As haly points out, Momo's quirk transmutes lipids into whatever she wants as long as she can recall its full make-up. That's the reason why she's so book smart, she's studied everything to best utilize her quirk.

The other aspect to her quirk, as I recall, is that she has no control of where stuff comes out when she creates it. It just seems to have rules though where the bigger object, the higher the surface area required to make it materialize. If you notice during USJ, the giant blanket she used to protect her and Kyoka from Kaminari's lightning was pushed out through her back, ripping her clothes in the process, while the bolas she used to stop a villain was ejected from her elbow, I think? The animation for this currents episode does a weird job at it but the matryoshkas she makes in this episode were popping out of her arms randomly in the manga. So it seems smaller objects will auto-create in exposed areas while larger ones will default to other places as necessary.

Her in universe reason for the costume is the above basically and the fact she isn't really bothered by nudity all that much. From the author's side of it, it's fanservice and likely an additional check and balance on her abilities.
It could be an anime thing but seems to have some sort of control as she to purposely create shields from her arms

The thing is, we also see her create stuff in areas that makes perfect sense. The grounding rod during the cavalry battle came out of her hand, and she can pull shields out of her arm. I don't think that her powers really justify the outfit, and there isn't enough done with her blasé attitude towards nudity to make that more than additional fanservice fuel.

The shield out of her arm is an anime mistake iirc, just saying.

Not from what I can tell. The fight is literally just the one panel, mind.

I don't have as much problem with Momo's outfit as I have with Mdinight's because it isn't the trait that defines her the most. I agree with people saying that a sports bra would work better tho.

Best female costume in the anime is Kendou's anyway, Jirou's costume comes second.

It's probably why I also like Ojiro & Tokoyami hero costumes, if only for their simplicity in their design. I do have a soft spot for Ashido's hero outfit, though.

It could be an anime thing but seems to have some sort of control as she to purposely create shields from her arms

She did so in the manga too as I recall but whether it was done on purpose or whether it was instinctual, we don't really know. Based off all the stuff that happens in the anime and the manga, it kind of points to both. She makes weapons in pretty convenient places like in USJ she makes the pole and the sword for Kyoka and then there's the sports festival examples. But she also does it in areas that are kinda weird like she creates a bola net from her elbow, the insulation sheet from her back, the matryoshkas all over her arms, the memory ribbon from her chest area, etc.

The anime does an OK-ish job with it but his is the same panels as that scene with the martyoshkas in the anime. You can see her creating them from her shoulders and them popping out from various areas though. If she had control, it would have just been easier for her to make them in her hand as she ran and them deposited them into her belt instead of just doing that, lol.

It'd be pretty neat to see her abilities detailed a bit more.

As I pointed out above, she's created a lot of stuff that's appeared from random places in addition to stuff that seems to pop up in super convenient locations. The blanket in particular is animated as appearing across her entire back before being shot out and expanding to cover them.

Based off what we've seen of her abilities, I think that she has two methods of making items, either she makes them as they come out or she has to organize the molecules for the entire thing internally then spitting out that where it then manifests. The former wouldn't take up a lot of space to materialize something but 2nd the method would require a larger surface area to store and then eject.

I really want to see more Momo because her ability is super interesting. The mechanics of it are probably the most complicated. Everyone has a pretty simple things going on but materializing shit has to go through a process, lol.

Momo's design would work a lot better if she were like, 10 years older.

I mean even then it would play into the incredibly cliche sexy supergal, but it would go over way better than now imo.

Also even disregarding the fanservice her outfit just looks terrible, lmao. Easily one of the worst superhero designs in the class.

You're gonna lower her confidence with that kind of talk

I think the manga artist intended college age kids rather than 15 year olds which would make a lot more sense in a lot of ways, apart from Dekus neuropathy about girls maybe

It's supposed gives her space for to materialize funny enough when she unbuttoned her shirt and was going running with her chest and bra exposed and sports bra will be more practical

So partly fanservice

Also if she needs to expose skin for the quirk, she'd have even more surface area using her back, and grabbing at her lower back would be nearly as quick.

I really liked the minor change they made where Deku and Uravity spend most of the previous matches hanging out (with Asui subbing in when it's Uravity's turn)

It really makes it clear their chemistry.

Plus it's cute as fuck

actually now that i think about it Momo's dumb powers thing doesn't explain jack shit about why she doesn't have pants

If they focused more on like being able to materialise things in opportune places (like armour or the thing she did to avoid Aizara's grab) I could see it as a sliiiiiightly better excuse. But as with pretty much anything made for fanservice, it's still really not great.

It does look a lot better in black and white where it's just kind of just a costume

This.

And to add Trojita's comment into this, the way they did the after credits scene was really funny.

Love

how do you quickly grab items shooting out of your back, while running or moving for cover.

This is correct, actually; in fact, in the original one-shot comic, Deku (named Jack Midoriya) was an adult salary man that sold weapons to heroes. However, his editor made him turn it into a high school setting, likely because it would make the manga more popular with SJ's target audience.

whoa. the vibe of the show would be 100% different if it stuck to that original story

UA being a university would have been fine tho

I mean, I'm all for changing the costume, but pulling stuff out of your lower back is a lot harder, slower, and clumsier than grabbing it from the front.

