Resident Evil 1 Remake in development

I'm all for this. Having the entire back catalogue of RE games getting full remakes is freaking amazing. Its not like they aren't still releasing mainline games either. I wish more devs would show this kind of respect to their older gems.

Remake is a 10/10, why remake it?

Because I've been through both the original and the remake a billion times and I will happily buy a fresh new remake because it's one of my favourite games of all time. There is simply no gaming location as iconic, memorable or atmospheric as the Spencer Mansion.

Considering how many RE sequels and spinoffs continue to reference/repackage the first game, why not just go ahead and remake it with new content and surprises? It's been long enough at this point.

I'm all in for this also! I think they need to expand it once again by introducing new types of zombies or other creatures, more difficult puzzles and different map layout. The ideal for me would be to have all those same feelings when I first played the original: Where do I need to go? What do I need to do?

Instead of remakes, imagine if Capcom released a new RE every 2 years like they used to do in the past.

Wasted potential.

they need to create FOMO on the players, 5Mi copies in a week its a lot of copies, the next game may take even longer.

I think Resident Evil 1 might feel quite slight now by todays standards, and it would be a good candidate to add in some extra game modes to aid longevity.

I've always enjoyed zombie hordes in games like Days Gone, Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead, and although Resident Evil has dabbled with Mercenaries it's still only a dozen or so zombs at one time. It would be pretty cool to have a proper horde mode in a Resi game.

At least we'll eventually be on that path once all the mainline remakes are out. I doubt they'll remake spinoff games and don't even think they'll remake RE6 either.

Please be real and give us Code Veronica too
excited american horror story GIF

The HD Remaster of the GameCube Remake is still beautiful and it holds up today

You can change the control scheme to not be tank controls

The HD Remaster is all you need to play in regards to if you want to play the first game. There really is no point to remake it again when the GameCube Remake already looks fantastic and plays great. Really doesn't need updating at all

Same with Resident Evil 0 but I admit that game does have issues in it's gameplay design

This is pointless at all to remake the first game again

If anything remake Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 5

I hate this industry so much.
And gamers deserve the state it's in.

What I find interesting is how many remakes and remasters we are getting nowadays in comparision to new games. I have been getting tired of remakes in general too

Hot take but I hate the fixed camera angle, so I hope it's in third person. Probably slower paced like RE2 remake.

Hopefully they'll stop after RE1 Remake. They could remake some of their other IPs....
They better remake RE5. They can stop after that.

Hating the fixed camera isn't a hot take in 2026. That design is ancient and clunky. People acting like the word "remake" means it doesn't need another one are delusional. It's a 25 year old remake of a 1996 game. Modern horror has evolved way past this tank control and static angle garbage years ago.

I'd love if it included RE0 as well into the remake. So you pick Jill chris or Rebecca, and Rebecca is all of RE0 redone.

Would make it a big game with a lot of meat to it, and would fix all of RE0 issues in one fell swoop too.

I can't wait to see the OG with the RE engine and over the shoulder. I want it more than anything. I'd imagine it's going to get even more love that the other games as it's what started it all. Really can't wait to see what they do.

After resident 1 remake I'd like to see resident evil 2 remake done again.

I'm actually not kidding! I love graphic updates and by 2030 I imagine technology like dlss 10 and path tracing, mega lights and whatever nonsense is dreamt up will be interesting enough to make re-remake will be enough for me to give capcom my money.

Same goes with resident evil 3 in 2031

I want constant remakes, pretty much every 10 to 15 years of every game I like.

This is their final chance to make RE1 not only way bigger but also connect the Rebecca, Barry, Jill, and Chris path to fit the story better and with a true ending with all four of them on the chopper having a foursome.

I have been an RE fanboy since 1996, and have generally loved the remakes. I think it might be because I have got to the age where I simply just accept this is what is happening, don't think too much about it, and go in expecting a good time.

I used to be one of the fans that would get very pissy at RE4 (og) about removing zombies or some such, literally on some RE forum crying about how much it sucked, hit post and then turn around to continue my 193th playthrough of the fucking thing. Because I loved it and it fucking ruled.

Like I say, been with the series for 30 years, seen the highs, the lows, watched the fanbase tear itself apart for myriad reasons, lmao. Its only because they're passionate, right?

I love still seeing people argue about RE shit online, it warms my heart in a way. 30 years in and we're still doing this. May it never end.

Bring on the remake of the first game, sure. It is an important game that isn't represented in this modern era. That is great for younger fans if they don't want to go back to the older games. Yes, yes, I know they SHOULD because they're awesome, but some people just wont, and we have to accept that.

Long live Resident Evil!

Im excited to see Rebecca chambers again.
Won't we see her even earlier with the Zero Remake?
Anyway, as usual I'm down for more Remakes of RE. With this one they could expand the Spencer mansion even further.

Man, the only thing the modern RE now lack is a plot that is worth caring about. Come on Capcom, do it!
