GTA V : Getting Ready for the Next Generation in Los Santos

dreamlock

The hero Los Santos deserves
What's the first thing you guys plan on doing in first person to really get yourself "immersed" in Los Santos?

I'm thinking of heading to the beach, finding a guy on a race road bike, stealing it and touring the map.

I wonder what first person looks like on a bicycle.

Not a bicycle, but close enough!

First thing I'm going to do is to steal a plane, fly as high as I can and jump down without a parachute to become one with the earth. It's going to be terrifyingly awesome.

Normally, I just power through the missions, but for this I am doing the first mandatory mission and then I am going to act like a tourist and try to drive, bike, walk, and fly over every part of the map. I don't think I will touch a mission for the first five hours. I just want to get lost in the world...

Then? Rampages... sweet, sweet rampages for a bit. lol

I'm glad you get to keep your progression (RP/XP), but they should really reset vehicles and money going to next-gen. I don't want tons of millionaires buying tanks because they've kept money from a last-gen exploit, and I want heists to be something worth planning and executing and not wanting to fuck up because of the large payouts.

I'm gonna have 1.3 mil online day one from promos and such. What can that buy me?

I really like GTA V. It's my favourite, but I'm not sure if there is enough in this upgrade for me. I want to believe. Can anyone sputter the hard facts on additions without the PR fluff?

Not much of anything. You could get one good car and trick it out. Maybe add a shitty garage in the north to store it in. 500,000 of that money is tied to single player, btw, so only 800k in multiplayer. Just remember that everything costs you a lot of money in the online game. Dying. Car getting stolen/blown up, ammo etc etc

Is GTA Online available at the beginning or is it locked behind game progress? (Servers notwithstanding)

You don't have to play single player to access online.

Haven't played the game before, so I'll probably do the first couple missions to get myself into the groove.

Looking forward to my first car ride at night, switching to my Kavinsky/electro station and cruising for a short while.

That 1.3 million will be split between online (800 thousand) and singleplayer (500 thousand).
No, I am not counting the single player cash. I've got the 500k apology money being transferred from the character I basically did nothing with on PS3.

Has it been confirmed if your characters and stats carry over?

It was confirmed on the day the game was announced that your online character and stats will transfer from last gen to either of the next gen consoles. The only thing that won't transfer is purchased money if you move from one console brand to the other.

It is illegal to Tag Fish in Tag Fishing Sanctuaries by law 38.36 of the GAF Wildlife Act

No, no they shouldn't. The money and cars are exactly what I worry most about transferring over. What good is xp to me if I lose everything I worked for to get?! I played the game 100+ hours to get that money and cars and I played for all that I have. The only exploit I used was being able to keep the police SUV which Rockstar already took away from me (and don't get me on my rant why I don't understand why Rockstar doesn't want people having police vehicles. Especially the SUV which really doesn't give you any advantage. I just liked being able to cruise around in a police car).

You forget some of us actually did put the "work" in to get that money and cars and why should we get punished for the exploiters? I'd rather just let the exploiters keep their stuff than punish everyone to make sure they don't have an advantage (granted I have motivation as I'd be affected).

If I had to do it all over again, I'm not sure I would. I think I would just give up on online cause it would be really discouraging (or stick with old gen for online). Which is probably why R* is allowing transfer of progress. So people don't feel like they are stuck on old gen because they'll lose all the stuff they already worked for if they change over.

Oh, and that 500k they give for online? Won't even replace my favorite car in my collection.

So guys, are you creating a new person or taking the old one ?
I'm not sure if i create a new one or take the old

Since the trophies don't carry over I'll probably start with a brand new character, especially now that the character creator looks decent.

I must have missed that video, where did it come from? That looks so fun.

edit: Oh, I must be living under a rock. someone streamed the game earlier? I wish I caught that while it was happening!

I never thought I could be as hyped for a video game as gta v was and now it's almost out for ps4 with badass first person mode. So fucking hyped behind belief

So everyone is pretty much dropping $60 for this again right on launch?

I skipped it on the 360 because I felt a next gen version would come.

I happen to have Tuesday off, so I'll be playing it at midnight. Hope it's not a broken mess like everything else released these days.

gonna be so pissed if rockstar has taken away my cars. i bought my cars with shark card money and i know i'm probably gonna get "that's why you don't buy shark cards" but they shouldn't be taking stuff away from us just cause we haven't played in a while. i don't mind if they decrease my stats but don't take away cars that i paid for. either real money or not. i'd just be as pissed off if i had grinded hours to get them. if they aren't there then i'll be on to them and looking for them to replace them.

on a more positive note:

that bike crash first person gif looks awesome!

You've already been rewarded on old-gen. You've used the things you earned, bought the things you did etc. This is GTA Online 2.0. The last-gen bugs have been patched, the money exploits have been fixed and the mission payouts have been corrected.

Allowing players to carry over money and vehicles makes a lot of that mean nothing. Day one you'll have tanks trolling the new players, and you'll lose the sense of progression GTA Online should have. It'd be a damn shame.

If my money and vehicles don't carry over, oh boy. I'd considering returning the game for a refund. That'd be one way to kill my hype. I'm not money grinding again. I just want to drive around and do silly things with friends using the stuff I already own in game. That's where GTA Online shines.

Having to grind on 360 was horrible enough. I can't do that again. That's what burnt me out on 360 version in the first place. The in-game economy was so messed up and completely geared towards microtransactions in order to get good stuff.

You could troll a new player in a normal stolen car and a handgun. There's nothing to stop any player, new or old, from jumping the military base fence, stealing a fighter jet and blowing the shit outa the tank(s). The map is also big enough for newbs to find a safe place to play if they want it.

I'm paying £15 more than what I paid for the PS3 version on launch. Dat overpriced EU PS Store. Gotta have it digital this time so I can remote play it whenever I want.

I'm about to do the same, but my mind keeps telling me that it is wrong to pay 70€ since the last gen versions was 50€ at every retail store at launch.

Soo uhh just buy it from the US store? I buy all my games digitally from the US store.

47 euro for GTAV.

Against 65 euro's on the EU store.

Yeah... easy choice.

im going to go to the kifflom building on GTAO and chill and listen to the kifflom theme music.

Is the map incredibly similar to San Andreas? (For those locations?; I know that it is expanded.)

Unlike San Andreas this game only has the first city, Los Santos and some country side stuff. The other two cities are not in the game however the map is bigger than the first game. Los Santos is much much larger and there are a few small towns scattered around the map. The only two similarities I can think of are Grove Street and Mount Chilliad (but I'm sure there's more)

R* already holds new players hands enough allowing people to quickly turn off pvp combat if they see anyone near them on the mini map. I can troll players with 0 dollars using any weapon or vehicle.
