Twitch has new nudity rules, and they’re detailed

Twitch rolled out a highly specific revision to its nudity and attire policy for streamers on Tuesday, to hopefully accommodate contexts in which skimpier apparel is appropriate even if it goes against the letter of the previous, broader rules such as cosplay, body art discussions, or even streams from a swimming pool or beach.

The revision follows the Feb. 13 suspension (and Feb. 21 reinstatement) of body-painting streamer Forkgirl, and other enforcement of rules that streamers and viewers complained were inconsistently applied. Last fall, a Twitch crackdown on “sexually suggestive” content included sanctions for streamers wearing athletic apparel at a gym, or cosplaying fighting game characters.

The new policy specifies six “situational exceptions” where attire that otherwise violates Twitch’s standards is still acceptable. The new rules still prohibit full or partial nudity — specifically prohibiting exposed genitals or buttocks, and for women, the nipples. “We do not permit exposed underbust,” Twitch said, but “cleavage is unrestricted as long as these coverage requirements are met.”

The “situational exceptions” include swimming and streaming while at a beach, concert, or festival; body art; breastfeeding, embeds of Twitch-endorsed content; real-life streaming outdoors in public, and “context transitions” such as moving from a beach setting to outdoor IRL streaming.

“This list is not exhaustive,” the update states, “and we will update it periodically as the community’s needs evolve.”

In developing and sharing the new policy, Twitch found that the old one “relied on an assumed shared understanding of what is appropriate in specific contexts.” So the new, specific standard for coverage “reduces the policy’s reliance on an assumed single definition of contextually acceptable.

“This new standard better translates across global contexts and will help improve enforcement consistence,” Twitch wrote.

I think it’s because a lot of kids use twitch.

lots of kids use internet as well. If they want nudity, theyre going to find it.

My condolences to all the ladies out there who wanted to make a career out of streaming on Twitch but didn't want to debase themselves by showing more skin.

I'm genuinely surprised that more of these boob streamers don't just go straight over to the actual pornographic cam sites. Combining porn with game streaming would surely carve them big new audiences and I imagine the potential for revenue is a lot greater than on Twitch. Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about.

If there's anything women love more than profiting from exposing themselves, it's being able to claim they're innocent, I don't usually dress like this, thought I looked cute dunno might delete, post in the chat if you think I should show off my new labia tattoo, etc.

Women are intelligent and they know the act adds to the sex appeal.

Fair enough. I've never understood the appeal of strip clubs either. I guess I'm very much an "all or nothing" type of guy.

Not that I watch them, being serious, but I believe those streams are absolute potato quality and they don't have the infrastructure/resources to increase that. There's the whole issue of finding a mainstream company willing to give fair offers for such a provision without a problem-tax (it would be a PR nightmare) and considering the problems of payment providers in an adult space further complicates things, no Paypal for example. I'm already surprised Amazon sell sex toys and such that kids might fall upon.

LOL It would make sense up until you realize that teens watching gaming streams on PornHub isn't likely to fly with most parental figures and guardians.

Are there really that many underage kids who are paying money to boob streamers? Man... I'm out of touch.

This should be interesting. But I'm sure there will be many cam girls that somehow get through it without being banned. Always happens.

I guess because it's much easier to do on twitch as they dont actually have to do anything , just dress skimpy and giggle and jiggle every once in while and the donations will pour in . On an actual pornsite lol...their gonna be asked to stick a 13 in. dildo up their a$$ and suck it afterwards for the equivalent of $4.32 in coins .

I assume so. I have been under the impression that THOT's on Twitch are basically porn for teens who can't sit around the house watching actual porn. People have been complaining about the girls on Twitch basically stripping on camera for underage viewers for a few years now, so I just assume that that is basically Twitch in a nutshell.

How strange... I knew how to find porn on the Internet even back in the late 90s as a teenager. It's magnitudes easier to do so now, especially with smartphones.

I don't see how having boob streamers on the screen with mom in the room is going to be much less awkward...

Fucking prudes, I don't know but I find in many cases "sexy attire" more....what word to use....suggestive, than naked body, but that's probably just me. I am just reacting that this was enforced after some body painting.

This new wave of censorship comes from the states, kid.
You people have problems with bodies and sexuality.

When it comes to nudity, they definitely does not come from Yurop. Not sure how would those devotet Christians act, when you would have tits and ass uncovered in News Paper.

I don't think you're wrong. I just think that it's easier to get to Twitch on a teen's cell phone than it is to get to adult sites. Parents can lock a cell phone or tablet down pretty good without much technical knowledge and all it probably costs is an app store purchase if even that.

Not every parent is like this, but I bet there lots of parents paying $$$ to ensure that they're not handing their high school freshman what amounts to unrestricted access to infinite porn.

Well you're being a confrontational wanker against a whole nation (or continent) when we don't all share the same opinions about stuff.
