Switch lite or normal switch

JokerMM

Gay porn is where it's at.
I only really getting a switch for portability i have no interset in docked switch, there is also a 100 price difference, but i also heard the joycon drift shit and how you're fucked if it happens on switch lite

So, whats the best option

The Lite is a lot better as a handheld. If that'll be your use case I'd say save the $100. I can't speak to the frequency of joycon drift, but at this point they almost have to have fixed it.

Switch Pro. Seriously, when the fuck it will be announced already ffs.
As much as that is the answer for a lot of us, that's completely useless to the OP.

OP, if your joycons drifted and you had to send it off for repair then you would either have to go without or buy new joycons with the OG. So you're not down $100, you're down ~$170. Save yourself the money if you're going strictly handheld.

sounds like a Lite would be better for you but yup if the joycon starts drifting you need to send in the entire console.

also for whatever it's worth i've owned 4 switch consoles and played on my friends Lite. none of them had drift. i returned 2 because they were faulty and sold 2.

Switch 1 - had between march/may 2017. joy cons were disconnecting, lagging, and sometimes not responding at all. at first i had nintendo fix the disconnecting but the joycons kept having issues (non drift) and i couldn't be arsed waiting 2 weeks for nintendo to fix it.
Switch 2 - had between oct/nov 2017. battery crapped out so returned it.
Switch 3 - had between april 2018 + august 2019. zero issues with it. sold it because i wanted the new 2019 model with improved battery.
Switch 4 - had between september 2019 + may 2020. zero issues with it. sold it because i had no more games to play.

my friend got his Lite when it launched and to this day has no issues with it.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Just eat the cost and get a normal. You can almost guarantee there'll be a game or two down the line where you think "damn, I could be playing this on my TV".

I'm not convinced the Lite has the same drift issue. I've heard very few cases of it with the Lite. There is always cases of drift with every analog controller.

Well, if portability is important to you than the Lite is probably the thing you want as that's its raison d'être.

More options with controllers on normal switch so I'd go with that. Plus it's nice having the option for a bigger screen with multiplayer.

the normal Switch is IMO the only way to go atm.
because the question is not "IF" you get joycon drift... it's "WHEN". and WHEN you get it your Switch lite is fucked.

yes portability is reduced for the normal Switch, but that system gives you options.
for one, the JoyCons are absolutely terrible controllers not just because of the drift issues, the sticks are basically unusable for Shooters and the normal Switch gives you options here.

Just buy whatever one and get this with it:

Then you can just use whatever controller you want with the Switch, no need to use the joycons, most support rumble and gyro wirelessly. You'll not get the HD rumble on other controllers ofc, but if you get a Lite you wouldn't get that anyway. If you get a Lite then you need an OTG USB adapter to let you connect the Magic-NS to the USB-C port one the bottom of the Switch. On Amazon UK there is a bundle that comes with one for a couple of quid more, not sure about other countries.

I got the 8bitdo one it's very useful, although I think the one you listed supports wired controllers too.

Probably not, unless it's somthing specific like labo or fitness related maybe.
You will be locked to 30fps on the new browsers fury though.

Regular Switch.
I mostly play handheld or table top, bigger screen and battery with the option to connect to a screen (multiplayer) is the way to go. Often just take the tablet and an SN30 Pro for on the go.

Got the Animal Crossing version, and what made me go for it is the longer battery. At night i love staying in my bed and not worry that i will need to charge it after like 4 hours. And plus, well, you can hook it up to the tv!

If you only want to use it in portable mode, go ahead. But I personally don't understand that at all. The best aspect of this console (if you get the real one) is that it can be used both ways. Some games are just better on a big TV, while others are great in bed on a portable screen.

How to play paper mario with lite? I only saw on twitch with the normal switch and the joycons attached with that plastic thing..
Becouse you have to move the joycons for the special moves...

Lite

The one time I hooked my OG switch up to the tv it looked like complete shit. Never would do it again.

The regular Switch.
Because you can replace the awful joycons with the Hori Split Pad Pro and have the best experience.
Also, playing on the TV is amazing!

I got a Lite last month and I'm enjoying it. The drift scares the fuck out of me but I'll enjoy it while it lasts until the 4K Switch reveals itself.

To me normal Switch is better because they are games that are better played on big screen with Pro controller like MHRise and Astral Chain and still have the option play other games on portable.

Also if I have issues with my Joy-cons I can replace them or get different kind for better comfort.

We have three Switches in the house. Two of the three have had drift issues including the one lite. I will not buy another Nintendo console until I know this has been resolved.
