as someone interested in the ps5 version of re3/re2, does the non RT 60 fps mode at least look as good max settings on pc (without RT of course).
how much better do these games look with RT anyways?

Interesting seeing how x and ps5 are quite a lot faster than his 2070oc 2700x setup. Should be similar performance. There are probably other settings.
Anyway- looks like rt performance sucks and it’s barely worth it
Ryzen 7 2700X is just Zen 1.x on a 12 nm process node.

2070oc's clock speed is lower than my old ASUS RTX 2080 (DUAL-RTX2080-O8G). My old RTX 2080 is usually above 1900 Mhz.

I replaced my RTX 2080 with RTX 3080 Ti (MSI GX Trio), hence I couldn't test the updated game with a TU104-based GPU.

In terms of same-era hardware, a PC with Ryzen 7 3700X (8 cores Zen 2, PCIe 4.0 IO) and RTX 3060 / RX 6700 XT would be a better choice.

I wouldn't worry about it. Even native 4K maxed out with RT it still looks like a turd: muddy textures, messed up lighting, fov etc.

i have the ps5 a touch under the 6700xt in pure rasterization and the series x a touch above the 6700xt of course the 6700xt can perform better though cause it has the option of zen 3 cpus unlike console

PS5 uses interlacing reconstruction and a heavier TAA solution than PC due to that fact. It's apparent in the hair, in the reflections. Especially in motion where you see the stippled look of it.

PS5 also uses medium/low shadow settings, you can very clearly see the banding which looks exactly as it does on my PC in the medium/low setting.

His comparison to PC is flawed. 🤷
Interlace isn’t in use low res buffers are

I'm aware of that. I was referring to the fact that it's called interlacing mode on PC.

The point was that the PS5 version IS using reconstruction, and it utilizes a more heavier TAA solution which slightly blurs the image a bit more than it does on PC.. but does a good job at masking the reconstruction.

It’s not using reconstruction which is my point low res buffers means some parts of the image are rendered at a lower res like graphical settings or foliage but the screen resolution itself is native res I guess the closet thing is temporal vrs

'Rendering to lower res buffers' is literally how reconstruction works. Unless you have inside information then I don't think you can make this kind of statement.

Either way, it's fairly trivial to check how the interlacing/reconstruction works on PC. Here's a frame capture showing that it renders to a 1920x2160 buffer.

thats my point im sorry if that wasnt coveyed well village we know uses reconstruction

so what makes you think that RE3 does not use reconstruction, running on the same engine and being pretty demanding in many scenes (to the point where performance is noticeably worse than RE8 in many scenes)

why on earth would RE3 be the exception? why would almost every game running with RE engine use CBR, but not RE2 and 3, even tho performance is pretty bad as is with RT on...

and how come there are some pretty obvious sawtooth artifacts if you look closely?

isn't all of that a bit weird?... it's like you go up to an oven and smell salami, cheese, tomato sauce and baking dough, but refuse to consider that there's pizza in the oven.

edit: here a Series X example from VG Tech's pixelcount images. this is right after a camera cut, the first frame, basically showing the raw image without/with minimal AA and reconstruction

edit2: same images, but now PS5

this is clearly using CBR. sawtooth edges on geometry right after a camera cut. it can't be more obvious

the problem is like nx gamer said people are conflating cbr with other techniques as the same thing and its obscuring the facts. i said these upgrade patches dont use checkerboarding or reconstruction that doesnt mean everything is rendered at full res though for example maybe the motion blur, particle effects, foliage etc is rendered at a lower resolution it looks like capcom switched their techniques used here. i cant speak with 100% certainty on exactly what it is (im not the devs or a know it all) but i can bet 1000 bucks its not checkerboarding or reconstruction of any kind. if you want my opinion i think its a mix between the taa, chromatic aberration, and film grain not mixing and jiving well leaving obstruction on fine detail cause of the lower res buffers leaving artifacts but this is just a theory.

so that's how you explain these artifacts that look very much like CBR? what a coincidence that a game running on an engine with a very strong CBR past has artifacts that are very much looking like CBR artifacts?

look at these 200% zooms and tell me you don't see sawtooth edges and double width pixels... some of the stuff above could be maybe RT side effects, but here is no RT

Im near 100% sure P playsaves3 is an ethomaz ethomaz alt account.
He comes with hard statements with literally no evidence not even anecdotal evidence but somehow we are just supposed to stomach.
The games have CBR artifacts, we can see them....but no its not.

