Rumor: Resident Evil 9 to be titled "Apocal.Xpse" has been in development for 2 years, would feature Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine

By not obsessing over graphics?

Hmmmm, nah. More like, by employing 3200 people across dozens of different teams. Massive international corporations in business for over 40 years tend to put out products quickly.

Anyway... back on topic, this title is shit as far as I'm concerned, and the art looks like a mediocre photoshop shoehorning itself into the style of the title for the last entry (or last couple entries maybe?) Smells like someone looking for attention to me, guess we'll find out eventually.

How do these developers dish out so many games at such a short period of time when other developers in the west are struggling to make one game/5 years????
What I see Capcom doing here with RE:

3 Teams: A Team, B Team, and C Team

Let's say A team is working on RE 7, B Team is working on RE 2 Remake, and C Team is working on RE 3 Remake.

All 3 RE games are 8-12 hours in length and can be speedrunned, so they're not a typical western AAA experience where they are trying to meet a quota and pad out 40 hours of content. A team announced RE 7 since 2016 and released RE 7 2017. They were probably working on it since 2013/2014. B team would start work on RE 2 Remake around 2014/2015. The public doesn't hear about RE 2 Remake until after RE 7 comes out. Let's say C team begins work on RE 3 Remake in 2015/2016. By the time RE 2 Remake is out in 2021, the RE 7 guys are already working on RE 8 since 2017, and Remake 3 team's game is coming out in 2020. RE 2 guys(B Team) have been working hard on RE 4 while those two games are currently being focused on. That means there's something else that's not RE 9, already in the works, that might release around late 2021, or 2022...and while this is happening, the RE 4 team has already started their new project(even if you assume that part of their team is working on RE 4 DLC for Ada).

You just have the 3 teams playing leap frog over and over, including possibly having a team help the other from time to time, and you get a decently steady stream of content. You just have to make sure that the synergy between the 3 teams is tight enough so that the quality doesn't dip too badly between games. It's why I think somewhere between 8-20 hours is the perfect length for a video game. It doesn't put too much pressure on devs to release massive amounts of content within a short time, gamers can be happy that they're playing a refined experience and not playing a bloated game, and quotas can be met reasonably so that the publisher is happy. It's usually the perfect trifecta.

If I had to guess, I'd also say Insomniac is following this system too.

Why if you want a title with an 'IX' in the word would you choose Apocalypse which has neither of those letters at all.

In my opinion I also think they good looking games but remember how GAF was crying about how RE4R doesn’t look “next gen”.
I dont remember, but i didn't visit RE4 complaints threads for the most part lol.
When i played it i think it looked pretty good. For me thats more than enough.

Voice Acting and language packs take a lot of game size and time to do so that could be 1 reason, the other is probably as someone else pointed out that its ABC teams, maybe they are just better organized, one other reason could be that their work culture is more strict and they tend to crunch more? whereas many western devs will quickly DM Jason and other journalists and the company will receive a lot of shit for it.
It could be talent issue too, we dont know for sure, but all i know is that its impressive how Capcom and Fromsoft put many quality games in a short span of time while other western devs struggle to put a good quality product even once in a 5 years.
I can excuse European devs like KCD developer or indie developers but not big ones. Though i have to say not all, there is outlier in both sides.

For some reason I believe this rumour. The last we heard about a leak for Resident Evil, it wad RE Village. The European setting, Ethan being the protagonist again and the Werewolves were very wild claims but it was ALL true. Also, the ending of Resident Evil Village left a massive question for a possible sequel/follow up (not with the DLC tho).

The first time I've seen this guy was yesterday, when he was piggybacking that David Jaffe Bloodborne rumour that turned out to not be a rumour at all. I think I'll wait for Capcom or other people to spill the beans on RE.

Considering the ending of the last game he appeared in, I think your boy be dead

Whoa, hold up, you think the bad ending is the canon one for Revelations 2? I highly recommend you look into the good ending for Revelations 2, Barry (and Claire) are pretty badass in the final battle (which if you get the bad ending, you never see the final boss fight).

But yeah, Barry should be alive and well.

It was clever when they integrated roman numerals into "EVII" for RE7. Village also built on this to good effect.

However, this is giving me Fant4stic vibes. And that ain't good.

Don't yall remember the Capcom leak from like 2019 or 2020? This game was on the list of leaked games that Capcom was working on, and the leak even had the title of the game on it.
Resident Evil Apocalypse was a codename, in the same way that the DLC/Gold Edition of Village was codenamed there Resident Evil Outrage.

Obviously there will be a Resident Evil 9, but this is fake shit of just some fan who saw the leak and tried to like that Apocalypse codename to RE9.

In the same way that when the leaker mistranslated RE Outrage as RE Outbreak some other people thought that Capcom was going to release a game with this name and even included it in the Nvidia GeForceNow list.

It was also a 2004 movie which makes me think that it's unlikely to share the same name. Could be wrong though.

After what they did in 7 and Village, I've absolute 0 trust in Capcom with this one even if completely unlikable Winters idiots (and everything related to them) are not in the game. So, until people (not media) I trust will tell me that it's actually great RE game worth buying and playing... I honestly could not care less about 9.

Village was dogshit. One of the worst RE games so far. I don’t want anything even remotely close to Village in terms of gameplay, writing, boss fights, enemy design, puzzles, and combat. Game was dreadful 😂

RE2 Remake level production and atmosphere would be my preference, but I’d also take more of what made RE4 Remake so enjoyable.. namely the combat. I don’t think you can have both though, as I think RE2 Remakes combat added to the stress/fear factor. Take the core of RE2 Remake, add the dodge from RE3 Remake, and maybe the enemy density and weapon physics from RE4 Remake. Maybe it would work, but I don’t know how they lean into the sense of isolation and the foreboding atmosphere from RE1/2 if they massively overhaul the combat.

It needs to have tight design and writing though. RE7 did that amazingly well, whereas Village was like some amateur B-team nonsense.

Zombies, Lickers and Ganados >>>>>>> Molded >>>>>>> Werewolves and other shit from Village. Just make sure I can reliably pop heads, even if not all weapons will do it.

Chris as a lead? No thanks. Claire, Jill, Leon, or Rebecca would all be better. Fuck it, just give me Hunk as a main character 😂

RE7 was so good that I’d go for another FPS game, I just don’t want it to be anything like Village. I think most people would rather it was third person though.

Capcom are so inconsistent that it could go either way. It could be amazing like RE HD Remaster, RE2/RE2R, RE3, RE4/RE4R, and RE7, or it could be awful like RE5, RE6, Revelations, and Village. Of it could be mid-tier like RE0, RE3R, and Revelations 2.

If they go with that title I may not buy it just out of spite. Fuck off Capcom. You’re stressing me out.
