Todays Republicans are nothing like 80's or 90's Republicans. A Reagan Republican couldnt get elected today.

Perhaps all the living former presidents could release a joint statement stating what they believe the office of the president represents, and how Trump is failing to meet those principles. It may act as a reminder of how far Republicans have drifted away from science, integrity, compromise, avoiding politicization, understanding that government can be a force for good, and respect for their colleagues on the other side of the aisle. It would probably be couched in different language to de-emphasize that it is Republicans dragging the country to the right, but the statement could still act as a moral waypoint for Republicans that are so used to being morally spun around.

OK, that works for places like North Dakota and Montana, but what happens with somewhere like Pennsylvania? You've got crazy levels of Republican support in the rural areas, but crazy levels of Democrat support in Philly and Pittsburgh. Do you just make them their own city-states? What about Ohio or Florida?

It's not a "Red state vs Blue state" problem. It's rural areas vs urban ones.

Yep. This is what I've been saying. If Trump can do all this stupid shit and STILL enjoy 80+ approval among Republicans and 30-something percent overall, that is a real problem.

And to be clear, I know there are many smarter, more reasonable conservatives that detest Trump, these were probably Kasich supporters. But these are probably smarter, more educated voters. Things that Trump/GOP's base is definitely not.

1. Abortion
2. Tax cuts for rich
3. Policy benefitting the industry you represent and for which you have bought members of congress

They are slaves to their ideology. Most GOP voters are entrenched in a media cult, from Limbaugh in the late 80s to FreeRepublic and Drudge in the late 90s, to Fox News.

There is no reason or rationality to any of it, it's simply a matter of being a victim of conservative entertainment news. They get their daily spin, and that's really as deep or as meaningful as it gets. Morals and/or ethics aren't applicable.
