[Tom Warren] Microsoft’s new Xbox chief starts making her mark

The situation with the platform has reached such a point that I'm completely uninterested in this kind of media hype. Let them make an announcement, and then we'll see. They talk a lot, but when it comes to announcements, I usually want to cry...

After my recent ban I decided not to partake into those conversations. Those threads are landmines.

Said the imbecile that parroted that Xbox Series S had the same processing power as PS5...

She is saying the right things but putting them into action is another thing all together.

I hope she gets Xbox back on track as completion between the brands is always a good thing

This all feels a bit cart before the horse without more titles that people actually want. The problem is, has been, and remains, the games.

a wider range of pricing models

Just what a subscription service needs. More confusion.

Streamline it, adjust pricing and bring back the rewards program to help those that use them offset costs. Don't bring back the "$1" loophole. That is where the real money was lost.
A $20 month customizable Ultra tier with Day 1 games minus COD. Have EA Play, Ubisoft+ Classics, FortNite Crew, GTA+ as $4.99 add-ons each. That would solve the issue.

Disingenuious to credit these changes to her as well. She isn't crafting some giant turn around by crunching numbers and getting her hands dirty with the value prop/finance teams.

These are changes that have been given to her to announce.

Does anyone actually believe this is what a CEO actually does?

They collect information from their networking pool in industry and compare the value of that information to the high level strategies the company has identified as core KPD drivers based on KPI or past performance. They will then say "here is what the rest of the industry is doing based on talking with XXX, what's my play book here based on the information and goals we have internally."

They then do a bunch of interviews.

Mrs. Sharma isn't making calls to save or kill XBOX but she will certainly be the target of the reactions....that is her job imo.

In spanish it is called "dar palos de ciego" that means she had no clue at all what to do or how to do it...

At this point she better just make a survey and let the userbase decide.

Based Asha making waves 🌊

But like someone said earlier, she was handed a sinking ship. It'll be a miracle if she can plug a few holes and get it floating again, let alone moving forward. Too much damage done with Mattrick to start and then abandoning exclusives.

Asha has soothed the savage Sony beast in me.

I, the Lion, have been made to lay down with the lamb. All is forgiven Xboxers. All is forgiven.

"Journalist" lol; isn't he the same idiot who posted on twitter something about series S hardware to be better compared the ps5 and when was caught in the fault made disappear such post? And people like this still has the brave to keep such arrogance? What a buffoon.

A lot of this was already worked on by Phil. We've known for ages they were trying to create an ad-supported tier that would be cheaper in price.

Can't even criticize Tom over the Sarah Bond hitpiece article. And I thought the purple place was supposed to be progressive? Oh and look who else showed up early in their thread:

The GM who sold the forum to corporate interests and didn't even bother telling their mods or admin. Or pay them, for that matter.

What great people 🤣

Man, I would get banned there so fast...

Brave response when he knows damn well the person he is responding to has a warning and will be banned if they offer a retort of any kind.

Gaming Journalists are paid a substantial amount to shill. If they have to chose between speaking the truth or getting money they will usually get the money.

Funny thing is: they are free to make fun of Jez in other topics.

Spew coffee reading a thread. So many warnings in 2 pages. A "professional journalists". LOL

Sharma's internal memo also touches on accountability for when things go wrong at Xbox. A limited number of Xbox controllers shipped without batteries starting in December, and once Microsoft discovered the issue, it offered up a free rechargeable battery to say sorry.

We need to fix Xbox! Here are some batteries! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Must be really slow news day over at The Verge for this pointless puff piece.

I'm glad OP gave and archive link but even that is too much of a waste of time to read.

Funny how he's also posting on a forum. Was he just suppose to exist with everyone being a nobody? That's some ego right there.

The bolded is precisely why Helix is in even bigger trouble than most industry 'experts' realize.

Xbox need as much hype as possible going into their $1,000+ hybrid machine. Deliberately leaked memo's, interviews humanizing Asha Sharma and Matt Booty, free polyester hoodies; all of this is to spin up interest in Helix. They know they're currently in a terrible market position, and they know that they'll be in an even worse market position with a $1K+ machine that's paired with a $30 a month service. So they're trying to throw the bat signal to as many shills as possible -- as early as possible -- to start shaping the narrative that Xbox is BACK and Helix will be worth every penny.

Now the problem isn't that the usual Xbox fluffers -- IGN, The Verge, Eurogamer, etc. -- aren't around. They'll shill until they turn blue. The problem is that all of these outlets have become ineffective at convincing the public to invest in Xbox, and the reason is because they forgot the #1 rule of shilling: it only works when the product is successful.

For example, it's easy for PC Gamer or a PC-focused outlet to hype up Gaben and claim that Valve have it all figured out or that they never get anything wrong. Valve are crushing it with Steam and they're (genuinely) in a position to throw multiple wrenches in multiple aspects of the console business. However, if PC Gamer/some other outlet were throwing nothing but praise to Andrew Wilson and claiming that the EA App is on the right track to disrupt the market, it would immediately fail the shill framework. It doesn't work when the product isn't working.

Xbox has failed so much that at this point, even an endorsement from like the Pope wouldn't work. Both the casual and core market have checked out, and what you're now left with are 'the usual suspects' desperately trying to convince the public that a decade+ of creative and business mistakes are officially over and everything will be different this time. I could be completely wrong, but all signs point to a future reality where Project Helix is the biggest failure in the history of Xbox hardware.

At least she has direction. The best decision she can do is bring back exclusive which made OG xbox and Xbox 360 competitive especially with MS has allot of great IP. Its not about brute force of power of hardware anymore, but more on games and optimization and technic.

ABK games aren't allowed to be exclusive until 2038. Bethesda wants its games from massive franchises to remain multi platform.

Multiplayer games should be multiplatform, especially for higher controller input based multiplayer pools. So Halo and Gears Multiplayer should be multiplatform. Even Sony understands that with Helldivers 2 and Marathon.

That leaves games from the rest of Xbox Games Studios and Xbox Global Publishing for 2nd party. Are those enough for people to switch consoles or buy Xbox as secondary console?

The rechargeable pack is bound to be lighter than 2 AA batteries just because of how energy dense Li ion batteries are. Saving on shipping weight and getting a PR win that's how you do it.

The "professional journalists" part of the warning reason made me laugh a bit. I just call them bloggers, but shill works too. At least we now know more about who actually believes these bullshit PR articles and therefore why MS keeps doing them.

All this PR bullshit about doing the right things and listening to fans is just a convenient ramp up to make you buy the new hardware coming next year. Even in the best case scenario it will be turned around mid-gen when the "milking the userbase" phase begins.

Nothing significant will actually change compared to this generation, no matter what they say.

Well. A new tier for GamePass where they earn less money isn't going to solve the 150K units sold games problem. You either get rid of it altogether or you keep bleeding money. And FFS she's not changing a thing. The corporation is course correcting. GP is Spencer's fault but you could see him dying inside in that Indiana for PS5 announcement at games awards. He was forced to release those four games, lie about being only four, release the rest, watch them crash and burn and then laid of. I have 0 sympathy for (the Devil) a CEO but this new narrative of "we're fixing Spencer's mess" is disgusting. Not Sharma's fault, but the suits that put her there for good PR.

Turns out the most progressive, anticapitalist place on the internet is run by a bunch of corporate shills.
