UK Boxed Charts: Week 15, 2024 (Apr 7 - Apr 13)

The latest UK Charts are in and it's probably safe to say there's not a whole lot going on at the moment. That said, as it nears its 7th birthday, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to prove its evergreen appeal as it climbs yet another spot to take the bronze medal.

As is the norm at this point, EA Sports FC 24 and Hogwarts Legacy have taken the number 1 and number 2 spot respectively. Whoever said renaming the FIFA franchise was a bad idea..?
Elsewhere, Princess Peach: Showtime! is still doing well at number 5, Super Mario Bros. Wonder remains firm at number 7, and Nintendo Switch Sports sees a huge bump in sales to jump from number 26 to number 10.

Here's your look at this week's top 40 in full, with platform breakdowns for all of the titles available on other consoles alongside the Switch:

I wonder how Rise of the Ronin is going to end up sales wise. This was definitely their biggest effort at making a more mainstream-friendly product.

Hogwarts Legacy is probably a pretty strong argument in support of porting Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2 to Switch.

GT7 has legs for days... a true rebound for the franchise.

Game sales and discounts, maybe a DLC or two, the inevitable PC release.

I think 5 million is a very safe bet.

Unless there’s a stunning reversal of fortunes on PC, I’m not sure I see a pathway to them hitting 5 million, from chart performance so far.

Koei Tecmo wanted it to sell 5 million. Not sure it'll make it.

Fun game in a big franchise on every platform.

"In a notice of revision of earnings forecasts for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, Koei Tecmo has revealed plans to revise sales projections for the year as a result of games underperforming in sales. Sales projections have been dropped by 11% and operating income by 28%. Software sales are missing the intended target by the equivalent of $70 million."

All you sales expert regulars can dissect this and if it's a big deal. Not really UK related. 11% off doesn't seem like the end of the world, but I just get the sense they wanted this to be their breakout mainstream game.

Aight, let's try something different. Got ahold of platform specific GfK charts via two different media outlets - Source for Xbox and for PS.

They definitely wanted it to be their breakout game. But it can still sell well even if it doesn't hit their lofty goal.

Those games CAN NOT run on the Switch. Maybe......maybe Spider-Man 1. The other two? Nah.

If they expected 5 million sales, then they probably should have made a cross-gen game. Not sure why they expected that when their previous two games did 3.5 million on average.

Interesting that Starfield isn't in the top 10 for Xbox Series consoles.

May as well port Mario to PlayStation! 😜

Also, GT hasn’t rebounded. It’s doing what GT does - selling. We just got word that Sport cleared 12.9 million from the Insomniac leaks, so it hasn’t really ever left (outside of 6, but that was for obvious reasons).

Unlike X it was not just a bad idea, it was simply necessary when no agreement was reached, or at least EA did correctly assume they can manage without that name, while continuing with teams, players and leagues... but the new name sucks nevertheless. Just EA football or EA soccer/sakkā for some markets would have been better.

Did Suicide Squad at least pump Batman sales or was Batman always lurking in the charts in that decent position? Did not pay much attention but I never noticed it.

High end Hogwarts can't either, therefore the Switch port is practically a new, low end game, a demake. Doing the same port effort, any game can run on Switch, naturally at a cost. Spiderman/Miles would just need to look like PS3 Batman or PS3 Watch Dogs...

Nah. Most people I know just call it FC24

Name it EA Soccer 24 and people will call it EA 24.

FC 24 sounds better than EA 24.

The switch can run the witcher 3, it can run miles morales and if it can run miles morales it can run SM2.

Obviously with caveats.

LOL! Wow if that's what it takes then lets pray to GOD Sony NEVER does a Nintendo Switch demake of Spiderman 1 or Miles Morales.

The Witcher 3 is a 2015 game, there are plenty more games on the PS4 that look and run better that are very demanding games, RDR2 as an example.

There were a LOT of cuts made to the Switch version of TW3 and still runs at an inconsistent fps, in handheld it looks decent but on the TV it looks really rough, the loading times are quite significant and even in combat there are a lot of drops.

I understand that some people act like the switch has a the power of an iPhone 4, but there are plenty more that think that anything can run on it at decent performance when is not true.

Hogwarts Legacy has become the GTA5 of this generation. It's probably the default game new console owners.

That and I think it's able to tap into the female audience far more effectively than most games.

It will likely remain this way until GTA6

Shows how insignificant xbox physical sales are here when, bar fc24 which skews everything, the other games topping the individual charts are not in the top overall top 10. Historically we know being outside the top 10 overall equates to very small numbers, so just a fraction of something quite small.

12.9! That's better than GT5. That makes it second only to GT3. Although I see GT7 passing Sport and even GT3's 14.7 M.

Will Sony be getting any Nintendo exclusive made games in exchange? Will the PS5 get the latest Zelda or Mario game?

LOL, you sound like an xbox fanboy asking for Sony games in return for Pentiment.

This isn't an exchange, it's just good business.

At this rate, Sony probably wouldn't do another license after the X-Men licensing runs out. X-Men 97 seems to be doing pretty well with fans, but so much is going to ride on the next few portrayals of Wolverine on the big screen to get more interest out there.

Deadpool and Wolverine is out in July and then will get newlife with streaming probably by November/December.

Sure, if Sony wants to go the way of Xbox and make their HW irrelevant. There's a reason PS5 is flourishing, while XSX is in the garbage. Mediocre games Day 1 on PC (and GamePass) and now, their games coming to PS5 and Switch, and eventually, PS6 and Switch 2 in the future. It's also why Nintendo isn't going to go this route, either. They'd be an idiot to do it.

Everyone and their mothers know this was all just a ploy by MS to have a race to the bottom, that only they could afford to win. Unfortunately for them, Sony didn't take the bait, and MS was left with an almost unsellable box and a sub that's bleeding money, with rumors that that money is starting to dry up for certain games coming to GamePass.

So stop acting like this is some great business plan by MS. They're only doing it because their previous business decisions make them have to go 3rd party if they want to keep their gaming aspirations afloat.

You struggle as do many to understand the difference between causation and correlation.

Microsoft putting their games on PC isn't what derailed their console sales. Putting their games on PC Game Pass Day 1 and not having compelling games for years is what derailed their console business.

Sony studios used to sell some PS1 games on PC back in the day and no one cared. There are multiplatform games that are played on PS5 instead of PC. The vast majority of PS5 owners don't even own Sony games and aren't buying PS5 specifically for Sony games.

Sony used to be a pretty underwhelming first party and still had the best selling console ever in the PS2.

Selling a gimped version of Spider-Man on the Switch isn't going to cause people to buy a switch over a PS5. It might upset some fanboys who want Spider-Man to be exclusive, but it would make Sony a fortune at no cost to their core business.

Perfect case for this is MLB The Show.

Sony was forced to release this on Xbox (X1 and XBS) and Switch. The game is now a top 10-15 seller annually. It would sell even more copies on mobile and PC.

PS5 is still on pace to outsell PS4.

Sony doesn't need Spiderman 1 and Miles Morales on Nintendo consoles or mobile. There's a difference.
