy to see any of the "contenders" win the best picture award (Her, 12 Years, Gravity, Wolf of Wallstreet)

..but knowing how often the academy gets it wrong, this means American Hustle will win.

:lol it was a great year

Oh crap, so they're forced to put out ten? Ugh...

It'll definitely be eight I think.

12YAS, Gravity, Hustle, Phillips, Wall Street, Her and Nebraska are locks. I think inside Llewyn Davis will get enough first choice votes but come nowhere near to winning it. And then Dallas Buyers Club and one of philomena and Saving Mr banks definitely have a chance. Maybe the Butler too!

Pretty much.
It was a finely crafted film with a lot of great performances, but there is just nothing going on there. It felt bland and lifeless. The nomination is a sure-fire thing, but I will be super disappointed if it wins best picture.

I just counted off like a dozen easy contenders in my head without coming close to touching Iron Man 3.

When fx porn like Gravity is one of the two year's best pic front runner you know it's a ban year.

As for the nominations you have 12 years, Wolf, Gravity, Dallas Buyer's Club, American Hustle, Captain Phillips. Then what? Her? Nebraska? Um that's stretching it to 8. Saving Mr Banks? Okay, whatever. The Butler? Good Lord. Llewyn Davis? That was pretty small time. Iron Man 3 doesn't seem like such a stretch anymore. Last year we saw only 9 nominations and I think we will see the same.