And yeah, the original pitch was to have the cast way older. College age at least. The disconnect here is more about the framing in the anime, though, the panel work isn't nearly so male-gaze-y.

Well honestly, if it was a guy with Momo's powers, the best idea would be basically naked outside of a belt, some shoes, and a Speedo. I believe regarding her powers, she can make things come out anywhere, but larger things need to come out of a larger surface area. To that end, being able to expose your chest and torso would be ideal since that's the largest area on your body other than your back, but making things come from your back as opposed to your front is inconvenient.

Horikoshi can always improve the costume. Who remembers the terrible costume Todoroki wore before he started using his fire?

Other stuff about the one-shot: instead of All Might, there was a legendary hero named Positive who retired and disappeared one day. Midoriya realizes that another hero (Snipe) is actually Positive in a new guise; Positive had a bad run in with a bad guy that left him injured and traumatized, so he took to wearing a mask and using guns to keep from direct fighting.

Even when Horikoshi moved to the high school setting, it was going to be a bit edgier when you look at the concepts he released. All of the characters looked a bit older or mature, Midoriya (Yamikumo then) had hair over one eye (he looked like the Persona 3 protagonist with curlier hair) and he was going to be a Quirkless gadget based hero named Kid Fiend (his bunny ears and smile mouth guard were more like horns and fangs, and his color scheme was red)

Other weird tidbits:
-Uraraka was originally Mt. Lady, but Horikoshi thought that giving her a power that would constantly break stuff and be embarrassing was out of place. Her design elements went to multiple other characters.
-There's an early concept of Iida's costume or design where he looked like a skeletal dog or something. I can't tell if it was just his costume or if he was going to be way more of a mutant.
-Kaminari looked like an outright villain with long hair slicked back and a look like a street punk
-Tsuyu and Hagakure were originally boys (Horikoshi wanted to write a frog person character for a long time) and changed to girls to balance out the class. Tsuyu was also less overtly froglike and was supposed to have a more downbeat gloomy personality
-Present Mic was just supposed to be some random fat old guy who made announcements before Horikoshi made him a high energy hero
-All Might's V iconography was going to be a mask over his eyes before it was his hair
-Endeavour was going to be a teacher but Horikoshi thought it would make UA way too overpowered in fights against villains
-Midnight was going to be 1-A's homeroom teacher

Just to add a new tidbit. Deku and prototype Deku's costumes are a atribute to a character from one of his previous serious. The character was a human with rabbit form.

Aoyama is a national treasure.

Until you remember that this is still a shounen and it'll take years for them to (hopefully) become an actual couple. Aoyama merely sped up the process by, I dunno, a day.
Hmm, one day does mean a lot though, maybe he is a hero...

Good adaptation. The only thing that slightly bothered me is how easy Ectoplasm's clones were beaten up. It looked like they didn't even try doing anything besides blindly running into Tokoyami/Tsuyu.

......。。。should or shouldn't i post that out of context tsu pic
Do you want to repeat it on every page?

.......no

Also I don't remember how Fragile the clones were in the Manga but we never seen them fight iirc though they kick a bunch of thugs and Ectoplasm was wiping the floor Dark shadow

It's at it weakest during the fight to be fair and Ectoplasm is a pro hero. Strong one if he was panhandling Dark shadow with weights on.

I love the later iterations of costumes as the series progresses. The pro hero designs get better too. Deku's and Todoroki's designs are good examples of that now. Todoroki simplifies from his half and half design to much better effect and Deku makes small changes to keep the 'smile' silhouette while keeping the trademark look, red boots and all.

I don't know. I always thought that his flamboyant mannerisms, along with his vain and prideful persona, was all a facade to hide his insecurities?

I want to see Dark Shadow active during near or complete darkness. I wanna see just how powerful he can get.

Also, Deku must protect Urarakas smile damnit. I ship them so hard :(

I really like how Ectoplasm is a menacing looking hero. Usually the villains get all the cool designs so it's nice to see some guy that looks like a badass villain actually be a good guy.

We got a little peek of that during the villain invasion. Dark Shadow's hand was huge.

Peek isn't good enough :p I want to see DS just annihilate dudes.

He did say he has less control over it the stronger it gets

So it'll probably hulk out

Speaking of, is he a quadruple amputee? We never see his arms at all and he seems to have stilts for feet.

You know, with how strong gadgets and items are in this world, one could easily be a pro hero using just those

Just look at how crazy support girl's inventions all are, and other heroes who fly around on jetpacks, or the hero this ep with the huge digger thing, I mean, unless it's somehow their superpower, they're just relying on tech there

I wonder why deku never thought of or tried to go that route when he realized he didn't have powers

Just go through the top heroes list and copy all their most powerful equipment and stuff

Yayaorozu should just use her powers to create a bionic suit or something. She'd be the best tinker ever
