Assassin's Creed Syndicate Review Thread

Order has insane graphics and smooth frame rate, same for DC, Forza and so on.

Is more about lazy devs than anything else.

Many great looking games with rocky solid framerate.

I thought I had seen the end of the lazy devs thing, how can you compare those games to this too? Bizzare post dude

Maybe in cutscenes? No idea, just translated it rawley. Also not planning to buy this year's iteration tbh. PC Release is in November and FO4, Battlefront and the Bloodbrone DLC is enough for me.

Don't worry I wasn't taking issue with what you posted, just an observation of mine based on the footage I've seen. Granted I played AC: Unity on pc but this game looks worse and the faces and their animation aren't looking good imo.

To be honest, when looking back at several Ubisoft titles, their male leads couldn't be anymore generic. Jacob Frye could pretty much be Aiden Pierce for me.

Eurogamer sold me with this description:

"First things first, here are all the things Assassin's Creed doesn't have this year. There's no bolted on multiplayer mode or any co-op options. It doesn't have any connections to a broken web service. It doesn't require you to play a companion app to acquire everything in the game. It's like a human being actually sat down to design a game with the simple requirement that it felt fun, rather than it being a £50 experience designed by a committee to link up a web of interconnected transmedia nodes. It's a huge relief. Next, here are all the things Syndicate adds back to the series' sandbox - simple things such as picking up and hiding bodies, whistling to attract attention - as well as several new methods of traversal to reinvigorate the game's parkour gameplay."

That's what I want out of an AC game. Now I just need to watch some of the game to make sure, but I'm sold on it now.

When did lazy devs not become not a thing?

If you are developing a game with the levels of jank that Assassin's Creed games commonly have, and just figure "Eh, it's good enough" - lazy devs.

A studio like Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games would have people pulling their hair out over an NPC floating in the air. For Assassin's Creed developers it's just Tuesday.

It isn't the dev's decision to release the game. The publisher pushes it out the door whether it's polished or not. It's a yearly franchise, Uncharted and GTA are not.

I think I got all of the reviews posted so far...

Was kinda anticipating these scores from gameplay I've seen of a review copy and I'm happy that AC is back. It looks super fun to play and I loved toying with the hookshot when I played a little. Makes scaling buildings fun again.

If I missed any reviews, post em here and I'll see that they're added to the OP.

You lost me...

Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you, you could, you’ll do, you, you wants, you, you could do so, you , you’ll do, you could, you, you want, you want them, to do you so much, you could do anything?

When did not posting not bullshit on forums not become a thing not?

I'm not understanding you. I'm sorry for my typo, try the second, third or fourth sentences.

Reviews are a bit all over the shop, didn't expect that.

I'm getting the impression that there is almost no future story in this one? Of all the things I hated about Unity, that was the worst one. It made the plot feel completely pointless, I hope that's not repeated in Syndicate.

Also this thread is boring without Crossing Eden.

I actually loved Unity, and one of the things that made me really enjoy it was the lack of bullshit hamfisted forced-in dead-end "future story".

Still waiting until Syndicate is cheap on PC first.

GameSpot said this is the closest the series has ever gotten to replicating the greatness of Assassin's Creed II.

Gonna be very honest. If I hadn't had the bugs...I am not sure I would argue against this too much.
To me it was that enjoyable. Again aside from the bugs and many of those seem very patchable.

Yes.

Exclusive vs multiplat. Open world vs narrower focus. The types of gameplay isn't even comparable.

Calling the devs lazy is just insulting.

Lazy probably isn't the right word, but Ubi has a massive team working on this. Releasing another game in the franchise with lots of bugs after the last fiasco is...shoddy...very shoddy.

A lower metascore than AC3 and 4 which were shit imo.

future setting in this game also doesn't appeal to me. God I miss AC1 and AC2 settings.

Because that is likely not the development staff's fault. They are under a strict deadline to release these things yearly, and that is all down to the publisher. These games have relatively large scope, yet they get pumped out at a very rapid pace leading to rushed and ultimately unpolished games..

