Mindless is the right word to describe the game. If you want to try a LP, try LP1. I didn't like it too much, but hell, it's way better than this.

Mindless is going too far, no offense.

It's a straight forward TPS with simple mechanics; dodge and shoot, use cover if it is available.

I just read the thing about the sale policy and I don't know exactly how I should feel about it.
Maybe it'll be better for exposure for the developers.
I get the impression it'll be underwhelming as far as I'm concerned though. Sure, not having to stay up at night to wait for a flash update is better for my health but it also takes away from the excitement and hope that the game I might want will end up with the discount % that would push me to grab it.

A static discount also doesn't strike me as something that will push bigger and newer games to have a competitive discount all sale long. Before, they only had to keep it for a couple days, which also helps to drive demand both when they're on the special discount as well as right after. I don't see why a publisher would debut with a 66% or 75% off all sale long though. Maybe they'll surprise me and I'll see Watch Dogs debut at 75%/80% off for the package with all the stuff, I know I'll keep hope.

I'm also not sure who cares about which items are featured on the main page if all that's doing is giving them exposure. You go to the store once, you browse your wishlist, you browse the sale list, you search for those hot titles or niche games and you're done. The only real reason to come back would be to pick those games you didn't have the money for or were undecided about at the start. But maybe I'm wrong and a static sale will generate just as much if not more excitement and affluence to the main page of the store.

The only real, tangible improvement I can see here is that we won't get price mistakes, at least not past the first day. I don't know about you, but I hated buying stuff at 90% off from time to time.

Happy Birthday Winter!

Welp. might have to buy either Nvidia Pascal or Volta when one of them comes out. AC Syndicate is apparently not able to be played at 1080p because my card doesn't have 4 GB, only a bit over 3 GB VRAM.

Well, now I can get the feel of 1280x720 at least.

I'm really gonna miss those dailies, doubt we're ever going to get discounts that steep in this sale. One things for sure I certainly wont spend much time on the store anymore, I'll probably just check the discounts in my wishlist, casually look for any hidden gems outside of that and then ignore the store for the rest of the sale.

I'm likely going to checking the store less then I would normally outside of the sale period, which seems crazy to me. At least I'll save money on impulse buys.

Are you sure? The RPS guys tested it with a 960 and it ran pretty well for a budget card. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/11/18/assassins-creed-syndicate-pc-performance/

Not on ultra settings, obviously.

Well that's odd because I was running Syndicate at 3840x2160, granted only post AA but both HBAO+ Ultra and PCSS enabled with high texture settings and not too much over 4gb VRAM requested. At 1920x1080 is was in and around 3 and a half but that was just in the starting area, might be a bit different in the open world.

One thing though is the bloody XP boost that comes with the season pass doesn't have a separate app that you can disable. Granted it's not as bad as the time saver packs Rogue came with but at least you could disable them individually if you didn't want the boost.

Eh, so mindless, you don't need to put too much energy to play it, if you are playing on Easy. On Hard enemies are just bullet sponges.

Why is everyone judging the upcoming Steam sales before seeing it? Maybe there will be something that's even better than flash and dailies

Ah I see.

Sad to see you didn't enjoy it, but what other games are available in your backlog you think of playing?

I will continue to play LP3, for now.
Games I have on my hdd are:

-Read Only Memories (but I see devs are adding stuff with every patch, so I want to wait a bit before playing it)
-Fallout 2
-Talos Principle
-Sigils of Elohim (but at the moment I don't want to play a puzzle).

On PS3 I have:

-God Hand
-Persona 3
-Suikoden 1-3

Nice list, I hadn't noticed a new patch for ROM, but I'm planning on playing it eventually once I clear up a few games.
I suggest playing Talos Principle next.

Will be adding a +1 to myself in a little over an hour or whatever date is listed as my join date on my profile (I joined GAF on my birthday, haha). Have a slice of cake~

So it is the 19th for me after all :v

Happy birthday~

This is probably going to give someone a seizure but here we go, the many faces of Winter Demons.

And yes I know it's quick and dirty but this was an impulse thing to pass the time whilst I was waiting on a slow arse FTP upload that wasn't as slow as I thought it was.
This is amazing haha

I'll be bummed if it means that the sales aren't as good as previous years...but I suppose my wallet will thank me in the long run.

Eh, puzzle games require a good effort, dunno if I'm in the mood right now.

That's what I felt when I heard about the game, eventually I said fuck it and got the game.
I was pleased that it had 3rd person view mode and I enjoyed what I PLAYEd of it. If I manage to solve a puzzle all by myself, it gives one that Banderas.gif feel :3
Just aim to kick a puzzle's ass instead of worrying about the difficulty of the puzzles XP

Talos Principle is a really fantastic game with a surprisingly good narrative. But if you arent in the mood to puzzle there is nothing you can do, the latter puzzles of the game can get pretty insane, especially if you're searching for the stars.

Certainly not a game you can play if you're in the mood for Netflix and Chill.

