The Kiseki / Trails (of the Sky/Zero/Ao/Sen/Etc) Community Thread: SPOILERTAGS OR DIE

Thing is, I don't get the impression that Radiant Blade wasn't meant to be a heavy hitter. Let's compare it to Rean's Flame Dragon.

Radiant Blade
Magic Attack (Set) - Area (M) - Mute (90%)
Unbalance +20%, Class S, 40 CP

Flame Dragon
Attack (Set) - Area (M) - Burn (50%) - Faint (50%)
Unbalance +30%, Class S+, 45 CP

Both hit the same area. Flame Dragon is slightly more damaging and unbalances more consistently. Radiant Blade is slightly cheaper and more reliable at inflicting ailments (Flame Dragon has a base 75% chance of inflicting something). They're very close to each other in terms of power, but only if Laura's ATS is comparable to Rean's STR. If Radiant Blade is supposed to consistently deal less damage than other S-class Crafts then it's overpriced in terms of CP cost. This is what makes me think that Falcom wanted Laura to fill a different combat role in CS II, but didn't get the balance quite right in time.

You're comparing it to the wrong craft. Laura's goto AoE craft is Radiant Spin:

Power: S+
Range: Area (Large) - Set
Effects: Draws foes towards Laura, Faint (50%)
(50CP)

The literally did not change Laura's role. She has the exact same crafts as before, only better, with buffs to her primary offensive crafts and S-craft making her even more powerful as an offensive tank. The intent with Radiant Blade is to target magic users and cripple them with Mute. Obviously this doesn't work out in practice, because most bosses resist Mute and you're better off outright killing trash mobs with Radiant Spin. The fact that it works off her ATS is bizarre as well, but I suspect they wanted to give her an option to target enemies with low ADF, in the event that you run into high defense enemies. Doesn't matter because Laura's Attack is so high, she ends up doing way more damage against high defense enemies anyway, lol.

yea, then you can bind it to the controller.
Ah OK. Apparently it was enabled and bound to "button 12", I'm not even sure what that is as I've typically tried every button, but googling reveals it might be the Right Stick click, and yeah I might not have tried that one. So I'll test it tonight, thanks.

Might be helpful if you arent familiar, this assumes windows 10

in windows press windows key then type "controllers" and then "Set up USB game controllers" should be the first option. Open that then in the list you will see a list of controllers (most likely only one). Click it then press properties. Once you are in that menu you can just click buttons on the controller and see which numerical light turns on.

Do you mean the famous Falcom "VANTAGE MASTER"?

Fucking magnificient card based SRPG, it's totally freeware (thanks Falcom) and it's hard as hell, for what I remember.

Plus, it works great on Windows 7/8.1/10.

Glorious Falcom.

Aye. They put a (simplified) version of it in CS3.

The music when it plays is so awesome. It has to be from one of the past Vantage Master games. The art is also awesome. Forget Blade; we need Vantage Master playing cards in the CS3 LE.

you can do the same there, its just the first step is slightly different as the whole "Setu up USB Game Controllers" name was what they chagned it to. I think in windows 7 it was "Controllers and Input Devices".
OK yeah that worked. Seems like right stick click is indeed 12. Gonna try that in the game tonight, thanks.

I wish it were, but no, it's not an arrangement of any song from VM. I really do feel like VM and its soundtrack are very underappreciated even among Falcom fans, and I encourage everyone to give VM Online a try. It's free, after all!

It's also kinda sorta English. Translated by Falcom so that should tell you what to expect going in.

The music is great though.

The cutscenes aren't even translated at all - in fact, the text is completely glitched and unreadable. Fortunately, Vantage Master is almost entirely gameplay-focused, with only a few minutes of cutscenes in total anyway.

For you Sen III players how much of the map of Erebonia is playable?

It's limited to mostly new places in the western part of the country and Crossbell. You do eventually return to Heimdallr but its the side of the city you didn't go to the first time.

It hit me yesterday when playing TitS: you could almost already make one single giant map that interconnects every micro area in Liberl, parts of Erebonia, and Crossbell.
I don’t know what CS3 covers though. And IIRC, we’d still need
South Erebonia, like everything leading to Haken Gate

Starting chapter IV, I'm already beginning to feel the wait for Sen IV. I kind of want it to come out next year, but i also want them to do it right.

I'm still on chapter 2. Game's been fantastic so far and I'm enjoying all the characters so far.

Only disappointment besides non voiced scenes would be no S Crafts for everyone :/

Thank you to the folks who suggested I look into Turbo Mode and helped me set it up.

Absolute gamechanger, holy shit. <3 <3 Wish I had that when I played FC/SC back then (I think it got patched in later?), but right now my enjoyment of the game has dramatically increased.

In Trails 3rd, the Silver and Gold Roads... I can come back later
after finishing it up right? I found a door but I don't think I have the right character in my party...

Yes. None of the doors are missable. (In fact, I'm not sure that there's anything in 3rd that's missable.)

Can someone make this with Rean's Hair

I MESSED UP. The NA OT's gotta be titled that, though.

You've never seen falcom gakuen?

Go fight!

Nope. I want to, but it seems a little cringy. Plus i'm not the biggest fan of the art.

3rd with Turbo mode is legit one of the greatest RPG experiences I've had. Glad you got it worked out.

As much as I love the Class VII group photo, seeing them hanging out here with their respective clubs feels kinda bittersweet.

You could always do it with CheatEngine, but I also only learned about it during the final chapter of SC.
Turbo Mode/Speedhacking legitimately makes the Sky games flawless.

I actually found this artist the other day, they are stupidly good, I'm very jealous of their artistic abilities. I recommend checking out the rest of their stuff if anyone's interested. (And it's almost all trails stuff, so this is a relevant recommendation)

This is great! They even got that unnamed bibliophile from the library.
Her name is not!Elie and she is precious.

I haven't gotten far enough to understand this reference but I love Beryl. My dream is for her to meet Argyle so they can be creepy children of darkness together~
It's not a reference to the game, it just looks like she's getting ready to take a bite out of something that she can barely hold in her hands.

Oh. And here I was expecting a request from Beryl to find an invisible monster hamburger cuz for some reason that made sense to me at the time. :p

I probably shouldn't have looked at that group photo. I think one person might be missing from it and now I'm suspicious. Lol

so, NISA managed to piss off a lot of fans, falcom, and it seems the voice actors too?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=251785862&postcount=259

Other places I'm reading that the VAs have started saying they wouldn't reprise their roles if NISA got cold steel 3 (which is why along with the letter to xseed I'm cross posting this here).

Wow. I like xseed a lot, but I never would have expected the voice actors to be so passionate about it as well.
It's... actually kind of nice, in a weird way? It's cool that they're fans of the series as well, and want the best for it.

With Sean being the loudest voice in this I can't say I'm that surprised. Rean was his big break. His earlier works like Danganronpa and Ys were much more minor and didn't give him a chance to show his range. Since getting Rean and being given such good material to work with hes managed to get into Zelda and Persona. His career is really going places and I'm not surprised to see how much appreciation he has for XSEED on that.

Having that letter also undersigned by some bigger longer tenured names like Cassandra Lee Morris and Kira Buckland though I think really adds to Sean's message.
