The idea is *in an actual full game* that the character is used at all, there's no difference between being played or being a background asset, when used the character being in the game at all is set up by writing in purchase, and then it is left to the developers for creative freedom, sticking to the original owners design is more of a act of respect unless contracted. As far as PM goes it is a mod, the idea is it is licensed in the game by just be being in the game, and as far as that goes it is no different than giving it a different skin texture. The developers directly seek ONLY assets within the games and only runs with the original Brawl disc to promote the idea of being an addition to Brawl, and as a mod which doesn't even get donations is not in competition with Smash4. Smash4 and Project M aren't some mutually exclusive things where you can only have one of another, and arguing against it as competition is like arguing that something on bandcamp is destroying Kanye's numbers.

That's not how the law works lol

And you are telling me you have the contract info for all the guest characters in smash?

Ones that probably won't stick either.

This also brings up my pet peeve to the anime scene on buffs and nerfs.

Like in Persona, the average player complains about disadvantage matchups and act like they're all 7:3 or 8:2 or something.

Then they end up getting all mad over changelists on top of that.

I hope the Ky and Axl ones do :p
I actually don't for the Ky ones

Air Stun Edge and Split Ciel changes make me confused lol. 5HS staggering on CH is unnecessary too.

fun fact: the average match time for Smash 4 top 8 was ~3:15.6, average match time for Melee top 8 (+1) was ~3:18.2

something something lol 3 stock

I'm not one to complain about buffs for my character, but, uh, ASW, do you really want to give Ky that much more reward for using already great moves?

Melee community's too stubborn with legacy. We're going to need a big change to make people shift to 3 stock, and to a lesser extent, more stages, haha.

Honestly the only change I would do would be to give Ky his old Stun dipper back and THAT'S IT.

BUT SMASH 4 IS TOO SLOW AND MATCHES TAKE TOO LONG *Kappa*

Well, on average Smash 4 matches with 2 stocks take about as long as Melee matches with 4 stocks. So I don't really know what that proves.

It's not because it's in competition with other Nintendo properties, but because Nintendo is obligated to protect its IP (and being contractually obligated to fulfill their contracts with other IP holders for the guest characters). Nintendo can go out of their way to license Project M, but I have a hard time seeing any situation where they'd have sufficient motivation to do so. If they retroactively allow a mod (and make certain requests to make it not infringe on copyright that they don't hold) to not look like assholes, even though it was unauthorized and illegal, what happens when someone starts an illegal and unauthorized mod called Project N for Sm4sh? If Project M didn't use any brawl assets or the brawl engine, and renamed all the characters, then it would probably be safe from the inevitable C&D, but right now it's in exactly the same situation as that MLP fighting game.

I think the problem is that a lot of people are seeing it as "choose between Nintendo support or Project M for future events", but that's not the case. Any event running the game could face a C&D from Nintendo, and if Nintendo chose to do so it could nuke the entire community by disallowing people from showing their games period, so at some level the community can't choose whether or not Nintendo is allowed to participate. Running Project M now is like allowing an unvaccinated kid to attend your school.

I wonder what would be the average time for a match in Marvel...
All those delicious steam rolling happy birthdays.

you know, let me try this for a bunch of games, using Evo 2014 top 8 for everything except Street Fighter (Capcom Cup) and Smash (Apex)

lol

edit: Marvel top 8 average is ~2:28, featuring 8 timeouts

I think getting mad over changelists is reasonable - I mean, the main two characters I'm interested in are getting pretty much nothing but nerfs. Dirty or not, it's just not fun.

The matchup stuff is just nonsense though, but pretty much expected? Gotta blame that L on something.

One of the better things about playing characters that are a bit too good - I just look at stuff and go "Nah, no way she loses this matchup. Yeah, she lost that match but there's gotta be a way for her to just win. Time to grind / forum scour". Basically, gives me a nice default assumption that no way whatever character I'm playing is incapable of handling something. Drives the focus to my own (crappy) play.

Honestly the only change I would do would be to give Ky his old Stun dipper back and THAT'S IT.

Ssh, we need to revamp everything >:O

After the VS tournament, there is going to be a Poongko kumite. He apparently challenged everyone in usf4. Sako challenged players in Omega mode so that will be streamed too.

Melee should be 3 stocks at this point, imo. The 4 stock standard arose due to competitive Smash in general being a completely new thing and we were still figuring shit out. 3 Stocks didn't feel definitive.

But I think the players and the meta have matured to the point where 3 stocks should be the standard. Melee tournaments still take too damned long, and that was always one of my peeves when playing the game competitively.

I'd like to see a time difference for Sm4sh regarding two vs three stocks. Mainly for curiosity's sake. Two stocks is perfect though.

There's a post on smashboards with some statistics on some older Wii U tourneys but I can't seem to find it.

I use to be an advocate of 3 stock but 2 stock is much better for pacing and for tourneys imo.

Customs should really be on though and I'll keep fighting it.
