That's the thing, my acquaintances weren't familiar with GOTG either and none of them were interested at first. The recent trailers and overall hype made it much easier to sell. It isn't that hard to make an action adventure in space look hype though, I'm looking forward to seeing if they can do the same with Ant-man trailers. It can go either way imo, this poster itself has a tokusatsu vibe that doesn't roll with many people. There was a proof of concept video a while ago with the character doing some crazy shit while fighting guards that looked dope, but I think that was when Edgar Wright was still involved, not sure.

well the way i think back about it...is i really had no previous exposure to the films or properties that i ended up loving as a child. Robocop, Terminator, TMNT , so on and so forth...i guess i just took the time to sit down and check them out on HBO or whatever. I think that ...its a bit off to say HA this is a comicbook lets look and see what built in audience it has...thats silly its on both ends of the spectrum some comics are iconic , others are great material (dredd, crow, Gotg) and lets see what they can do with it. 50 years ago hank pym was a sci fi anthology character, no different than flowers for algernon or any other short story free form rhetorical format(ironically so was groot and thor) Pym just had pictures included in the narrative. This constant asking about their place in recognizability is just another side show.

Didn't Thor and Cap 1 come out 2 months from each other too?

May and July 2011, but I think he's right. 2.5 months after Avengers 2, that movie will have JUST left theaters, after making all the known money in the world. They're delaying Ant-Man, count on it. It's a risky movie in too risky of a spot for it's own good

If they can release it right on the heels of Avengers 2, just as it leaves the theater, there is no better time to launch a new movie in the same universe. Especially one that needs to be sold to audiences. This movie may need to ride the leftover HYPE trail of A2, and who knows, maybe the end credits for A2 leads right into Ant-Man. It could be HUGE for the new franchise character.
I think they should do all they can to not delay, as who knows what dates are even available for next year. Don't want to slip onto an extremely crowded date, or have to delay till much later in the year.

I wasn't even talking about recognizability though, just rambling about how Ant-man as the driving force behind a solo movie concept can be a hard sell for people I know, regardless of him being a well-known character or not. As a comic character he's actually better known than GOTG in the circles of people I know, but I'm with you, that really doesn't make a difference in the end. They just need to make a good and appealing movie and do right with the marketing, then the pieces will fall into place.

Mind that I'm not talking about the whole moviegoer public or anything, just my personal experience. I'm looking forward to this as I do with any of the movies in the MCU, but since these movies make for a great group experience in theaters my mind always veers off to "ok, how will I introduce this to my friends". For now, if I show this poster to people I know they'll probably giggle and that's a bit unfortunate. The following promotional material will certainly bring more to the table, so I'll wait for it before I start talking about it.

There is definitely a lot of potential for this to be true, considering the villain for A2...this is the most plausible explanation for Marvel's apparent determination to keep this movie on schedule no matter what, and could even explain their bizarre, abrupt divorce from Edgar Wright.

All they need to do is hint AntMan or Wasp during Ultron and you can get people hooked in. Remember the Cap stinger after Thor?

I thought he just turned small. Never knew he was like the aquaman of literal ants. That is kinda dumb. Will probably still watch!

just put this scene in the movie and we're good

I really want this to happen ASAP. But I'd want Ant-Man to stand on its own without any of the major players in the MCU showing up.

Avengers 3, please.

I really liked the Ant-Man costume in the teaser, so its cool to see something close to that has been decided for the character. Biggest worry now is if they can turn this movie around.

If only they had the guts to have Jackman wear it on film for 15 min

Holy shit why are they holding out on this!? Unless it looks terrible on Jackman, it seems they're doing it just to keep in line with Singer's black leather costumes.

I'm still excited for this movie because I love Ant-Man. I just hope the MCU version of Scott Lang can fill in the void left by not having Hank and Janet in The Avengers.

I like the look, but the problem with face obscuring costumes is that they'll feel an obligation to remove his helmet at every opportunity.

Marvel makes Hank Pym a scientist at Starks Avengers HQ (brought back out of retirement from SHIELD Labs due to his robotic engineering, A.I. expertise & previous experiments that were declassified regarding "Pym" particles). In the post credits to AoU we find out that he did/activated something that directly leads to the plot & villain of his own movie? To be continued in Ant-Man... July 17, 2015

They're really making him ride ants? Good lord, people are gonna think he can control ants or some dumb sh- oh my god, they aren't actually putting that stupid power in the movie are there? I want this to fail for my boy Wright...

The ants are dope.

I'm not familiar with Ant Man as a character as I never really read the comics, but will there really be giant ants in the movie? I love the Marvel films so far but that just sounds corny as hell lol.

I hope Marvel won't be discouraged if this movie bombs. Maybe it won't. I hope it won't.

Financially, Dr. Strange would've probably made more sense after Avengers 2

It'll be like Honey I Shrunk the Kids with Sam Jackson as Rick Moranis.

So this rich guy sits down in a cave in a rubber suit crying about his dead parents?

So this rich guy with a bad ticker wields a few sheets of metal together and goes around fighting crime?
