Will still purchase sometime this year.

I'm going to be real honest, I don't know if I can justify a PS4 for one game right now.

I'm going to feel like a dumb ass if Bloodborne ends up being bad. I'm doubting it though.

There's still like 4 years at least in this cycle and I'm sure enough will be there to justify a purchase for PC owners.

I didn't say the gameplay has aged, did I? I said Gears is a product of it's time - and as you so clearly point out, people expect different things and they demand new gameplay experiences. It is true that good gameplay is good gameplay, but if products today simply strip that from earlier design with pretty visuals, it's not going to cut it.
This is why the next Uncharted will have to innovate otherwise it will be criticised for being 'more of the same'. This is why people are sick of Assassin's Creed, and Ubisoft's sandbox design. If a new Gear was to release it would have to re-invent itself somewhat, for the same reasons.

Except, if the Kotaku review can be believed, RAD didn't even emulate the Gears formula correctly...

Kotaku said:
The Order is a barely competent third-person shooter. It repackages the cover-based shootouts of Gears of War and Uncharted without managing to capture any of the artificial intelligence quirks and level design tricks that made those games so reactive and exciting. When it comes time to shoot dudes, you're pushed into a small arena with next to no space for lateral movement. You'll crouch behind cover. Then, you'll simply pop up and take down target-dummy enemies as they lean into view.

Greatness awaits...

...and awaits, and a-waits and a waits...

Edit: I know this post adds nothing to the conversation, maybe a smile or two. But this is 30+ pages already so I think it's okay to toss a little extra noise in the mix.

Don't forget Little big planet 3 issues and reviews.

But LBP isn't a bad game irregardless. It did change a lot for the franchise.

However it wasn't graded on gameplay, QTE, time completion, story and what not.

It was graded solely on its bugs and server interactions as well as other mostly non gaming things.

Well I'm still excited to pick up my Premium Edition of The Order 1886 tomorrow. What, I'm suppose to change my mind based off some stranger's opinion? Nope. I'm way too much of an independent thinker to allow that madness to occur.

"Independent thinker"? Yikes. It's easy enough to form your own opinion in a less resource intensive way.

Drive Club absolutely bombed in the US and Japan and sold ok-ish in europe.

I think Destiny would be a better example.

What? DriveClub sold over a million copies world wide... None of us know the target number for any of these games so we cannot say if they bombed or not.

Based on the current leaderboard, where a couple of my PSN friends are in the beginning stages, it has probably gone over 1 million, even with multiple accounts on the same system.

So it's like Ryse all over again.

RYSE is bigger, longer, has less repetitive sections, better story, better story telling and not filled to the brim with cutscenes... Don't bring RYSE down to this games level.

Oh it also had Multiplayer and was a launch title.

How many of those million still own the game?

So...

It has been stated by Ready at Dawn CEO Ru Weerasuriya that The Order: 1886 has been in active development since 2010

5 fucking years for this?

greatness? what greatness? for being such a high profile game, this is misery.

Like someone has mentioned ITT, Sony needs to reevaluate how they greenlight games.

Shame on you RAD.

And no, I'm not an Internet bully. Your game is shit. As simple as that.

I personally would rather have Sony take a chance and let developers try their own thing.

But considering Stig's game went through like 3 complete iterations and 100 million only to be finally blown up from Sony, maybe Sony does have an issue with cutting bait and taking a loss.

Or maybe Stig's game was a wake up call, and they ordered RAD to push out what they could before X deadline so they didn't repeat what they just went through.

I have absolutely zero idea what Uncharted 4 or Naughty Dog has to do with any of this.

and neither do you tbh.

In fairness, the majority of AAA games this gen have been absolute train wrecks, with meh exceptions. I'm worried about just about everything AAA at this point save bloodbourne myself. Hell, I'm a little worried about bloodbourne too.

Considering I'm going to buy a PS4 next year, I hope this will be in the PS+ in order to enjoy it without shame

I'm glad I was on the fence TBH. I may get it when it hits half price or the bargain bin. Ready at Dawn seem like fantastic developers but hopefully this can spur them to create a really good game next time around.
They've only ever worked on PSP titles or ports, I guess it's not a huge surprise that they floundered on a flagship console title

Gears of War was a product of it's time - that kind of gameplay just won't cut it anymore.

Going by the footage and reviews, The Order's AI and level design are big reasons why the gameplay looks so drab.

In one clip, I saw Galahad throw a grenade into a group of 3 rebels, one of them shouted "grenade!", but then they all stayed in the same spot, guns pointed at the player before getting blown up. It was kinda pathetic tbh.

different tastes man. I'm just not ready to dismiss The Order 1886 as crap, based on what a reviewer (several reviewers) says. I'll judge it for myself, once I play it tomorrow. Still, what I've seen of the game thus far, I like. Call me crazy, but I love cinematic story driven games. I can respect other who don't like them, but I just so happen to love them.

You're right. The only way to know is to play it yourself.
But i can't see myself spending 60 euro on this game right NOW. I will buy it when it's cheaper though. I'm still very curious about the game and i can imagine myself liking it.

By the way: some reactions in this htread are shocking. I know it's just people showing their true colours, but wow.. some scary minds in here.

What is really too bad is that I really didn't mind the game at E3. The combat was alright but I didn't think it was terrible. That demo is what sold me on it, but they apparently didn't execute a good product. Ugh, why couldn't this game have been great?

Yeah it just sounds like they had a vision for the game and just missed on it. By aiming for it and missing they instead fell into a bad product :/

Still, as funny as it is making fun of fanboys , it's critics laughing at the expense of creators.

RAD is getting lambasted for a misguided although artistically brilliant game, having their efforts antagonized (4/10) while lesser games get comparatively given a free pass.

It doesn't seem fair.
That's... That's what reviews are? No one is antagonizing them?

Until Dawn will get 1's and 2's then. :(

You know, I'm buying this as long as it runs. I don't mind that style of QTE. Playing the role of a student being chased by a psycho in the most 80s campy setting sounds excited. My wife can't wait for it!

And my 'no pre orders in 2015' rule saves me my first £40.

Bought both new consoles day 1 and I can't say I've really enjoyed an exclusive on either console yet.

Driveclub is actually a phenomenal game, one of the best racing titles of the last decade, and many critics just outright got it wrong and I could articulate why that was point by point. They were mad lazy reviewing Driveclub. It deserved to be critiqued for the online functionality issues, but other than that the foundation and content in-game was amazing for the simcade genre.

This doesn't seem to be a similar issue. There really does just seem to be like a profoundly mediocre product underneath all that pomp. Naughty Dog definitely has a competitor for most technically competent developer now, but at what cost did that come? Maybe the next Order will be as great a leap in quality as Uncharted 2 was to Uncharted 1.

I can't give a dev technical props if the achievement in visuals and art direction are not in service of the gameplay and story.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
nah, i doubt that, 8-9s mostly for bloodborne imho

and not this is not a fanboy opinion, don't have a ps4 and never played a souls game, just feels like a game reviewers will like

Reviewers aren't really about that imo. Bloodborne's been very up-front about what it's trying to be and if it accomplishes those goals it should do fine.

Hopefully so.
