Assassin's Creed Syndicate Review Thread

Markitron

Is currently staging a hunger strike outside Gearbox HQ while trying to hate them to death
Reviews are a bit all over the shop, didn't expect that.

I'm getting the impression that there is almost no future story in this one? Of all the things I hated about Unity, that was the worst one. It made the plot feel completely pointless, I hope that's not repeated in Syndicate.

Also this thread is boring without Crossing Eden.

It looking worse seems to be a victim of it dropping baked lighting and I guess they had to scale stuff back in order to secure a better framerate.

We can either get "okay" graphics and a stable framerate or funky framerate and good graphics this gen.

Order has insane graphics and smooth frame rate, same for DC, Forza and so on.

Many great looking games with rocky solid framerate.

Edited.

Game has 27 scores of 7 or higher (and 1 Recommended) versus 6 of 6 or lower in the OP
Basically averaging an 8

"These reviews are so divisive"
"Such a wide range of scores"
"The series is dead"
"The only honest reviews are the negative ones"

Very little

Again, not seeing how this looks worse than Unity. On PS4 it probably looks better at least. Draw distance isn't as bare bones at least:

Vinterbird: Not really true. Lots of games this gen look good and have pretty solid framerates. Now that W3 has been patched on PS4 it runs pretty well. Batman runs pretty well for the most part, and went it drops it has some insane stuff going on. Infamous, Order, etc, all run well and look excellent. QB on Xbox apparently runs well and looks amazing.

Just wait and play the game, pretty sure frame rate is crap and it's full of bugs, we all know how most reviews ignore those points we here are crazy about.

Maybe you should take your own advice before being pretty sure of the frame rate and bugs.

Just wait and play the game.

Downgrade in graphics is disappointing.

Yeah for me too.

I'm not a fan of the series, haven't played many games, but I really like the virtual tourism aspect of them, so great graphics and setting are a big part of the experience for me. Syndicate lacks in both for me.

That's why I'll get Unity when it drops to my price range, but will likely skip Syndicate altogether.

"Game feels too by-the-books"

"So much heart and soul!"

I know different opinions and all that jazz, but that's a pretty big difference to get from the same game.

The former is what comes to mind anytime I've played these games after 2. Well, maybe with more vitriol.

Are you saying this is an issue?

Burns is a very good reviewer who is able to convey his thoughts well - both written and via video.

I'm saying it's funny because I knew he disliked it from the podcast. I'm not saying it's an issue. I'm not saying it's wrong or he's wrong or I don't like Steve Burns or anything.

Interesting. Kind of the opposite of guitar hero live reviews. That game got good scores from all the sites I never heard of and 7's from ign/gs/gi.

Better than expected. Not sure why AAA devs cant design a good end boss battle as they have all been terrible recently.

I don't understand how this could get more than one 9/10 review. Like even if it isn't as broken as Unity its still the same old AC formula right?

Is more about lazy devs than anything else.

I think first party stuff is a very different thing. They have the luck of working on a single box to a set system spec.

Multiplatform is a totally different beast, and is a much larger workload.

Also calling developers lazy is such a ignorant thing to say. I guess you've never had to make a compromise during work? Had to cut a curner on a project or focus ressources in a different direction because there's only so much time and money available?

And some people like those games, so for them it's cool.

Jesus Christ...
The Order was like a giant tutorial compared to the complexity and dynamic nature of an open-world game like Syndicate. And Forza and DC are racing games, ffs. The fuck out of here with your shit posting.

These are some of the most divisive scores I've seen for a AAA game in a while. Can't wait to hear impressions from people here on Gaf.

Wow the Videogamer video on glitches is pretty hilarious. Can't believe we still have floating NPC's and ones that slide across the floor in pairs lmao.

At least it mostly seems like cute jank so far lol.

Also this thread is boring without Crossing Eden.

Nah it's all the better for it.

Dude crushes threads with his Yves personna.

At least we can all have a dialogue now.

There's a big difference between The Order and Syndicate and a world of difference between driving games and Syndicate. You really can't compare games like that since they've got vastly different workloads.

So glad it turned out well! Gonna grab it eventually.

Me too - it's easy to pile on Ubi for Unity, I'd hate to see the series continue in decline. Looks like this one will be somewhat polarizing, although who knows if that's due to the game itself or general distaste in the series in general.

I saw some posters mention the PCGames site reviewed the Xbox One/PS4 releases. What I'm really interested in is the differences between consoles and PC. I have an Xbox One and a capable PC with a R9 390, so I'd be interested in seeing what those two offer. Obviously the PC version would be preferred on the surface, but who knows if it's properly optimized, buggy, etc. It's been reported PS4 is at 1080p vertical resolution, wondering what the Xbox One version will end up being. The video on PCGames does seem to indicate there is some improvement in lighting and shading on the PS4 version.

Maybe the reviewer was playing with French dub? The lip sync looks off on all footage I seen.

Also seems the environment is reason for high ratings. Seems the story sucks.

Actually they mention the bad german voice sync and complain that unity looked better overall but still praise how fantastic London looks. No idea maybe they wanted to give it a higher score to provoke some controversy, maybe they feel like the story was good anyway (opinions 'n stuff).

I'll find out myself for 10-15 €; Q3 2016.

I liked AC 2... I dunno man something about this seems fishy.

I guess I'm fishy then.

I've enjoyed all the games. Not saying they're the best thing ever made in the world. But they've been solid entertainment for a week.

Some people like some games, others don't like them.

When did lazy devs become not a thing?

If you are developing a game with the levels of jank that Assassin's Creed games commonly have, and just figure "Eh, it's good enough" - lazy devs.

A studio like Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games would have people pulling their hair out over an NPC floating in the air. For Assassin's Creed developers it's just Tuesday.
