I keep going back and forth on my opinion on Ragnarok. Some of these puzzles are terrible. I can see why playtesters told them to add in the aggressive hint dialogue.
How are they terrible? They're pretty basic, but they help break up the flow of just combat and exploration. At least they would, if the npcs would let us solve them ourselves.

Kept on playing Scorn today. I don’t fully understand why I’m liking it so much, I need to collect my thoughts once I’m finished, but right now I feel like I need to adjust my top 5 for this year. Feels like a game for adults, no hand-holding, no standard gameplay or designs we’ve seen a million times before, everything is unique, art design is top of the industry. I’m loving it.

Edit: Finished it! It’s quite clear that other devs have no imagination, it’ll take awhile to forget this one, wow. And this is now on the top 3 for the year for me.

These light crystal puzzles are terrible. I think they're just really unclear what you can interact with and what the point of the puzzle even is. And not in a tricky or interesting way. Just poorly designed. I can 100% see how the puzzles playtested catastrophically poorly. And thats basically what Alana whatever her name is confirmed on her recent podcast (she didn't say catastrophically but said everyone was getting stuck). I think its a problem in general for extremely high end graphics games as well like Horizon or GoW. Being able to show visual clarity is difficult when the graphics are this detailed. Same reason why all enemies in GoW have glowing red and yellow circles to telegraph attacks. Same reason why everything in Horizon you can interact with is bathed in neon. Just literally difficult to easily see sometimes.

The pacing of the puzzles hasn't been a problem for me but I thought the puzzles themselves were much better in the first game and really easy to see what you were trying to do and what the point of the puzzle is. Some of the water puzzles in the dwarf area I had similar thoughts. Just didn't know what they were even asking me to figure out. Something about the design of them just wasn't clicking for me.

Just finished Plague Tale Requiem on PC Game pass..

I thought as a package it was absolutely amazing - one of the most cinematic experiences I’ve ever had in a game and also the best looking game I’ve ever seen - easily (playing 4k 60 with HDR on an OLED TV). The score is movie quality tier and it’s a really sobering end. The scale of some of the set pieces are just crazy and some of the scenes are absolutely brutal and quite emotional. Cant wait to see what Asobo do next.

After that I fancied something a bit more chill and short, so Beacon Pines caught my eye on Game pass. I also noticed it was overwhelmingly positive on Steam so jumped in and am really enjoying the style, writing and music - very charming and “warm” feeling game after Requiem.

Added another Disney classic to the repertoire. This time it's Tales Spin on 8-bit and holy shit, it was difficult. Some sections was absolutely insane. Had to rewind the shit out of it and even then it was hard. This game was easily the worst of the games I've tried so far. Not even nostalgia saves this one.

Going through Callisto Protocol currently. I think I'm around 3/4 of the way through and enjoying it a lot. Will give it a second playthrough when more content is released.

Also playing more Battlefield 2042. The new weapons, vehicles, and map are great. New specialist has probably my favorite ability/gadget.

Otherwise I'm finishing up the GoW Ragnarok content after completing h the story.

Spent the weekend rotating between Callisto Protocol (XSX), and God of War: Ragnarok (PS4). Gonna continue both tonight.

GoW is nothing short of brilliant. Callisto is also very solid but I can understand some of the complaints. Still, I really like it and have no regrets. Looking forward to 100%'ing it and then playing the DLC.

I just started a new file on Witcher 3 in preparation for the update. Lol I remember thinking graphics couldn’t get any better… amazing how basic it looks today. Feeling my fukken age.

As soon as the music kicked in and Geralt starting speaking though… endorphin city with my test spiking. It’s good to be back where I belong.

Now to wait.

