Giant Bomb #24 | In the beginning...

Is Civ VI worth €60? How does it compare to Civ V?

Answer me these questions and I may help you with the space time continuum

It's like if Civ V had a worse UI, a cuter art style, WAY TOO AGGRESSIVE AND ENDLESSLY RESPAWNING BARBARIANS LIKE OMFG LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY, and enemy AI that habitually forgets to upgrade their units so they're still using the first warrior units in 1600 AD.

Sounds harsh, I'm enjoying it, but so far I don't think it's better, necessarily. I'd wait a bit if you don't need more Civ in your life, like, right now, but if you do, it seems totally fine, but I'm a pretty casual Civ player so ymmv.

Hard to say. I only spent 4 hours with Civ VI so far. It's weird with those games cause it seems like not much has changed. They changed a few little things, but those little things have huuuuuuge consequences. For example, your workers can now only build 3 buildings, then they disappear. Doesn't sound like much but it totally changes the game (especially the early game).
It seems fantastic though. I can't even begin to describe how much I enjoy this game. But again, I only spent 4 hours with it so I haven't even finished one game. (I tend to restart a lot) So i'm still in the early game.
Fuck Barbarians though. They seem much tougher. On my first game ever I got overrun by a force of 4 barbarian units 20 turns in. Fuck them. I hate them. I feel like the early game is much slower since your workers disappear every now and then and you have to build more warriors to keep those barbarians from destroying my mines GOD DAMMIT YOU STUPID BARBARIAN GO AWAY I HATE YOU

Also Battlefield 1: I rode a horse. Somebody shot at me. I got off the horse. My horse kept running and ran the dude over. Game of the Year.

I expect Civ VI will go just like Civ IV and V, which is to say people will decide that the base game is a dumbed-down imitation of its predecessor, and then two expansions later everyone will declare that it is the best Civ ever made.

The Civ cycle is as follows:
1. Game comes out
2. People say it's the best Civ ever
3. Two weeks pass
4. People say it's the worst Civ ever and should be a console game for babies
5. Expansions come out
6. People say it's the best Civ ever

It's probably the most completely Civ at launch ever.

I kind of want to check out BF1 weirdly enough but I still have way too much Legion, Mafia, Deus Ex, Overwatch and other shit to play

Every time I think about buying a CIV game I think "maybe I should buy the older game + all DLC instead" and I think about it for a while.

And then I never buy a Civ game.

And then I never buy a Civ game.

I mean that's not a terrible strategy. I played Civ V for 50 hours then didn't touch it until two expansion packs later and played it for another 100 hours.

Civ Expansion packs are pretty dang good.

I dislike how people 'take away' from Civ 6 just because of how it looks

Outside of the first few Civ games, Civ has never been an ultra realistic series, so the new art style helps it more than detracts from it, to be fair.

The Wii's most underrated feature is all the great soundtracks for games on it that people don't really talk about. Like Let's Tap or Sonic Colors.

Fantastic track.

The lyrics read like they have been lifted from the opening theme from an anime though...

Looking at the video's information section, it seems Leonardo DaVinci himself wrote the lyrics (obviously a looooong time ago). That's cool. Was DaVinci an anime fan? That's the real question we must answer.

So I rewatched Sunshine last night, what a great fucking movie. Only thing that kinda drags it down is the third act, it felt unnecessary.

Great musical score by John Murphy too.

whatever man baba yetu is just the lord's prayer which is basically "Yo god you're so sweet, you're so sweet you gave us this, your name is rad and please protect us, yo."

Perfection.

YES. Sunshine is like top 5 sci-fi film of all time, I also dislike the third act however everything else is so strong.
