If true, I'd go out this minute and buy one. Now that's a unique feature!

And pfft, you're no fun. I was hoping to get through the NPD evening at least before we all went back to that grey area between paranoia, conspiracy theories and somewhat legitimate concerns about trucks of money getting sent various places. That place we've all been hanging out in since ParityGate started and really, really dislike thinking about.

Unfortunately it'd be just another case of Sony copying a Microsoft idea.

I gotta give it up to Sony and their fans. A weaker online offering, A botched game release(Driveclub) and people still buy it like crazy.

It also goes to show how fucking terrible MS did out of the gate.

The longer this thread goes, the more the crazy bubbles up.

Salinity levels rising, and I don't know why. Did anyone aside from Pac really expect the X1 to sale greater than the PS4?

What was that horrible PR response by MS?
makes it seem like they sold horrible even
with that deal of theirs. Not even acknowledging the actual months NPDs like they sold worse than last month.

Something something holiday season.
Something something complete.

They have new IPs coming up too (retail and digital).

The "cycle stuff" is disingenuous IMO and is similar to someone saying that the PS4 is simply "Uncharted, Gran Turismo, and Killzone". All of the three consoles have multiple games and new IPs outside of just the long running series.

Anyway, still no word on Xbox One numbers? Only way I would find them absoltuely horrible is if they are under 200K.

The only new ip after SO I know about is Quantum Break. I don't think it is that disingenuous either. They literally took a team off of a under development new ip to make a Gears game.

The PS3 turned it around by selling well in Europe and Japan. That won't happen with the Xbone.

The PS3 also continued to invest in its userbase up through 2013 with frequent new, first party content and excellent offers through PlayStation Plus, while the 360 largely coasted through the last years of the prior generation as it was comfortably ahead in North America.

I only had a PS3 last generation, purchased in December 2006. The first several years were very brutal, but the PS3 was a fantastic place to be as the generation wore on and I still enjoy gaming on it to this day in conjunction with my PS4. As badly as PS3 stumbled out of the gate, it brought some really great content in the second half of last generation. And it is certainly a distinct possibility that Microsoft will do something similar. The Xbox One could end up becoming that secondary console people enjoy for its exclusive and features after it gets a bit cheaper--especially as its exclusive library builds with time. If you jump into the Xbox One in Holiday 2015, there will be a decent catalog of titles for it you couldn't play on PS4. And if you haven't played it, it's new to you.

I'm not suggesting there will be some kind of dramatic turnaround and the two competing boxes will be neck and neck in the future, but I certainly believe the Xbox One has the ability to be a fair contender.

Actually XB1 is doing very well; above MS's expectations. The PS4 is obviously a bigger hit right now. MS may never catch up but that doesn't mean it isn't doing well or doesn't make lots of money for the industry.

Perhaps my line about "not doing well" wasn't properly qualified. It is certainly making money, hence why I stated it was in no danger of going away. There are a number of factors keeping it from market leader status, but just because you're not the leader doesn't mean that you aren't relevant, or even financially unhealthy.

If the words "concerned" and "salt" were banned from this forum I really think it would only benefit everyone in the long run..

How do we call stealth trolling then? It just morphed because accusing others of stealth trolling = ban if you can't prove an "opinion" has been masked for that purpose.

The word salt serves many purposes in online speak - specially here on Gaf.

Nah they were just late to the party along with japanese developers.

They will catch up by late 2015.

DQ : Heroes and FFXV will hit holiday 2015 in Japan im guessing.

Then The Last Guardian will arrive along with FFVII remake and Dark Cloud 3 announcement for 2016. All will be right in the world again.

Pipedreams. Sounds just like SCEJA.

Couldn't we start attributing software sales being down to Digital sales? I would bet good money that Digital is cannibalizing physical purchases, and it will only get worse as (at least on xbone not sure on ps4) digital release are at Midnight EST and not this bullshit PST crap that has plagued them.

Biggest change is being able to preload the games.

I completely forgot all about that. But that doesn't help explain the previous months where software sales have been generally down.

Numerous factors, but namely we still in the twilight of 7th Generation and the dawn of 8th Generation. The software YoY isn't still there as the big names either hits on big month only to be eclipsed by last year (thanks GTA V), or yet to be released. But yes the general trend is declining compared to past three years I think

A significant part of their success last generation was thanks to the countless blunders surrounding the PS3 (pricing, messaging, late launch, architecture)

Yeah, toward the end of last gen they phoned it in..never phone it in.

I felt that their dominance and mind share early on is simillar to Sony's so far. Trudging through some issues so far because of their big lead.

Brand is important. Brand association is also important. The former is why PS3 was able to recover as well as it did last generation. And Xbox simply does not have that on a worldwide level. You're seeing the latter in action right now with Destiny.

No doubt about it.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Why? Zelda games have always been bigger than Donkey Kong, and while HW is a spin-off, the game still got in the spotlight thanks to fans and because it got overall better marketing than Tropical Freeze.

Donkey Kong Country Returns outsold Skyward Sword last generation by quite a bit I believe. WiiU owners are a totally different consumer then you average Wii owner though.

I don't see this as any different from npd last gen in terms of salt or whatever the fuck you want to call it, same behaviour, different systems

I don't have any antipathy towards Sony lol, I replied to LN when he said my post was odd. It's not my fault people don't like what I say.

Sonys next fiscal period is due in two months, I suggest you read it.

I can't believe you're still trying to claim the high road, even after Bish slammed you down just the other day. No shame at all.

