Decisive Games - MS Studio working on beloved strategy game series for Windows/Xbox

Yep a lot of things can change, like MS realizing that their strategy to sacrifice their PC studios to focus on Xbox was the wrong one.
I agree that it was a mistake. MS should be embarrassed of the fact that they don't have a AAA PC studio.

I just wanted to point out that the timeframe between Enseble's shutdown and Decisive Games' founding is a bit longer than you said it was. They didn't have plans for an RTS then, but they do now.

Sounds like Age of Empires, it could also be Rise of Nations from the 'beloved'. Halo Wars is not in there for me, sorry HW fans.

That's never stopped companies from trying before - there's been RTSs on consoles and you can bet nothing is sacred if they want to get it on consoles.

They can try for sure, but whatever the result is, it wont be an AoE game. AoE isn't suitable for gamepad, they'll have to strip a many things from the game to make it work.

I don't necessarily agree with them focusing on Xbox 360 was a mistake. They have the best selling console in NA, UK, Australia with Xbox 360 I think. They were just boneheaded and profit driven. Halo Wars got great Scores, sold a ton of copies, and Ensemble really did the Halo world justice, and MS just closed them down. They made one of the best console RTS games ever. Something they could have used now. I believe they just didn't want to keep pouring money into Ensemble. Look at what they did to Bizarre as well, same goes for Rare. Microsoft has never been good at studio management. Bungie disliked being under them so much, they bought themselves back and went independent again.

Microsoft were long-term partners of Bizarre for years: PGR1-4 and Geometry Wars, also they did The Club which didn't do very well either iirc. Now PGR4 did come out a bit close to Halo 3 and got eaten up by it but MS had been their partners for a long while and they were running out of money.

MS should have bought Bizarre for obvious reasons but I don't think MS mishandled them, they were a big studio, I don't know if PGR would have continued after 4 anyway, I think they were running out of ideas.

See above for Ensemble.

Thanks, interesting.

MS seem to have a lot going on behind the scenes. Soon all of these devs get announced (and hopefully release great games or at least show potential) the more people can get excited about future Xbox prospects and stop all the doom mongering around their line up.

For some odd reason, I don't think the doom mongering will stop until Microsoft somehow have first party JRPGs raining down from the heavens.

This could've totally been avoided if Microsoft had a worked to create a stronger partnership with Sega back in the OG days. Goddammit, it would have been genius.

Growing pains. The Xbox division isn't as experienced as the rest. I feel like they are finally heading in the right direction. If ONLY they didn't get stuck with such a shitty box. Next gen will be great for them, I can feel it.

Xbox One obviously has it drawbacks (mainly in the power department) but I don't consider it "a shitty box", their mistake will be trying to compete with Sony games for graphics when they obviously can't match it.

Focus on getting me great exclusive content and i'll be more than happy, which so far they've done a decent job.

I do think they will be making a mistake not to acquire certain partners if available but thats another topic for another day

I hope they at least rehire some of the Ensemble guys. Still kinda hate Microsoft for killing that classic studio.

Well said.

Here's to hoping?

I think there's a bright future ahead for Spencer/Xbox/Windows gaming

Yep, I don't really know what consists a couple, a few or some years, it wasn't long enough for me to get over it apparently. I know so many people that were into AoE, it was a big loss for PC gamers.

There was literally a teaser of Halo Wars at E3 2014 and the 2nd mission in Halo 2 Anniversary also has a Halo Wars teaser.

It's comming, but the question is when? I'd say 2016.

2016 would already look pretty good if that's the case

Gears 4
Crackdown 3
Scalebound
Phantom Dust
Halo Wars 2
Maybe one of Rare's projects or the Lionhead new IP

Halo Wars was OK, if they expanded on it it might turn into something legitimately good. I'd like to see them take the risk I s'pose.

Age of Empire is too amazing and modern Microsoft is no way up to the task of doing justice to the series. Probably be microtransactions for troop expansion or simple library or stone walls. 'Pay $0.99 to unlock stone wall tech faster than your competitor! And you're a Mongol'

'How do you build a legit Navy that isn't tactically eliminated in fives seconds because you're a complete legit buffoon? Pay $4.99 to win the game automatically, online or off!'

I'll buy an Xbone if this is Halo Wars 2. It's probably AoE 4 though. Not sure Halo Wars 2 can be described as "beloved" (though I certainly enjoyed it).

Please please PLEASE let it be Halo Wars 2.

That series is already established as a console RTS, when it comes out I know what to expect.

An Age of Empires/Rise of Nations being built with both systems in mind is a nightmare I don't want to think about.

....Unless this is a scenario like Age of Empires for the PS2, because then by all means let it be AOE! :p

Would be nice to see some more Halo Wars, but I highly, highly doubt it's referring to that. I'm not sure they consider Halo Wars a "strategy game franchise" at this point. Probably AoE. In any case, I hope it's a solid RTS. I've been itching for a good new RTS on console.

Forza Horizon 3 and State of Decay 2 are strong possibilities as well.

2016 Sounds stacked. E3 will bring in even more goodies as well.

Like I said in another thread, I'll would be interested in an RTS game that works with Smartglass. Wonder what this will be.
