Wait up, could it be Silicon Studio's current gen console debut game? they did show that (rather impressive) engine reel some time ago!!

Yet... it hasn't been a long time since Ito has had a game? Think you need to re-look your Square devs there, bud. ;)

Toriyama has pretty consistently produced games for the last decade. Ito hasn't.

I vastly prefer Ito myself, but Nirolak is right; Toriyama is very likely up to bat.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
Can't be XVI, not before XV has launched. Likely XVI is in pre-production, but we aren't going to get an announcement of that.

It's either DQ or (gasp) a NEW IP!
I really hope for a new ip, TLR was awesome.

btw, Lightning Returns came out this year people, I don't think they'd announce another Toriyama game in such early stages. And we know that even if he is making something it's still not in full development since Toriyama has been doing stuff for mobile as well.

Unless they intend on reviving Racing Lagoon and that mobile thing was just to see if people still remembered that game.

Hmmmm....

Square announced FFIX, FFX and FFXI at the same event, and years later did the same thing with FFXIII and VersusXIII. I wouldn't rule out them announcing FFXVI just because FFXV is still to come.

How is he up to bat? He only finished working on his last game about 9 months ago after finishing 3 big JRPGs back to back and said he'd take a small break before thinking about what he'd do next. This is about a console JRPG, he won't have anything to show this soon when the game is likely at least 2-2,5 years away and probably not much more than 6 months into early production. There are many more directors at Square Enix who could have something a lot further in development, something actually worth showing, Ito & Kawazu among them.

They actually didn't rule out handhelds. It won't be on 3DS though unless it's maybe DQXI
Someone here translated it as "home console", so I'd say that rules out handhelds.

It might be HEAVENSTRIKE RIVALS judging from past trademark filings.

It's not MEVIUS FINAL FANTASY since that obviously is part of the FF IP, so it might be HEAVENSTRIKE RIVALS.

Is Dissidia considered a rpg? If not, I'm heavily betting that this is a new IP in the works rather than the revival of an old one or a new title in the Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest franchise.

Seriously guys, check the trademarks. They're a pretty good indication of what's to come.

EPISODE DUSCAE is FFXV, BRAVE EXVIUS is a FF mobile spinoff, HEAVENSWARD is FFXIV:ARR expansion.

The only one left is HEAVENSTRIKE RIVALS. As I said before, that could be it.

Hehehe Don't fall for the hype train guys. After the numerous disappointments SE have made last Gen in regards to their announcements, I highly doubt this will be anything of note. Even if on the slim chance it is a new DQ, I doubt it'll be the DQ we all want to play and it'll probably have a shit tone of shoe-horned in online features. If I'am wrong I'll happily eat crow but I sadly don't see myself doing that in the near future.

There's also Master of the Masks, something like that.

When Toriyama did his "infamous" introduction to LR, he basically showed concepts and no gameplay footage or even a CG trailer. He could do that again, so we can't rule out he isn't able to show anything.

Yes, totally forgot about that.

It's either that or Heavenstrike Rivals I think.

Master of the Masks sure as heck sounds like a name for an RPG.
Interesting. Didn't see those, thanks. Interesting names. Could this actually be a new IP, then? DQ doesn't subtitle their mainlines.

Edit: DQ does subtitle their mainlines. Don't know what i was thinking.
That sounds like a Dragon Quest subtitle for phone ports.
But we know it's not a port, and it's not mobile.

Yeah, remember these trademarks happen within just a few months of the actual reveal. This happened each of these filings, and it'll likely happen with Heavenstrike Rivals and Master of the Masks.

Huh? DQ sure as hell subtitles their mainline games.

Master of the Masks sounds like it could be DQ related. Eerily close to 'Chapters of the Chosen' and how that sounds.

There's also Imperial SaGa.

Next month it's the 25th anniversary of the series, SE might be cooking something (aka: the game that was supposed to be revealed in Spring).

Yeah, but at that point they were planning on releasing Lightning Returns a year later by Fall 2013 (though there was a few month delay later) and they had something to show relatively soon because they were re-using a lot of assets, so they knew it would be a quick project that they'd be showing a lot in the not too distant future. If Toriyama has some console level JRPG in the works, I doubt it will be released in the next year or so or that he'd have jumped into a completely new project with a new world, new characters, new gameplay, new story etc. this quickly, whereas there ARE several directors who could have some stuff that could be maybe 2,5+ years into development by the end of next year or early 2016 (which should be enough if it's some Drakengard/Nier like mid level JRPG that doesn't try to reach for the stars).

Again, there are several directors who could/should have something to show by this point, some of who we KNOW have either had something in the pipeline in the past (but got cancelled due to XIV 2.0) or know that they should be developing something at the moment, so they could have something worth showing now that it's been well over 1 year since 2.0 was released and it isn't sucking all of SQEX's resources, and some who have been quiet for quite some time without much output or knowledge of what they are doing. And we know a couple of unannounced games that they are 100% surely developing (SaGa 25th anniversary game, DQXI). So instead of pushing Toriyama to the front after a generation of being the head of mainline, offline FF, I'd think they wouldn't be so trigger happy to put him into the spotlight this soon, especially given how bad a legacy he left behind with PS360 generation FFs.

Them confirming they have a new console JRPG they are going to reveal != them putting up some website with a countdown. December has a few big-ish events where publishers might reveal some of their biggest upcoming games, so it's not like they are getting trying to get us hyped up about some OST or mobile title. It could be something pretty big.

And they already have DQX as an online DQ, doubt they are going to fool around too much with some MMO lite DQXI.

I'd understand the cynicism if this was a countdown clock somewhere, but when it comes to handheld & console announcements, they have been pretty good within the last couple of years, what's with them announcing stuff like Theatrhythm: Curtain Call, KH1.5 & 2.5 HD ReMixes, FF Type-0 HD, Bravely Second, re-introducing FFXV, FF Explorers, Drakengard III etc. If they have a console JRPG coming, it could be something worthwhile. Maybe not anything on the level of their biggest hitters like FFXV, DQXI or KHIII, but maybe something that can compete with Tales games & Persona, at least as far as their production values go. Or another game like Dragon Quest Heroes.

Although SaGa would be cool, and I'd be open to playing it just as I would a new IP, I just don't think SE will announce something like that after so much neglect.