Talos Principle is great until it asks you to break its rules without saying that you can break said rules.
I'm talking mostly stars, which require doing some obscure shit (like, drop hundreds of meters from this exact ledge or use an object from one puzzle area to affect other puzzle area), but some of the main puzzles are guilty of that as well (the one that required putting boxes onto mines was just mean).

I find that the reason behind that falls within the themes of the game's narrative.
A good puzzle game is one that also allows you to break its rules IMO.

Honestly I play a puzzle game and complete what I can. What I can't beat I just look up on the net then proceed to beat what puzzles I can.

Publisher discounting more and equal than they would on a daily but for 2 weeks instead.

That.isn't.happening.

Gonna miss the days of Publisher games going for more than 75% off.
But Steam peeps will eat it up :V

So I've been playing this dungeon-crawler called The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians. It just came out a couple weeks ago.

This is a dungeon-crawler that doesn't look all that dissimilar to Legend of Grimrock. However, this game puts more of an emphasis on combat. There's some light puzzle-solving, but nothing overbearing.

The real-time with pausing Combat is handled in a Tank/Healer/Damage Dealer fashion. There are a number of classes to use, and you're given some freedom to try various skills (you even get a re-roll every 4 experience levels if things aren't working out). You can also do a little moving around to get away from a few attacks, but it's not exploitable like LoG. I've fought four bosses so far, and they all have some special abilities to look out for.

TFotDG has a pretty extensive selection of difficulties. You're free to change it at any time, and can even further customize it by raising/lowering monster's HP/damage. Theoretically, you can create any class combination you like (even four damage-dealers) and balance the difficulty until things are manageable. There are about 20 floors and they each take -/+ an hour to complete. There's a map editor as well.

I've been really impressed with this game thus far. There's a surprising lack of dungeon-crawlers on Steam, so it's nice to have a quality title to fill the void.

It just dawned on me... Autumn Sale change-up means 10 days without any daily deals.

Gaben help the newly released games on Steam.
Seriously a pub really needs to at least consider a 10% discount if your dang game is releasing during a sale.

I finally managed to install Riddick in italian. To do so, you need to select the language with a launcher, this is why when launching the game I had no options to do so.

Anyway the game still looks great, I played Butcher Bay but in Dark Athena version there's like a remastered of it, so I think I'll play it again, it was great.

Funny thing: the game is 6 GB, I tried to download it via Galaxy and the size was 11 gb, so I dropped the client and downloaded it from GOG as usual.

Gaming side, gaming side never changes. From crazy peeps that can't look beyond competition and their platform being the best to crackers threads about the competencies of certain publishers based solely on their geographically location. Either I'm getting too old for this shit or standards have slipped more quickly than I thought.

Still I guess the Sale thread will be a barrle of laughs. Right guys? Guys... Yeah... :(

Wait, am I reading this right? Did Valve kill Steam
daily
sales? :(

I mean I don't mind the removal of flash sales, I don't want to check 5 times a day including in the middle of the night to see if there's something of interest or if I need to vote for a useless card.
However, also removing dailies? I imagine
/fear
that means less deep discounts (over 75%). Also I'd just pick up everything I wanted in the first hour of the sale and be done with it. No point having it go on for 10 more days. Or am I misunderstanding this?

Sorry if I'm bringing this up for nth time. :p

edit: oh I see there's a whole thread dedicated to this, must have skipped over that.

I'm having a tough time reading anything about Battlefront. There's a segment of people in those threads that say criticizing the game is fine, but then become super passive aggressive about it in later posts. So many people come off as insincere.

I think what it meant was that the games on sale won't have dailies for the duration of the sales.

Oh god it just occurred to me
This new format for Steam sales will mean there'll always be someone asking about a game even if it is $0.99-$4.99

Oh man, you mentioning Origin made me remember to go to origin to get free Jade empire because it wasn't letting me when it was first offered.

But its gone now. Fuck.

It was prematurely announced. It never officially went live, but is supposed to soon(?) in two or three weeks(?)

Either way, you haven't missed it.

And the change in Steam dailies flat out blows. Besides lessening the chances of pricing errors now that they remain flat, the change totally ruins the major draw of Steam sales for me: impulse buys.

I'd spend holidays seeing extended family, wrapping up conversations around sale switch time so I can scope things out. Games that weren't on my radar or games I really had no interest in would get scooped up just because of the shiny discount number and that ticking timer.

Now, it'll be just like the Halloween sale was this year. Look at in a list format. Check my wishlist. Never look at it again.

Let's be positive: You will be actually saving money by not buying games.

BUT THEN HOW WILL WE GET OUR +1S?!
THIS ISN'T ABOUT SAVING MONEY, IT'S ABOUT GETTING ISH OUT OF THE DANG STEAM SALES, IT'S BEEN A TRADITION OF THIS FORUMS FOR GENERATIONS!

Monooboe

If Valve really does remove dailies they really have to come up with some really addictive meta game during the sale, they have to do something to bring in people several times a day.