It appears my comment in the Kotaku "misconceptions about game devs" thread was way off :/

Most of these seem pretty obvious and any rational thinking person would already know all this.

How prevalent are the bugs? Were you able to download the two patches?

Which is odd, because their male villains in Far Cry (3+4) seem to have some sort of personality. Maybe they should design a templar story focused AC game where we play on the misunderstood side.

serious?

if devs where the only hand in the pot maybe... but it takes a whole team to get these out

i'm not sure we can put all on them man

It's nothing to do with laziness. Games are incredibly complicated, they have bugs. AC is on an insanely tight release schedule and Ubisoft doesn't care whether the game is actually finished when release date comes around. It's greed and idiot consumers buying the same broken game every year making it profitable.

Patched up and ya the bugs were of two types. Some smaller prevalent ones with sound dropping, or AI having issues at various times, spawning problems as well.
Then a couple missions had major ones(put some footage in my review). These stopped a couple missions in their tracks completely resulting in 1 mission being redone 6 times before I could basically cheat it to get by. That was the worst one FYI.

That being said I sat back a couple hours to think hard on it before coming to the Wait for A Sale. The game behind those bugs is rock friggen solid. I just can't suggest a title with some of the issues it had.

Honestly if I hadn't had those bugs this would have been one of my Top 2 AC games easily. The duel protagonists, the setting reminded me at times of Gangs of New York, the acting was spot on, and the gameplay loop is fantastic.

A studio like Rockstar Games and Naughty Dog also has three times the time to develope their games.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Holy shit. Game devs sure are lazy working 40 hour weeks (and way longer during crunch). Fuck me.

Why are you making the assumption that bugs are left in because the devs don't care? They very likely do care and would fix them if they were given the time and resources.

Ah geez. I have a $15 off coupon, so it seems enticing for $45.00, especially if it's like ACII.

Ugh, fuck off with this insulting crap.
As much as I lament Ubisoft for a variety of things, the LAST thing you can do is call them lazy.

They put out a completely new, vast open world with 30+ hours of gameplay a year, and it's lazy because they prioritized performance over visuals after last year's performance was awful?

No. Stop with that shit.

OT: Pretty damn good review scores. I think I'll give it a shot this year.

the review scores are all over the place. I still haven't played Unity yet so i'll get this when it's cheap.

I checked out of the AC franchise a long time ago, but it's interesting to see the wide range of review scores on this one. I guess there are just some people that they're never going to win back.

Put a camera inside Ubi dev headquarters and I highly doubt you would see ay kind of laziness around. More like rigid unchangeable schedules. Not justifying buggy games though.

So the game reviews reasonably well and people get mad.

I don't understand, do people on here not want good games or something?

Or would you all rather bitch about bad games?

Pathetic.

they likely have a very strict deadline which they have to abide by. i'm sure more time would allow them to iron things out. How many devs are in charge of this series? Hopefully they get at least 2 years to develop

That's a little harsh. Some people just genuinely like the games..

I like what I've read for the most part. I'll see how I feel about dropping 60 bones later tonight, otherwise I can wait until the end of November/early December. The $35 sale all AC games have ever had is usually right around then.

Lazy no. The question you should be asking, is when it got ok for publishers to rush games out like this, and give developer teams stupid deadlines that can never realistically be met, without it being a buggy mess.

and that became ok when people kept buying the games anyway, in case you are wondering.

you mean a twitter account meant to promote the game isnt saying "look at our bad reviews too!"

i am shocked to the very core
There were many 8/10 reviews, which is why highlighting only 2 reviews that make your game look awesome is funny to me. It is not much better than Destiny promoting BioGamerGirl.

Publishers pushing things unfinished out the door sounds more likely than some lazy people sitting around going "eh, it doesn't fuck up most of the time so we good, push it through." It's beyond stupid to call a group of people dedicated to a thing for so long, lazy. Jesus.

It's good to see an improvement over the shit show that was Unity but I'm not rushing out to grab a copy, I'll pick it up when it's much cheaper and I'm not playing better games.
