I just ordered a PS2 and a bunch of random games:

- Maximo
- Shox
- Castlevania: Lament of Innosence
- Kengo
- Rogue Galaxy
- Final Fantasy XII
- Wild Arms 3
- Shinobi
- Shadows of Memories
- Summoner
... and Beat 3000

I want to connect it my destop, so I also ordered a PS2 to HDMI adapter as well. Are there better options?
Also, are there mouses for PS2? Obviously for Beat 3000. Perhaps I could use emulators, but I don't know if my PC handles it well. I tried Dolphin once and it worked (playable) for a lot of games, but most of them had issues with FPS and soundbugs.

And are there some suggestions for games? My most favorite type of games are horror survival, extreme sports games, platformers, action/hacknslay/fighting.

Ps2 has a huge library of games. It would take too long to list them. There's really a shit ton of good games on that system.
I'll name a few.
God of war 1, 2, Psy ops, Resident evil 4, Yakuza 1 and 2, Silent hill series, Mgs series, Onimusha series, Zone of the enders, Bully, gta games etc, etc.

As for playing them, pcsx2 is a great emulator for the pc and it works great. Some games may require some tinkering but the result is always awesome. You can run games at a much higher resolution, have AA and many other improvements. Often, these bells n whistles will require that you tinker stuff in settings to work properly, but little googling goes a long way.
But if you want to just play games plug n play style, pretty much 99 percent of the games will run fine in software mode. It's a mode that is OG ps2 look without said improvements.

SSX tricky
NBA Street Vol. 2
Ico
Burnout 3 Takedown is awesome is well.
Dave Mira freestyle bmx was one of my favs and had so many trick variations and great tracks it was truly great!

I used to hook it up with S-Video on a CRT and that was the best video output I knew of but I’m sure HDMI would look good too, honestly I’m not 100% sure on this, but I remember s-video being the shit WAY back in the day!

Find a copy of Silent Hill 2, probably the best psychological horror game of that generation.

MLB Slugfest and NHL Hitz.

The Bouncer for the novelty of owning it. It went hand in hand when the PS2’s high graphic capabilities were being shown off.

I second, that there’s a lot to list.

Even though my PS2 still world I've been using PCSX2 for almost 8 years and it works like a charm.
When it comes to games, just like others already mentioned: too much to name. There'll never be a console with a library like the PS2. Unless Sony goes balls deel next Thursday and announces full Backwards Compability.

Playstation 2 mouse compatibility is certainly a pain in the ass. And i'm not talking about the small number of games with mouse USB support, but the mouse compatibility support of those games!

I have tried tons of mice, even the mouse that Playstation Underground advertised in their video, and there's no single mouse that can give you perfect accuracy in all the titles.

A few of my favourites mentioned. Silent Hill 2 is a must. The HD version is a travesty. There was a game called 'Gun' as well. Get on it if you spot it, a Western game.

i run my ps2 via component cables thru an OSSC to a desktop lcd monitor and use MCfreeboot + GS Mode Selector to force the games to 480p (u could go higher on some titles to 1080i if u want but its a bit hit and miss with GS) in 480p with the ossc scanlines, it looks great. in 480i, prepare to stab your eyes out.

Gradius V in 480p is a sight to behold!! <3

Try The Red Star and either Daioujou or Espgaluda (either can last a lifetime).

EDIT: no mention of Downhill Domination? Great bike game. Kinda like Road Rash mixed w downhill snowboard racing, but on bikes.

Getting a PS2 nowadays gives you massive bang for your buck. The greatest library of every machine, period. You simply can't go wrong with it.

Pick up classics such as Silent Hill 2 & 3, Fatal Frame 2, Burnout 3 & Revenge, MGS 2 & 3, SSX 3, God Of War 1 & 2, Gradius V, Shin Megami Tensei : Nocturne, Persona 4, Shadow Hearts : Covenant, Final Fantasy X, Ace Combat 4 & 5, Devil May Cry 3, Zone Of The Enders 2, Gran Turismo 3 & 4, the Jak, Ratchet & Clank and Sly trilogy, Katamari 1 & 2, the GTA games...

God all mighty, there's a lotta choice here... At least, they're mostly cheap.
But then again, the issue here may not be the price of those games, but the lack of time to play them.

I connect my PS2 with component cables using an OSSC. Great line-doubler, which enhances the picture quality greatly on flat-screen TVs, but it's not a cheap solution at all (it will cost you around $150).

And are there some suggestions for games? My most favorite type of games are horror survival, extreme sports games, platformers, action/hacknslay/fighting.

Within those genres?

-Silent Hill 2 and 3 (the other SH titles on PS2 range from okay to pretty good, but 2 and 3 are essential experiences)
-Fatal Frame 1 and 2 (3's pretty good just a bit weaker)
-Resident Evil 4
-Jak and Daxter trilogy
-Ratchet and Clank 1-3
-Sly Cooper 1-3
-Rayman 3
-Devil May Cry 1 and 3
-Soul Calibur 2
-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (if you don't have 3rd Strike already)
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2
-Capcom vs. SNK 2
-Virtua Fighter 4
-Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 (RPGs, but action-style ones. Also Chain of Memories, not as good as 1 and 2 but still enjoyable and takes place between them and 2's story makes more sense if you've played it)

I personally liked Curse of Darkness more than Lament of Innocence. Shadow of Rome is another good one that is not well known.

Awesome! You said Shinobi...I loved that game! Looks like I need to fire up the PS3 and play it tonight! I love how Shinobi can play on any model of PS3 since mine is a Super Slim!

Chaos Legion, a very underrated hack and slash gem from Capcom. Probably has arguably one of the best OST’s of any game ever.

Haunting Ground is a standout survival horror game for PS2. Prices are infamously high on it, but I do recommend it if you find a cheap enough copy to get one.

Bear in mind that if your monitor doesn't accept interlaced signal you won't be able to play your PS2 on it even with the HDMI adapter, not that many PS2 games supported progressive mode.
Also if you got the fat PS2 you should soft mod it and add a hdd to it, a PS2 with HDD OpenPS2Loader is the best option to have.

I play my PS2 more than any other console I own (don't tell any of my Xboxes that)

Ummm... some random games that I couldn't live without:

- Dark Cloud 2
- Ape Escape 2
- Ape Escape 3
- NHL HItz 2003
- Simpson's Road Rage

Most importantly!!

Plug that sucker into an CRT with either S-Video or Component cables

PS2 is retro now?

Haunting Ground and Nightshade maybe? Also OG Shadow of the Colossus and Ico?

You're in for a shocker lol. Haunting ground sells for about $250 CIB.

Nice list of games there. Shinobi is a good game, but I still think its one of the hardest games that I've played.

For platformers, you could always get the Sly Cooper games or the Ratchet and Clank games. Mark of Kri was also an amazing third person hack and slash game.

Played Obscure as a kid with my dad. It's not earth shattering or anything but I remember it being pretty fun. It's got this co-op thing going on.
