On principle, if this is real I'll go back to my Steam/GOG PC as my primary, PS5/Switch for exclusives. That's basically where I was for 2014-16. I'd of course periodically use one of my stockpiled Gold subs to keep my Xboxes in the family rotation...but I wouldn't be jumping back into Gamepass or Gold in perpetuity or be spending any new money on subs.

This type of price hike would absolutely be anti - consumer, and could make the backlash they received for the Xbone reveal seem tame.

I'm glad I jumped back into pc gaming two years ago. I became a console gamer early prev gen, left and became pc only gamer when the same gen was about to be done.

And neither next gen console seems interesting to me anyway so I'm free from hideous subs besides mmos if I want to play these. But they don't disable your online capabilities if you don't pay.

Some MMOs do have a reason for subscriptions like the ones that provide content regularly for example. But I agree with you they your typical game shouldn't have it. But thankfully I stick to single player games for the most part. But it does suck that I have to pay if I want to anything online besides those FTP games.

This could still be that plan. I actually said they would make live more and more expensive before they got rid of the 12 month cards. Now they are charging the yearly cost for 6 months. 6 months Gamepass Ultimate is how much in dollars and includes 'live'? They are making it more and more costly to buy gold and there is more incentive to just get Ultimate until there is no "live gold" anymore, just gamepass.

I didn't actually. I probably should since I have GamePass Ultimate. But I got the deal for $1 if you already have Gold, so I guess that's why I figured you needed Gold (because you did for that promo). I actually rebought a year of Gold to take advantage of that promo.

Raise price of Gold Only membership... Keep Game Pass Ultimate price as is .... goal is to push all Gold Users to Game Pass Ultimate. The cost difference wont be huge side by side but the benefits going Game Pass Ultimate will stand out even more. End game goal get the vast majority switched over so you can easily absorb the hit when you cancel Gold and all remaining Gold users into GPU users. This is what my tinfoil hat, magic crystal eight-ball all tell me.

Remember when Sony was giving out free one month trials to PS+ and those codes stacked? Good times and thanks to Wario64 for pointing it out. It's $59.99 now, up from the original $49.99. For US folks, CDKeys always has them for 50%+ off (currently 53%).

I predicted a price increase for the subscription services, but there is no way Microsoft is crazy enough to charge double the price for their subscription service, especially when they are trailing behind the competition. Would be my guess as well but if Sony wanted a real kill shot for the generation, they could just make online free again. That's not likely as you'd have to figure out what to do with with existing subscriptions (either refund or offer something more than the free game offering).

They are now making Xbox Live Gold cost $120/year.
Game Pass is $120/year as well.
So the 2 would cost $240/year on their own.

Its Xbox's way to make Game Pass Ultimate at $180/year look like a value. Raise the price of Live.
