Updated XBOX Console Prices

Did Asha make this decision? If so...Cloud is coming so hard next gen. I am not here for it.
xCloud is already a part of all Gamepass tiers minus the PC tier. Did you really think MS and AMD designed a GPU die more powerful than RTX 6090 to do nothing with? MS is setting the stage for true triple purpose Cloud chips rather than relying on custom Series X server blades. Usable for Azure AI, Enterprise, and Xbox Cloud.

You can still get Series S in the UK second hand for £130 and even less. I see PS5 Slim Digitals for £250-£280 too.

The price rises just haven't hit the second hand market which is why I find it funny when there's a price rise and people think that means they'll be able to sell the one they own for a higher price too.

The Xbox Series X going up $150 doesn't mean the one you already own will sell for $150 more.

Dear Gaffer from the future,

I was not aware that the 6090 even existed, let alone that Xbox had designed a GPU even more powerful than it. Could you tell me, what is the state of the world in your time? Has AI taken over the human race? Did they manage to get those sex robots to be fully automated? Is john Connor actually Neo from the Matrix?
I could be willing not to start a revolution against our new AI overlords should the aforementioned sex robots live up to their promise.

Come on man, you couldn't come across as a bigger Microsoft shill even if you tried, ever since you joined, the overwhelming majority of your posts have been some variation of defending Microsoft or trying to score gotcha points against its critics.

Andthen you seriously expect people to believe that your time as a moderator on Xbox/MS subreddits is completely unrelated? You'll have to forgive me if I find that very hard to believe.

Target has Xbox consoles on sale. You can pickup a Xbox Series X 1TB (disc version) for $573.99. If you signed up for Target Circle and have a Red Card, you can apply a coupon that gives you 20% off anything in-store and you can take an additional 5% off with Red Card. So that should be a total of $118.50 off the sticker price there.

You could potentially walk out of Target paying less than $500 for a new Series X. Unfortunately Playstations were not part of this promo, but enjoy your Grand Theft Auto.

I suspect the chasm will be narrowed when GTA comes out. Wouldn't surprise me if the new norm for second hand units is £300 rather than £250 following November. There's definitely a disconnect at the moment. It took me months to sell my PS5 last year and only after 10 people dicked me about did one sound fella simply pay the asking price.

I'm not even sure younger people are bothered about power so the writing's on the wall anyway for traditional consoles
They're not. I've been watching the current generation of gamers and they just don't care about power and cutting edge graphics the way I do. Much to my dismay because that's always been such a big part of the hobby for me since the late 80's when I walked into the videogame section and the salesman said "you should get Castlevania, it has great graphics" lol. Ever since then I was enamored by the concept.

It probably doesn't help that a lot of modern devs are using the extra fidelity and horsepower to do shit like giving women realistic facial hair and warts and stuff. There's a line between realism and idealism and I think at least western devs crossed that line a few years ago.

I largely agree. One major reason used consoles would increase in resale value would be like if new supply suddenly dried up, not because the price for new consoles went up. Case in point, I recall back in 2020 new Switches were hard to come by during the lockdowns, so the price of used Switches went up. Everyone wanted to play Animal Crossing. It's basic supply/demand.

With Xbox series consoles they have to be desirable enough to buy in the first place, much less with inflated pricing , and that's simply not the case.

And bundled with the Zelda Collection (4 games!) to boot! Alas, all good things must end.
That 2000s era was crazy.

Cheap systems (aside from PS3 launch with BR which came down in price), lots of great games churned out fast.

And systems were discounted half price or more. Console makers had huge bundled boxes of games. And stores would also be fighting for customers with their Xmas promos. I remember they'd sell 360s and PS3 with 5-6 games. They were old ass games (Strangehold was always one of them!) but for a casual gamer or fam who doesnt care about the latest games that's good starting gear to get gaming.

You dont see that anymore in a long time. Now, youre lucky if the box has one game included.

That's one of the Xbox fanboys' go-to moves: Sony and AMD announce a collaboration to co-develop RDNA5?

No problem, just go online and lie, claiming "Microsoft is doing it too."

The level of ignorance at MS is so staggering that when they saw the PS5 running at 2.23 GHz, they thought it was "overclocking," completely unaware that the standard minimum clock speed for RDNA2 is 2.2 GHz

It became one of the biggest laughingstocks in the gaming world, yet the idiot who came up with that, Jason Ronald, is still there as the head of Xbox hardware...

Bro....this is peak copium.

xCloud in the cheaper Game Pass tiers isn't some huge victory, it's Microsoft finally doing the bare minimum after locking it behind Ultimate. The streaming still has latency, compression, and input lag that local play doesn't. Nice for travel or casual stuff, but not the future of gaming. And don't forget they're most likely going to inject advertisements into the service if it hasn't started already.

Claiming they built a GPU die more powerful than an RTX 6090 (which isn't even out lol) is pure fanboy shill fiction. It's custom AMD silicon for Xbox/cloud/handhelds smart for compatibility, but not some revolutionary triple-purpose chip that's gonna dominate Azure AI and enterprise. Azure already runs on serious NVIDIA GPUs for that. Hell, even their new CEO has stated that the 'next gen' Xbox needs to be scaled back.

Cloud's been "setting the stage" for a decade with, at best, mixed results. It hasn't killed local hardware and honestly probably never will. It's a decent Game Pass add-on, nothing more.

Stop with the heavy shilling. It's all marketing gloss and most everyone see's right through it.

How do? I'm pretty sure these cloud computers requires the same amount of RAM and SSD. They already offer "Pay now, pay later, and down payment" options for those who aren't able to afford paying everything at once. I'd rather do down payments for an entire console generation than having to subscribe to any cloud subscription. Cloud gaming is simply a worse service. Not that we have the infrastructure for mass adoption anyways.

This.

And the only reason cloud gaming is cheap now is because it isn't being used by the masses.

Technology wise it isn't nowhere near usable. Houses are so expensive where I live, so most people have to rent their apartments. We usually have to stick with whatever crappy internet our landlords provides. Usually trough wifi. And there will always be a lot of wifi interference in crowded places, making the service terrible.

Fortunately I own my house. I get to choose my own internet and my own wifi router. Cloud gaming still sucks. Even on my PC which is hard wired, even though it's better. But there's in no way in hell I'm going to hard wire everything inside my home because of cloud gaming.

And as I said, Microsoft is already offering down payments if you aren't able to pay the whole amount for your hardware.

Especially when Geforce Now is being mentioned, people come out of the woodwork to yell "but I don't notice any difference". Well, good for you. Try using cloud gaming with a mouse and keyboard.

From Keplers accounts the Helix gpu is stock standard AMD roadmap with zero customizations....the delicate touch of "VP of next gen"...

Fail to see why this is bad.
AMD has been providing their semi-custom partners with such products for as long as the division existed.
When we get some sort of a "customized SoC" from them it's usually down to two things:
1. Either it's pure marketing bullshit on part of the partner (Sony loves this).
2. Or it's some sort of a weird design configuration which was deemed unfit for AMD's own products which almost always turns out to be worse than using a part with "zero customization" instead (Xbox used to love this; with weird memory configurations and some silicon which ends up being useless).
