Can't believe they didn't kiss goddamnit. Ymir slathered her love in all kinda saliva and Eren couldn't spare so much as a sloppy smooch for Mikasa.

Rude boy.

I'm not sure I get why people think that monkey titan is Eren's dad. Is it because Eren's father disappeared and monkey titan is really the only revealed character that we don't really know anything about?

Both wear circular glasses. P easy tbh. Also the way that whole thing was framed was Eren gazing out across the horizon and Papa Jaeger acting all knowing.

episode 1: Eren's dad, a man with circular glasses, seemingly reveals he knows all the secrets about the titans, which is kept is the basement.

episode 27? 28?: we see the Beast Titan can apparently control the titans

episode 37: we learn Eren can apparently control the titans, and then a man wearing circular glasses is shown seemingly controlling the beast titan.

This season was pretty good. Great ending. Eren you goddamn asshole. You're suppose to kiss her! But hurray for Season 3 in 2018.

He is (and so was the Beast Titan itself).

Ah, so that means the Beast Titan's shifter is...

On a serious note,
I just love the multitude of levels this episode has, as in -as a manga reader- I can say there was a lot more happening here than meets the eye. That's all I'm saying! See ya!

Eren the kinda dude that has all hot chicks over him but wants to focus on becoming a better basketball player.. at least that would be his character in sports shonen :S

Eren is at his best when he's completely batshit about killing titans.
I really enjoy his psychotic rage, don't know what's wrong with me lol.. would find interesting AF if the dude turns into the main villain at the end.

I really liked this season overall, specifically the pacing and how they animated the fight scenes (Eren vs. Armored titan ended up looking way better than I thought it would be). At first I was worried about the animation quality compared to the first season, but I would argue it was even better than the first season during some scenes. Love the little things they added just to make characters (such as Historia) stand out more.

My only cons would be the CGI Colossal Titan (it didn't look THAT bad, but come on, it looked way better in the first season) and the lack of varied music. Don't get me wrong, I freaking love the new tracks, but there will only a handful of them and they were repeated over and over again throughout the season. It doesn't help that 75% of the second season soundtrack is slightly altered music from the first season.

Hannes had been waving his own death flag so hard, though. There was a previous episode where he was all, "I'll get Eren back, even if it costs me my life." And here he is all confident and smiling about how he'll get revenge for their mom (putting on a brave face, but still).

you guys

It would have been a little distasteful is they started making out while their childhood father figure guy was being munched on.

Mikasa was up for it, though. Obviously, their emotions were out of whack and she thought that this was the end.

Relatedly, I like this shot of the three grieving:

y'think?

Cuz Hannes felt more like a familiar face to them, the good for nothing drunkard soldier that they come across on their daily jaunts into the marketplace.

He was powerless except for the carrying of Eren and Mikasa away due to how woefully under-prepared the Garrison division soldiers were, having been so used to that period of peace.

Now that Hannes finally got some backbone, he unfortunately got captured and eaten by the same old titan that he was running away from previously.

Eren had a combined mixture of laughter+grieving going on with that laugh of his, cuz it felt like though he lamented Hannes' death, a tiny part of Eren, somewhere in his body, still blamed Hannes for taking Eren away from his mother, and not being able to do the job that he was supposed to at that time, since Hannes was the only deterrence between the titan and his mother from then.

Part of me when reading/viewing the anime felt like Hannes was going for his redemption, but in the end he still failed, so part of Eren was probably going, "dammit Hannes, you ARE useless afterall, just like you were back then! Nothing have changed, both of us are still as powerless as we were back then, just that you went and got yourself killed this time round!"

From what we've seen I get the impression that monkey titan is an enemy of humanity (one that doesn't know what maneuver gear is but was intrigued enough by it to take it with him). I get the impression that Eren's father is not an enemy of humanity. Eren did say that his father had been acting weird since his mother died but if he really didn't want humanity to have a chance then why facilitate Eren getting titan power? But of course you never know.

We don't know either of Eren's parents names.