Capcom calls their reconstruction technique Interlace on PC, oh but its not reconstruction its low res buffers being built up to a larger resolution.......so pretty much reconstruction by any other name.

You ever considered those again could be lower graphical settings maybe lower res motion blur? I genuinely might be blind but that doesn’t look like what re village or the games on last Gen did

I see the ethomaz guy you linked was a PlayStation fanboy so I’m not even seeing how you can think I’m an alt of him he also is better at using the structure of neogaf than me since it seems he was a veteran user there. About your statement those don’t look like reconstruction artifacts or checkerboard it looks like lower quality effects so we are just gonna have to disagree and no low res buffers are not reconstruction no one for example calls vrs or upscaling reconstruction. Low res buffers in my view is more of a temporal (motion based) vrs solution so they don’t have to resort to reconstructing the entire image like what your statement implies. I believe the only thing that could possibly be reconstructed in any way is some of the graphical settings but absolutely not the screen res. I also don’t know why you guys are treating like an idiot (not saying I’m not one by the way) when i was agreeing with one of the top tech reps we report on im not pulling my statement out of my ass like your implying I’m offering a potential explanation to explain the image that isn’t checkerboard/reconstruction.

:) what if I told you that that last image was from the Xbox One X version, and I tricked you to see how you'd assess the artifacts in the clearly checkerboarded last gen version

troll dancing GIF

I made sure to use an image from before the 1.0.0.5 patch that reduced the resolution, to get a 4K CBR image to match the resolution of current gen.

that scene is how VG Tech determined, in both the last gen and current gen version, that the game uses CBR, due to how extremely obvious the artifacts are on many elements.

so yeah, if you doubt the current gen version is CBR, you also now have to doubt that the One X uses CBR... and the PS4 Pro... because it looks the same as this just a bit lower res

im keeping it a buck with you i didnt look at your images cause i dont need to im only relaying my hypothesis from the videos. also partially because im not on a 4k monitor so i can only see cb artifacts through high quality video. i wont lie though that was actually a good way to dupe someone you should be a blind tester

This is getting embarrassing.
Just leave it alone man.

let's assume this isn't a way to save face,
you should look at them the artifacts are basically identical and even in the same spots in both last gen and current gen ;)

does neogaf mark if you opened up a picture to view or something like that like reddit? if so you can verify im not fibbing

nope... you can't check that.
still, the artifacts look basically the same and are found on the same objects in the image, hence VG Tech determining that the same/a very similar type of reconstruction is used, aka. CBR

Im looking at the current Gen footage and it looks more “blurry” and rigid than artifacty Like the images from last Gen you linked above. I would almost believe the game is rendering at a native resolution lower than 4k on current Gen before I believe reconstruction I’m that confident in my assessment

Wait are you using low bitrate compressed videos to check for CB artifacts?

Dont you have the games to just load them up and take a screenshot right after a scene change.

I don’t own a ps5 only my friend does so I have to wait till I’m with him to see the footage and take screens but i got a similar impression right away from playing it on a 4k tv and monitor. I won’t lie the performance profile we have would also fit if it’s native more

Wait why are you dying on this hill then?
You dont have a nextgen console, you dont have a PC, you dont own the games on any platform.
Seems like an odd thing to put this much effort into.

I own re2 and re3 (dont own re7 but will get it in the future) and I bring it to my friends house whenever I wanna play I go there almost everyday I usually play a game there on his 4k monitor while watching a DF/Nx gamer vid on his 4k tv on the side to see if their analysis matches the real world (and before you ask I do plan on getting a ps5 I’m just waiting for the option to buy it in a non white color and also for the themed plates to be released outside of the ps store)

the One X got patched to run at 1620p with CBR.
you need to have high quality screenshots from the pre-patch One X version to compare it 1 to 1.

also, I think the guys at VG tech are a bit more experience than you sitting there just assuming the 1 and only person claiming it's native 4K is correct, while everyone else says it uses CBR

I’m aware of the one x situation I make sure to keep track of all the stats I actually for fun looked up a benchmark of the series x running the unpatched one x version

Reciepts always always always get the job done faster than "just trust me" I have benchmarks I just cant show them to you.
I have lossless captures I just cant show them to you.