Starting to get bored of Dying Light. The parkour gimmick is getting old real fast, and half the time it's not working properly so you end up taking damage. The level design is often poor with stupid climbing sections that seems to be designed to piss you of. Combat is clunky, almost Skyrim level bad. The game loves to punish your mistakes, reducing points when you die, taking away durability of your weapons etc, but it rarely wants to reward you. The ability points are mostly useless and doesn't really affect anything except slight changes in your movement. The game never lets you breathe. Getting chased by annoying zombies 24/7 just gets, well, annoying. You also have all these recipes for crafting, but you can't craft half of the shit until hours upon hours in the game. It's like they're dangling this carrot in front of you, constantly giving you the middle finger.

I get the feeling Techland jumped on the Souls-bandwagon at the time, wanting to make a difficult game and implement several Souls-mechanics, without having a clue why these said mechanics are there to begin with or what makes them fun or meaningful to the gameplay experience.

There is so much I am trying to play right now that its getting out of hand, and that is after skipping this year's sports games. MW2 is awesome. Fortnite just improved and is calling. Still have GT7 that I can't find time to play. Now that I'm over wanting just new gen games, I have been playing the heck out of some last gen games with 60 FPS settings (Days Gone just wrapped up, GOW 2018 current, Horizon next). Cyberpunk has new content I haven't had time to try. Witcher 3 about to get updated. Probably won't go back into Mass Effect (beat the OG's) but it is coming on PS+. Still dipping toes into F13 when wanting quick scare. And the list goes on.

My favorite strategy game, got to plat it thanks to the PS cloud stream. I found that turn base strategy games probably suit cloud stream most as the fun does not come from precise inputs.

Finished two games. Dying Light and Legend of Mana. Wasn't a fan of Dying Light. It started out good, with heart pounding traversal and parkour, avoiding zombies and other creatures. But the gameplay formula grew stale pretty quickly. The story and writing was also really bad, not engaging at all, with terrible one dimensional characters. Combat sucked too.

Legend of Mana was a favorite of mine as a teenager so I thought it would be fun revisiting it again with the remaster. But aside from the beautiful artstyle and music it was pretty boring. Combat is really tedious and the story and world building lacka coherence and ends up as a forgettable journey where you're not really caring about anything of what goes on in the game. What a disappointment.

Jedi Fallen Order. Some people complain about the HDR implementation but to me it sure does "pop", my jaw dropped running this after getting an OLED monitor. Im enjoying it so far and am looking forward to the sequel. Although I really think they messed up the loot system badly. If you're gonna copy the Souls formula, don't replace it's awesome loot with ponchos or random lightsaber handle parts you can't even see outside the menus.

Also been getting back into BF2042 which is actually pretty improved. Can't believe I pre-ordered the premium version at launch. Should have learnt from BFV lol, but at least I am having fun with it now.

Mass Effect thanks to Playstation Plus. Been wanting to get my hands on this for a while, just got around to buying it. Glad I held off and got it with my subscription. So looking forward to diving in to these three games all over again with the enhancements.

I played Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth and it was okay... the controls and general 'feel' of the game are pretty tight, but it lacks the creativity of their Touhou game. Levels don't feel distinct and the gimmicks & puzzles aren't interesting, in general.

The main gimmick of the game is that you have two spirits that you can swap between. One has better aerial mobility, allowing you to freely hover after a jump, while the other... I think just has higher base attack? There are also enemies that are either weak or completely resistant to normal attacks made while equipped with a particular spirit, and you can negate elemental damage with the matching element equipped.

Most crucially though, you passively regen health when your spirit is at level 3, something that is achieved fast enough by killing enemies and damaging bosses with the opposite spirit. Basically, once you get hit by a boss, you switch to the other spirit and use two of the basic magic attack against the boss, and that will get you back to level 3 with the original spirit. It's way too easy to beat bosses by exploiting this mechanic. In the end I died to two bosses in the game, three deaths altogether.

And yeah, this is an easy game. It's not completely challengeless, it's tougher than Symphony of the Night for instance, but you'll never be truly challenged.

I'd still recommend it though. It's just... I enjoyed the game, but it feels kind of hollow. Like, I finished it yesterday and I can't really remember much of the environments or enemies.