''This is a sad day for America.

I watched the TGS streams, I know what Playstation is all about. All of you Playstation lovers with your loli obsession and your anime avatars, if you love Japan so much, why don't you just move there? It saddens me that Americans would choose to associate with that rather than the sturdy, rugged, masculine, patriotic The One. Yet, throughout these sad times that we live in, I have still kept alive a lingering flame of hope that the great American values will endure, and Pacther’s predictions this week helped kindle that flame. But if these news are true, I may have to finally abandon that hope.

If these news are true, that is. Anyone else think it’s suspicious how NPD starts hiding console numbers, so that we are left at the mercy of the console manufacturers to provide us with what information they will, and suddenly Playstation starts doing better than Xbox? No one else finds it suspicious how the well-informed and knowledgeable video games analyst Pachter, who usually makes predictions with great accuracy, after consulting his vast retail contact network, predicts that The One will come out ahead, yet when we get “official” numbers, suddenly PS4 has sold more? It’s not like this is the first time that Sony is caught with juking the stats. Esteemed video games sales expert ioi recently revealed how Sony was lying at Gamescom with their 10 million consoles sold number. You may think Sony wouldn’t go that far, but they have lied to us before. They lied to us about the Driveclub PS Plus version and they lied to us about the power of their systems. One lie leads to another and once you have gotten into the habit of lying, it is very hard to stop.

But I guess this is to be expected. People who want to harm America always have a propensity to believe in made-up numbers. Look at how North Korean citizens swallow lies from their own leaders. Or closer to home, look at how liberals are gulping down the Obama administration’s lies. Look at how they are cooking the books on Obamacare and job reports. 250000 new jobs added in September? Hah, where I live, in real rural America, most people have given up looking. 250000 new jobs, my ass. Plus, under President Romney, we would have had at least 400000 new jobs. Or look at how they lie about inflation as an excuse to print money, debasing the dollar further. President Reagan (may he rest in peace) is turning in his grave. Inflation below target? Tell that to my local grocery store and gas station! These Washington types, always coming at you with their fancy numbers and their facts and their smug grins, thinking they know better than you. (And don't get me started on those IRS bullies. Federal income tax is theft and, even worse, unconstitutional, and I'm not paying to help finance a government I never voted for. So they can take their tax return forms and their court summons and shove them up somewhere. Don't bother coming back here!) And throughout all this, the mainstream media keeps cheering the administration on, helping them pull the wool over Americans’ eyes. This is very similar to the gaming media, incidentally, with their strong Sony bias. Kotaku is far too close to Sony. Always has been.

Maybe it’s time we started unskewing the NPD results. Even though they started shilling for Sony only relatively recently, I have always felt that their numbers are suspect. They don’t track sales from online stores, where more and more customers are taking their business these days. Also, it is well-known that they don’t take digital download sales into account. Who knows how many console sales they miss that way?

Still, I am always the optimist. I have hopes for the future. It looks like people are finally starting to see through the Democrats’ lies. If polls are to be believed, we will put a patriotic majority back in the Senate in November. If it can happen there, we can get the powers for good back into power in the video game business at the same time, with the arrival of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and, most importantly, the monthly OS updates. Until then, God bless you all, and don’t forget to vote in November!''

This quote made me laugh. :)

Whenever I see you post I always feel as if you try to detract from what is going on now. The PS4, today, this month, and the past year, has outsold your preferred Xbox. Do you ever get tired of constantly diverging from reality? I mean, sure, you bring up semi relevant points with Sony losing money, but what about Microsoft who's lost money on their gaming division? Regardless, your posts consistently insinuate that you wish this was an alternate realty.

I've never taken away anything from Sonys success, they deserve it. If you could read, you'd have seen the posts where I state they've executed the last 18 months perfectly. But a gen is a long time, and I provided examples of variables that could have an impact on Sony.

MS generate 20BN roughly every 3 months, or something along those lines, they can afford to be in the industry.

And no, I don't wish there was an alternate reality, MS getting thier arse kicked over the last 18 months will be an excellent thing for me as a gamer, as it means MS will be forced to invest in games games and more games. If it means I get Banjo, then I hope it continues.

Please take the time to read my posts, instead of immediately attacking me, because i say something about your fav company that you don't like.

Most of us knew the PS4 was going to sell great in September. None of us that I saw thought the Destiny would sell better on X1 in any metric.

I know I didn't think it would, but I also didn't know FREE, non packed in games that Microsoft included if you bought an Xbox One, counted in NPD.

I didn't know those free Destiny giveaways counted as sales, when the PS4 bundle doesn't....

Makes me wonder if Sony will give away a free copy of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare next month if you buy a PS4. That would be a great move. Seems that Microsoft found a clever back door to battle bundles and still count your giveaways in NPD...

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I felt that their dominance and mind share early on is simillar to Sony's so far. Trudging through some issues so far because of their big lead.

The 360 had a year head start last generation and that was a huge lead in mind share.

No its not. It hasnt outsold PS4 in almost a year, losing very single month since launch last year is not "very well".

MS are doomed if they dont get traction in 2015

They're not my favorite company and I just happen to think you say a lot of stupid shit. That's about it.

Maybe you should get on Microsoft and/or Nintendo to make their product more appealing instead of bitching and moaning about the PS4 selling well.

Exactly. They should be blaming those companies for making both Wii U & Xbox One very unappealing to the market at large & for their horrible advertisements.
