What have been your favorite action films of the 2010s so far?

I will just name five. The last one being my favorite.

Dredd 3D
The Raid + The Raid 2
John Wick
Skyfall

These films all have unique qualities. Skyfall is cinematography porn. Dredd 3D has a female heroine who is not only badass but also thankfully not forced into a romance. John Wick has both a sense of realism regarding the fight scenes and a unique approach to presenting the criminal underworld. The Raid movies have excellent but realistic choreography that is brutal and an absolute joy to watch.

What these films do have in common is great direction, writing, and editing. They are all meticulously put together.

People gave a shit when making these movies

What say you GAF?

Fury Road
The Raid
Winter Soldier
Edge of Tomorrow
Fast Five
Attack the Block
Dredd
Snowpiercer

I didn't care for John Wick as much as most people seem to

Off the top of my head:

Edge of Tomorrow
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
The Avengers
Captain America the Winter Soldier

Haven't gotten around to John Wick or Mad Max yet.

The Raid: Redemption

Skyfall
Man of Steel
Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America: Winter Soldier

I took a couple from each year. In no particular order.

Skyfall
The Raid
Raid 2
Edge of Tomorrow
Snowpiercer
John Wick
Dredd
Fury Road

all come to mind with Mad Max Fury Road being my number 1. I wasn't a fan of what Marvel had to offer. Winter Soldier was a good film but I don't think I can say it's one of my top action films from the past five years.

Fury Road
Dredd
John Wick
Safe
The Man from Nowhere
The Raid 1 & 2
Undisputed 3: Redemption
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning
Riddick
Fast Five
Rurouni Kenshin Trilogy
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Ninja: Shadow of a Tear
Edge of Tomorrow
Kingsman: The Secret Service

I had trouble cutting my list down. Too many good action movies in recent years.

Fury Road

hm's: The Raid 1 and 2, Dredd, Edge of Tomorrow, Fast Five and Furious Six, Scott Pilgrim, World's End, John Wick

I don't think Attack the Block counts.

Is this the thread where people realize we're currently in the middle of a really nice action renaissance, and slow up on the idea that we're constantly bombarded with subpar hypercut action shot by epileptic cinematographers in a jeep with square wheels?

I don't think Attack the Block counts.

It counts. Especially if Scott Pilgrim counts.

Action is a genre that's a lot more forgiving regarding inclusion than something like "Superheroes" or "family films"

I'm incredibly surprised the creator of this thread did not list Fury Road...

The 2000s were definitely that moment. Hollywood finally mastered CG and started making big dumb spectacles (ie Michael Bay)

But it seems like Hollywood's familiarity with the techniques has reached a level where they are doing artful things with that spectacle.

If we could go back to 2009, I'd definitely include Avatar on the list.

I actually think that Hollywood's mastery of CG means we get far lazier, less imaginative CG spectacles—at least when it comes to the big budget (200m) movies. Instead of coming up with intelligent action set-pieces, every action movie seemingly has to turn into a disaster movie in its final act. It's no coincidence that the best action movies of the past few years have been, for the most part, much smaller film, imo.

Eh, everything other than Fury Road has been pretty

forreal, there's a reason I have no marvel movies on my list. them and man of steel kind of made for some pretty damn boring final act action sequences. post-LOTR only Avatar managed to make a really good action sequence with heavy use of CGI.

the Avengers

Still need to see Fury Road, Dredd, and John Wick. Also I know this isn't a popular opinion but I didn't care for the Raid. I have trouble enjoying a movie that light on dialogue and the action/choreography didn't blow me away.

All those ''Edge of Tomorrow'' replies brings tear to my eyes. Such a fantastically well delivered movie and it doesn't get enough recognition it deserves.

Truly one of the biggest sunrises I have watched in Cinema!

The Raid 1 and 2
Fury Road

These three are way ahead of the pack at the moment.

Really hope we can add The Force Awakens to the list by the end of the year.

I'll be seeing Fury Road this weekend, so for now it is

The Raid
Dredd
Fast Five
Winter Soldier
Edge of Tomorrow
The Raid 2

I love the basic setup of The Raid and Dredd. I'd go watch 10 more with that setup.
