Assassin's Creed Syndicate Review Thread

The narrative of the "buggy mess" now extends to those who never played it. It really wasn't that bad. Some annoying glitches, but perfectly playable- though I liked the game a lot, but didn't like the Ezio games so my opinions sucks I guess :(

Still, Fallout New Vegas was a buggy mess on launch day. Batman Arkham Knight on PC was an unplayable buggy mess. Unity wasn't close to either of those.

You know your experiences don't inform the experiences everybody else had, right?

Unity, at launch, wouldn't even start for me. It hung at "Please wait" on the main menu.

What platform? I've mentioned before I was on consoles. Ubi PC ports are a whole different matter- criticism of those is perfectly valid.

Saw your article- fair enough. Not sure how some would get hit so hard while others didn't.

I actually loved Unity, and one of the things that made me really enjoy it was the lack of bullshit hamfisted forced-in dead-end "future story".

Still waiting until Syndicate is cheap on PC first.

That would be all well and good if they removed it completely, but they didn't. They wanted you to look for this incredibly important artifact for no reason whatsoever, and the story was framed and interrupted with the future characters. The story had no context whasoever, they clearly don't know what to do with the future story after they decided to stretch the series' plot after AC3's ending.

Some of the posts here are outright embarrassing.

I was a long time AC fan (since AC1) but I had enough after Unity.
Doesn't mean I'll barge here and spew vitriol about paid reviews and other nonsense.
smh...

Ya. The fact this booted up for me on console was one of the WORST successes I ever had lol. It was a travesty. I have rarely had that many bug reports back to a PR contact in my life. After the 7th console crash my notes no longer say what I was doing they just say "Again, again, again, again." LOL
Edit: Nope scratch that. It was the largest list ever.

Unity's performance issues made me feel ripped off for the first time in 10 years (when it comes to games). Releasing games that slow on console should be a crime. Felt like the fps was in the 20's constantly.

I will watch closely how this one "performs" before even thinking about getting it :(

So criticism of a platform you haven't even played is okay?

I played Unity on Xbox One. It was a mess at launch. After finally getting the game to boot I fell through the world in the opening mission, for example. Then I tried to open a chest, but it was tied to the companion mobile App which didn't work (and never worked - they since removed the requirement from the game).

Cannot fucking believe how many people here on Gaf are STILL coming up with conspiracy theories and moneyhats. Y'all are a fucking embarrassment. Unless you have some evidence, shut the fuck up. People have different opinions, deal with it.

I'm really impressed that Ubisoft is able to release a new game every year since 2009 and still keep the series relevent.

Congrats to the team on launching their game.

Looking forward to playing this after I finish up Unity.

Reviews are all over the place. Not that I expect an AC game to be good or anything but great effort by Québec city studios. I like the setting at least!

I forgot about falling through the world.
Luckily though this game does have a good deal of bugs I never fell through the world.

Not looking to get in an argument- I've conceded your point. I have played Ubi PC ports though- I don't anymore. Didn't realize there was such variance in issues based on platform though. Genuinely did not. My mistake.

The App malarkey was infuriating though. I think the game became much better when they removed all of that nonsense. Seems like they learned at least.

It's more like people close to UbiSoft like the game.
Normal folks don't like the game.

I'm a normal guy, so I'll wait for $20.

This is utter garbage and completely embarrassing for yourself.

Normal people don't like Assassin's Creed games? Is that why every entry sells millions? Okay.

The person who reviewed syndicate is not the same as the one who reviewed black flag and unity

That's not what I was getting at. I'm saying strictly the score system. The 1-10. If Unity (which was a complete mess on launch) is 7.8 (good) and Syndicate is 8.2 (great) -- and Syndicate sounds like a much better game -- then the scoring system is busted. In other words, if you're going to use a score system, there should be a system in place that scores them properly to give you a 7.8 or 8.2 instead of just having a reviewer pick it.

Say behind the scenes, you have a formula for inputting your # for graphics, sounds, music, gameplay, story, bugs, et cetera. That calculates the score for you instead of just handing out a score. I just think that would be better than a generic number being slapped on a score.

I'm not arguing that Syndicate is a bad game. I have no idea since I don't have it or have played it. Outside of Brotherhood, I own all these games anyway so it's not like I want to see AC fail. I'm just commenting on consistency of review scores.

And I might be completely wrong, which I apologize in advance. These are jsut the opinions of one Gaffer, reviewer, and gamer.

Preach, brother, preach!

AssCreed's bringing out the crazies. Shit like this gives GAF a bad name.

I like AC games
I'm going to buy Syndicate on PC
I may even buy Unity soon and Chronicles India when it comes out

Interesting enough in all my time with the game, hardly ran into any bugs, let alone any major ones. Most were simple small visual things. Have yet to have the game freeze or hardlock on me either.

A little suprised by the scores, doesn't really change much for me petsonally though. Still sounds and looks too much like the previous games. Might get it on some kind of super sale down the line.

So I read a bunch of the Syndicate reviews and it sounds great. Happy it's fully single player and all the nonsense around mobile apps and such is gone, too.

Statistically, something is not right here. That is not an opinion.

I'm not sure I have a GIF to cover the 'uhm' value.

I used to trust Gamespot's reviews but after MGSV got a 10/10.... not so much anymore.

Still though the reviews for this are surprisingly good. I've really only enjoyed Black Flag but I may give this a shot once it's out on PC!

I think the whole GiantBomb being created soured me on Gamespot as a whole.
GamesRadar is my favorite site, and with an 8/10 it seems like a good game.

You people take these posts way too seriously.

God, some of the posts in this thread have been outright hysterical. Review publications being money-hatting shills, the game having bugs equating to lazy devs, all backed up with comparisons that are essentially comparing apples to oranges...amazing lmao.

9/10's can't melt steel beams

ayy

OT: Would it seriously kill Ubisoft('s sales) to actually allow for an AC game that didn't have a roughly one-year period development period. With all the talk in the reviews about how this game is very by-the-numbers in content, it seems the game could had used a fair amount of more time in the oven concerning its game design (and bugs too, though from the looks of things Syndicate is nowhere near as bad as Unity in terms of performance). Even if the game is generally getting a moderately okay reception.

For the record, I haven't played any AC games (I think I played a bit of either AC I or AC II years ago); I'm just making an observation based on the reviews and critical reception of other titles.
