For those of you lucky enough to work at a company that offers full feature copies for dirt cheap (HUP home use program), do it. Ask your IT dept if t]your company gets access I dont know if they still do but I got a copy of MS Office 2019 Professional for less than $20. And I did it before for an older version of Office for like $15 ten years ago. Googling it, it seems sites offer downloads straight up for the same heavy discount. But I dont know how legit those sites are though.

As for paying for an OS sub plan, forget it. Just milk W11 with free updates. At some point they'll kill off W11 ten years from now, but cross the bridge then what to do.

I never paid full price for Office 365 or any Windows version. Office is free and Windows, i can use the enterprise license or the education which has more features then Pro. Every employee at work can use their 365 Account at home and install it on 5 additional devices. You only need to logout afterwards, and login with your private Outlook account, otherwise you might see work related stuff on your private devices.

The Adobe creative Cloud also cost just 19 euros a year for me for the full suite.

Good for locking in businesses to the Office ecosystem. If they bundle Windows with their enterprise subscription, it keeps those users locked to their enterprise sub. For any companies that don't use the Office stuff, they will see that they are already paying for a Windows subscription, and the Office sub is only a slight bit more, and will likely switch to Office.

All these companies do is push ridiculous ideas into the forefront, claim that it will never actually happen, then implement it 2 or so new systems down the line. It's just some predictive programming marketing strategy for Windows 13 or 14. They're just using social media as a test platform to find out what is and is not currently acceptable so they can create strategies to implement them into future iterations without causing too much of a fuss. By the time they get around to milking you for more cash you'll just be happy that it wasn't as bad as predicted. That's all this corporate controlled nightmare world is anymore... Push an idea that no one likes into the public sphere through social media, soften the blow by slightly rolling back on it so that it is tolerable, release shitty new version, rinse and repeat until Windows 19 rolls around and you're more than happy to pay 5 dollars a month to unlock ctrl+alt+del "mode" because at least they aren't requiring a subscription for you to open your g-mail account like was "predicted" on all your favorite social media sites.

Or just use Linux and leave Windows to the retards who only use a computer to watch porn, read e-mails & stalk their old classmates on Facebook so they can compare their current status.

A lot of the people I know who make music still use their trusty old Amigas as midi sequencers and I've switched to a hardware sequencer made in 1996. Constant updates, apps breaking, etc. etc. is pushing the world of music making back into ancient hardware just so we can make music without all the headaches that come with operating systems designed around the needs of children who grew up using smartphones and developers constantly trying to re-invent the wheel.

Those Amigas have solid timing for sequencing midi. It's incredible what can be done when you don't have 10,000 services running that constantly spy on you so they can target you with advertisements.

No, you can sideload applications on iPhones, and iPads. It’s not common as just about everything you could want is on the appstore but it is possible, and no jailbreaking is at all required for it.

If you want to talk bad UI, windows 10 pissed me off almost immediately by having two sets of settings. I have no experience on 11 yet, so I can't comment there.

I have no problem with the default ubuntu. Felt a lot like mac OS. But for people who want a more pc like experience, there's probably a build for it

I recently switched to Linux (Kubuntu, to get my feet wet), and I don't think I will ever go back. Sure some games don't work - but there are work arounds for that. I don't have asinine google searches when I try to find a document in my files, I don't have to deal with bloatware, I have all the features I need and can easily update/upgrade with minimal effort.

The only frustrating thing was learning the various distros and getting it installed. After that it has been smooth sailing.

Most Linux users just rice their own systems. From the visuals to the functionality, tiling window systems, or whatever it is the user wants. Distros like ElementaryOS provide good stuff out of the box for an average user. MacOS is still the king when it comes to out of the box UI. It's unfortunate that Windows keeps wanting to lock down its users because there's so much good and useful software available for it, especially a lot of old 32-bit music plugins that aren't available on any other OS. I was using Windows 10 not too long ago and, after using a third party app to easily uninstall all of its unwanted services that bloat it up, it was a nice experience for the most part.

It's unfortunate to see just how much people have given up as far as internet and software freedom goes just because Office and AAA games are only on one system. Everything has become so centralized and controlled. We used to run our own gaming servers, our own voice chat servers, etc, and it was nice although less convenient. Now everything happens through software like Discord which is nothing but a giant collection database for world governments to both collect information and to disseminate its own information, for better or worse. AI systems designed to sniff out potential wrongthink are quickly being embedded into the framework of everything, so on and so on. I'm going way too off-topic here so I'm going to stop now, lol.
