Well seeing as the Great Korra Konundrum seems resolved let's try another Q&A.

How many of you here are tempted to pick up Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes but haven't played all or some of MGS3. Portable Ops & Peace Walker? For those of you on the fence would a non-spoilery break down of the timeline as a primer make you more or less inclined to pick it up?

I haven't played the series, I'd be interested in trying it out, but I'm not going to dive in halfway through a story driven series, even with a plot summary.

I was hoping the rumors of a collection were true, but alas.

Can confirm. I played Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes this weekend, and found myself almost totally lost when it came to the story. Probably not the best game in the franchise to start with.

Did you read the story-recap? Was good enough for me to know what's going (as far as that's possible in an MGS game, I would be confused anyway).

^^This. I don't understand why it's so popular.
Because its a fun adrenaline filled game. Trying to survive the endless assault till stupid Bain show up so you can leave is exhilarating. Taking down a Dozer by working as a team is pretty fun too. And all those masks you gotta collect!

But the most important thing is you get to do is
Get Money Fuck Bitches.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

This was me after booting up the game:

Oh cool, a "Backstory" button in the main menu!

Presses "Backstory"

Wall of text appears with no voice-over

Well, I'm sure I won't be too lost.

Presses "New Game"

What a nice surprise that Dark Souls news is, can't wait to play it!

What news?

I guess that sounds like fun, but doesn't it get repetitive? It's not like you play against other humans :p

Of those 3 I only played MGS3 (and about the MGS games, I played only a part of the 1st, just the demo for the 2nd and completed the 4th) but going all in for GZ. Now, while I'm not on the fence, I'd love another free database like the one on PS3. It was a great source of information and quite nice to use (from what I remember).

Dark Souls has Steam achievements now?

Getting rid of GFWL is good news, but there's no way I'm going to perfect that game… I was looking forward to playing it without worrying about achievements. What a bummer :( My poor completion average...

That's like saying:

"Then don't buy any more games on sale."

"Then don't buy cheap bundles."

"Then don't worry about your backlog."

Easy to say, hard to do sometimes, LOL. I for one just may actually attempt to perfect Dark Souls, I love the game That Much. Praise the Sun, Damnit.

holy shit @ dark souls 1 (aka best souls game ever) news

I'd do a replay just to get those sweet steam achievements.

I still need to beat dark souls 2 but it blows so I can't bring myself to :/

I 100%'d Dark Souls with GFWL. Time to do it again with Steam Achievements. Is GFWL removed, or did they just implement the achievement side of it? :O

The other important note that people seem to not understand, is don't leave the group, unless you know what you're doing.
Otherwise I will fucking kill you IRL.

You like puzzle games? Maybe like the progression of rouge-likes? Love titles with a charming art style? Well Road Not Taken is something you should take a look at.

Haha, unlike Rising, I am actually interested in giving the game a whirl. I just hope I'm done with Unity by the time it hits.

Well at least you can do the main op quite quickly. Though for the competitionists there are extra side missions, collectibles in the form of cassette tapes and percentage bars to fill.

Can confirm. I played Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes this weekend, and found myself almost totally lost when it came to the story. Probably not the best game in the franchise to start with.

I really liked it though, maybe I should play the first one. I own it on PSN but can't play it on either of the Playstation devices I own
Why Sony!?!!?!!
.

Yeah even with the recap sections each game has had (like you mention giant amounts of text) it's a series that pulls no punches in confusing newcomers.

You've just reminded me my Plus sub has 'expired' had a panic when all my stuff disappeared from my download list. Good job I bought a load of 12 month cards when Blockbuster went under here.

I haven't played the series, I'd be interested in trying it out, but I'm not going to dive in halfway through a story driven series, even with a plot summary.

I was hoping the rumors of a collection were true, but alas.

Fingers crossed it will turn up eventually. Konami have just got back into the habbit of realising PC exists and hopefully strong sales might tempt them to port over the Collection. Obviously unless it crops up out of nowhere Ground Zeroes is going to come first but it's nice to dream :(

I've had that installed permanently since it came out. Well that's a load of porkies as I'm on my third PS3 now but I've downloaded it on the other two as well within moments on signing into PSN. I'd love something like The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 again. That was a nice bonus for us European folks having to wait ages for Subsistance to drop. The bonus disc that came with vanilla 2 had some nice info on there too (including all the bullshit trailers and expo demos with Snake on the Big Shell).

I'm pretty happy with what I accomplished this weekend steam-wise. I managed to finish off RAGE and play through all of Papo & Yo.

And now, I've started and played through the first hour of Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut. I've been dreading starting it up for quite some time due to the problems with the port, but with Durante's DPfix, it actually runs great for me. The only issue I've run into so far is that I can't return to the game if I alt-tab out, and it crashes immediately if I attempt to use Windowed or Windowed-Borderless with DPfix. Well, okay then, I'll just use my phone if I want to bring up a guide.

But select the lower difficulty. Don't know what it's called since it isn't available in the PS4 version which lead me to giving up quickly.

Have you played P1 or 2? Not a game for everyone but when it grabs you....

I hate talking about DS1 on GAF because I love playing it co-op. I've soloed the game once, it was great, so I don't care if people tell me I'm "breaking" the game or whatever.

DS1 co-op is the most fun I've had in any co-op game, ever. Especially playing with my friend who didn't know the game well, so he was just as much a liability as a boon.
Yeah, people complaining about co-op not being legit gets old. It's crazy fun and the devs included it.

Actually I haven't played it since the patch but yeah it's not an easy game when it came out. First couple of years were like 'well this is swell, I'm saving the kids and back to the village in no time'. Then you get to about year 4 and the wheels fall off.

Dark Souls 1 got steam achievements? Hmm, there's just too much stuff coming out. IIRC, it takes at least 3 playthroughs up to the Lord Vessel to get all the achievements.

Also Payday 2 got another update for Crimefest, today they reworked the skills.

MGS3 and PW are the only ones you need to play to really understand the story of GZ and TPP. MGS1&2&4 all deal with Solid Snake's story. MGS1 has Kaz in it but he's a minor character (only appears in codec convos).
Portable Ops is disposable I heard (I played the game but couldn't bear shitty PSP controls so I quit after a few hours). Someone more into MGS games can elaborate.
Aside from Portable Ops they're all worth playing imo.