Does monkey titan or whoever is inside of it have telescope vision? Man is sitting all the way out on wall maria talking about "not yet" like he can see inside Eren's room or something.
Given Ymir's backstory, I think that Eren was only meant to turn into a regular Titan with the serum but if it's anything like Ymir, then Eren had to have eaten a shifter to become a shifter. So my theory is that basically Eren's dad was either trying to give his son eternal life as a Titan or he wanted to make his son into a mindless weapon against humanity. In both cases, I am not sure Eren's dad is a good guy, in the strict sense. So being the beast titan isn't too far-fetched.

i think hannes redeemed himself because last time he said he lacked the courage after he rescued eren, but now he haddthe courage and went at it at it. unfortunately for him, he was still eaten

Damn good finale, but I'm curious, how did Riener know that Eren could control Titans? If he knew he could, what was the point of restraining him earlier when he could have just freaked out and done the control thing while they were in the trees?

They guessed he might be the coordinate but they never were sure. They had to wait and see until he first used his powers to know.

Also where the hell was Levi all season? He was the main reason I kept watching this show and all they had him do was talk. Severely disappointed

He was severely hurt in the Annie fight when he saved Mikasa.

You walk into a life-or-death fight with an ankle sprain and tell me it ain't shit.

The crazy thing is this season took place over like five days of realtime.

But Beast Titan had no idea what 3DMG was. Doesn't make sense that Eren's dad wouldn't know what it was since he was a doctor in a town that had regular scouting soldiers stopping by after their missions.

People seem to be forgetting this. Beast Titans isn't all knowing and the glasses bit is real weak. Point 3 is solid though.

I know it is going to be like this where Eren titan control power seems like it was triggerred by Mikasa cry ( aka thr power of love ) or because Hannes herrible death. But actully it is not....

It's not like anyone in Trost ever say the 3DMG in action tho. Any Scouts passing through were on horseback, and engineer corps doesn't use them. Seems a reasonable thing to not notice during peacetime.

Also Erren's dad isn't blonde, or fully ripped like the guy that is Beast Titan (plus the voice was different too) let alone he seemed younger.

when you saw Papa Jaga shirtless?

Never but i guess we would if he had that kind of body lol.

Jokes aside, there is no chance he is Beast Titan. I don't know why people keep discussing this when all points are leading to a no.
- Different voice
- Different body structure
- Different hair color
- Different motives
- Has glasses tho. OMG it's Erren's dad!

Didn't watch this season but I watched the season finale with my brother. Seems like they ended this a little before where I stopped reading the manga, so I may watch the next season.

It sure looks nice.

if it's not Eren's dad, then the animators drawing attention to the glasses in that shot was there solely to deceive the audience.
or those are his glasses, and the guy wearing them maybe like... captured Eren's dad, utilized the information he held to turn into the the beast titan, and then... took his glasses for some reason?
i dunno. I'll be thinking about it till season 3 starts

Considering the Garrison have them and use them in episode one, Eren's dad not knowing what 3DMG is is super unbelievable and a huge stretch.

Why do you assume there his glasses? It's a pair of circular glasses, not really super uncommon. As for drawing attention to the glasses, it's a common trope in anime: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AdjustingYourGlasses

Just seems weird that most of this theory is backed by super flimsy evidence like having similar pairs of glasses.

I had posted a crackpot theory that Eren's dad was the beast titan earlier in the season, so a small part of me wants it to be true just for the street cred.

Seriously, though, after the last episode, I don't think Eren's dad is the beast titan. The man looked a little like Eren's dad, but as others have pointed out, there are clearly visible differences. And sure, it's possible that Eren's dad changed his hair color and got buff, but that would be silly storytelling. "Ohoho, the beast titan looks kind of like a character you know. But wait! He actually is that character and changed his appearance! Ohoho we really got you!"

Maybe the beast titan is Eren's evil uncle? The Scar to Eren's dad's Mufasa, if you will.