I'm also playing Halo Reach for the first time. I want to play all the Halos, or at least all of the Bungie games. Reach seems solid enough so far.

I get it. I love games like EDF and those don't exactly make you think but Gungrave is so plodding and on the default difficulty settings at least, you could beat the game without really looking at the screen save for the few shield enemies they throw at you.
Hard mode fixes a lot of that by the way. Damage from enemies is significantly higher. Everything else is pretty similar. More enemies too

Yeah it’s baffling how they offer to stream fighting games, FPS, and platformers. Strategy, RPGs, puzzle (without timing), and some simulations are the best kind to stream without having to worry about lag.

House of the Dead remake Switch- really fun arcade horror action! The gyro is better than expected although it still drifts from time to time. I hope a Nintendo successor refines the gyro with some kind of tech that eliminates the need for recalibration

Evil West-also horror action but has different feeling from House of the Dead remake. It harkens back to the 360 era in style, but gameplay wise you can tell what it's inspired by. DMC, Godhand, God of War 2018, etc. while having mechanics original to it. It's a fun romp worth playing :]

Went through my PS3 collection and found a game called Inversion. No memory of buying it but here it is. Decided to give it a go. Mediocre doesn't even begin to describe it. Gears of War clone cover shooter with gravity manipulation. Got jank written all over it. Hovers around 10-15 fps. Story is ludicrous as well as main characters. 2 minute gameplay section then cut scene. Rinse and repeat. Awesome.

I underestimated just how difficult Shredders Revenge would get when you get to the part when you are facing the enemies made from boulders of rock.....that and the fact that there seems to be nobody on the public servers to join up with....as well as the stage having two bosses instead of one is making it a very frustrating experience..

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
GTA Online, PS5 - still grinding my way to level 100. I lost my original progress to some bug and have been slowly whittling away at the levels for months, off and on

Marvel's Midnight Suns, PS5 - good fun, feels very Dragon Age: Origins in a good way

Tactics Ogre: Reborn, PS5 - a nostalgia buy, I admit, and I am not finding myself as into it as I thought I would be. I'll probably put this one on hold until I complete Midnight Suns

Gears 5:
Tried for the first time
Oh boy does it look good and I started the Hivebusters campaign.

Titanic Honor and Glory:
Crashes after like a minute doing anything.
Perhaps it spawns me on the ship moments before it strikes the iceberg. Fuck knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Elden Ring coop on the weekends.

Finally got around to buying the Village DLC so I'm sure I'll play through that this weekend.

Finished Chip and Dale 2 for the NES. That concludes my journey with the Disney afternoon collection. It was a great trip down memory lane. Lots of childhood favorites in this collection of games.
Ha, I was playing through that too the other week, it was on sale for cheap.

What time is it?
Played some more Singalis. It reminds me of classic RE. My only complaint is they borrowed the match mechanic from the Evil Within.

Probably like 6 hours into God of War Ragnarok (PS5),
just played some of the intro of Returnal (probably going to make a LTTP soon),
playing Marvel’s Avengers (XSX) campaign for achievements and it’s assss,
trying to get into Plague Tale Requiem (XSX) cuz the graphics are nuts,
got a couple missions into Prodeus (XSX) and it’s kinda dope,
restarted my save of Sunset Overdrive (XSX) but the image quality is so bad,
playing the trial of NFS Unbound (XSX) and the graphics aren’t anywhere near as good as FH5, but it’s kind of cool for what it is however difficult it is in the beginning. Got damn.

This isn’t even my backlog and part me thinks I should just put my head down and get through Ragnarok.

I know I’m planning on dropping everything for High On Life next week so who knows.

House of the Dead: Overkill on Wii U

This is basically exactly what I wanted! A more accurate House of the Dead experience! It's different from 1 but still retains the series flavor in key ways. After I'm through with this one, I want House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return for the Wii as well
