Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review thread

If the Japanese version unlocks at 4pm UK time (midnight japan time) then I might text my kids to redeem the code on the eshop before I get home.

Although I guess it doesn't download while you're playing a game? (They'll be on Zelda as soon as they get home from school)

Hmmm... probably a silly question but will the game be the Japanese version? Or does it work like the Xbox one store and be in English no matter which region store you buy from?

With Zelda, I bought a Japanese copy, played on a Japanese switch, and was still able to play in English because that was my system language. I assume it's the same for MK.

Anyone know what time games go up on the JP store? Is it midnight Japan time?

Not 100% sure but I think Japan has first party titles up digitally at midnight. Could be wrong in this one.

Japanese version is the worldwide version, it has Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Russian languages.
Most Switch digital games are just 1 version for the whole world, the language changes according to the language of your system.

What's crazy as well is how Nintendo handhelds didn't really jump all that much in resolution until now. It's like, damn.

No, we'll be using Discord for that though. Just quote to see the link:

Thats ridiculous. This isn't pre AOL days.

No way this game should have these high scores for lacking such a basic feature. Its 2017 and you can't talk to people in a multiplayer centric game like mario kart.

crazy that you guys are buying this physically

dis shit is never leaving my Switch

I get 20% off for pre-ordering it with Amazon Prime and another 5% Amazon credit back for ordering it with my Amazon credit card.

Plus if I went all digital with the Switch I would have to buy a big micro-sd card. It's just not worth it going digital for Switch retail games.

Thanks for the replies. Might just get the digital Japanese version then.

I shouldn't be playing MK7 in anticipation of the digital release... just getting frustrated, haha. Hoping they made firing things backwards a bit easier, could just be the circle pad but too often do the things go forward and back in my face.

Also red shells swerving back to lock onto myself makes me frown...

So close now!

Can you activate it per user? I'd like to play eothojt it myself but my cousin will love this. Is that possible?

One would assume it's like the Wii U version where the pause menu shows both controllers and they can activate their own control scheme as they wish.

To be fair, most of the talking would be annoying screaming. Mario Kart doesn't lend itself well to calm discussion.

(Also whenever I play online on my XB1, nobody is talking.)

But, yes, having said that, I do want to talk to my friends. Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U allowed us to in the lobbies, this one doesn't even have that. It's actually a step back.

I really don't mind switching cartridges when I want to play since it takes all of thirty seconds to grab my game case and change. Only retail Nintendo title I've bought digitally is AC:NL and I still wouldn't mind if I had it physically.

I switch between games a lot though. Still not done with Zelda, so I'll likely pop MK out when I'm ready to finish exploring the map in that game. Then, when I wanna play some matches in MK, I'll swap.

Only thing that i'm not too fond of is having all the Cups unlocked from the start :(

Sucks the fun out of playing SP a bit

I just raised a ticket with ST asking what's what. I'll update here if they get back to me.

Edit: they got back to me:

Laughably vague :D

Edit 2: I politely pressed a little further

9AM??

Well alright. I was hoping for earlier. Still, I'll bring my Switch into work with me and hopefully I can download it over the network there.

6GB download though, right?

I agree with this. Unlocking is an important part of single-player progression. I'll still end up going "in order", but it won't be as satisfying.

I think making the cups available but the parts unlockable is the perfect balance. Playing through 50 and 100 was honestly painful for me because of the speed. But unlocking parts with coins feels very rewarding. I would not have minded a chunk of the characters being unlockable, but it'll give me a decent sense of progression just unlocking more parts.

Is this all yours? Regardless... amazing!

We've come a long way :)

Nope, taken from twitter. How dare you compare me to those neon joycon owners.

I hope we get weights for the new characters pretty quickly. The Inklings are going to be picked like crazy regardless.

Bloody Nintendo apparantly only received my joycons on Tuesday. So no chance I'll get them back by the weekend. Still have a pro controller but that means single player only until I get my joycons back

Why would you play through 50 and 100cc in mk8 i went straight to 150. All the stars i got at 150cc also appeared on 100 and 50cc