Edit: Another problem with the idea of Eren's dad being the beast titan, aside from the physical differences and its lack of knowledge of 3D manuever gear, is that it would be a really weird narrative choice. So far, Eren has been motivated entirely by his love for his family and friends, and everything we've seen of his dad has portrayed him as a kind and benevolent presence. Having the dad turn into a sadistic, torturing evil monkey just seems like a bridge too far for this show, and it would have to spend a disproportionate amount of time explaining how the hell that happened and then resolving Eren's newly appeared daddy issues.

That shot looked just like that classic 'Gendo Glasses' shot that has plagued anime since Envangelion:

It is the 'cool' way to draw characters with glasses.

Well, it was certainly a step up from the manga chapter(s). Poor Hannes.

Also, it's good to hear that S3 is gonna be about 25 episodes long, for various reasons. While I don't want to get into spoilers, I think mentioning this will be more helpful than harmful - people might want to keep their expectations a bit lower for
the first half of
S3, mainly for
content reasons rather than quality
, IMO. Just in case some people get too hyped.

from almost forgetting about the series to low expectations of season 2, what a great season and fitting end.

well see you guys in 2020

Let's not forget that Berthold and Reiner seemed to know who the Beast Titan was when they were attacked at the tower. Or at least they looked awfully excited about his presence. I don't find it plausible that Eren's father is the beast because surely Reiner would have been certain that Eren is the coordinator if he knows Eren's father, considering the significance of their mission.

Also, since its now obvious that titans are people I am very interested in how the church fits into all of this. Also interested in how people are turned into titans. Clearly the Beast Titan had something to do with Conny's village
so it has to be something portable...so the only thing that makes sense is that it's a shot or substance that can be ingested.
I swear this show answers two or three questions at a time while posing ten more lol. I was going to jump in to the manga to get some answers, but if season 3 drops next year then I'll just wait.

So I watched the Season 3 teaser put out on the Funimtion channel. I'm worried that perhaps some of the picture stills they showed would be considered spoilers? There's one in particular that seemed to be a big one. Is that right? I'm not going to mention it but I would have thought a teaser would have been spoiler free or at least I didn't see any spoiler warnings attached to it.

Put that in spoilers. They don't give a shit about your opinion of the next season. Let them get hyped or whatever

Eh, I personally think the whole package is just gonna be great, but some people might not be too thrilled when S3 starts. But whatever, let people hype themselves to high heaven if they want, I guess.

Yep, your last sentence is also another good reason.

Also, i wouldn't hope for 25 episodes for next season until there is some official confirmation.

watched the last episode. Lol they went full on ham in some places, when Christa did like 12 unnecessary flips i bust my shit laughing. Some of the music choices were a bit weird too.

Good season overall, i think it started stronger than it finished but it was always going to be really hard to top episode 6 imo. Nice to get the quick turnaround for next year too.

So I guess the coordinator power is how the walls were built. Still don't know who built them. Also still nothing on the basement. We'll get those season one answers eventually. :/

Can't wait until they show Reiner and bertholdt's home. Interested in seeing life in the titan village. The monkey titan is probably not eren's dad based on what others have said about him being unfamiliar with the gear. I feel like Historia is a higher up in Titan society and the blond haired guy is her dad or something. This is based on nothing else but them both being important and having blond hair.

He was severely hurt in the Annie fight when he saved Mikasa.

Erwin got an entire arm chopped off and he still ended up being the most useful of the lot in the last titan fight.

I'm guessing he's going to be 'retired' in a similar manner in the next season?

On another note, in the opening we see someone turning into a titan and causing an entire village to disintegrate. Is that the colossal titan transforming? We see him destroying a huge cliff afterwards. That wasn't in the show either

I love his personality because it's absolutely the best at hyping you up, but I also love that the author doesn't make it this thing where he gets to magically come out on top and save the day just because he's really angry.

Yeah that's why I love him so much too.

Eren VA is so good, I mean, it's the reason why I prefer anime to mangas, voice actor can make you feel real feels in one instant, dude know how to hype me up for sure, go Eren.
