Nintendo Direct 2/17

Spukc

always chasing the next thrill
Are you all srsly that mad at Nintendo? I think the Direct was just ok... What's wrong with it? There are some cool stuff that cought my attention like Mario Tenis, that Famicon Detective VN, Skyward Sword (I've been waiting SO LONG for it to be re-released, don't care enough about BOTW2 yet), Splatoon 3, NMH3... Those are some I will most probably buy after I'm done with my already acumulated Switch backlog...

Actually kinda shocked Nintendo are charging $50 for a 3DS port (Miitopia)

Costs more than it did when it was new on the 3DS too, guess the make-up and horses they added really left them no choice but to bump the price up

My take from the ass.

WW will be coming later either before BOTW2 or after to give them some $60 spotlight before these wallets explode. There are tons of games I'm buying already and having 2 mainline Zelda games in close range wouldn't help at all.

What a low effort money grab nintendo, where is oot remake, or any new game coming out 1st half of this year, lol done with nintendo untill they start caring again.

I liked Skyward Sword. High highs, low lows, a middle-of-the-pack Zelda game but a good game overall. But I have zero interest in ever revisiting it.

The Direct was disappointing in that I would have hoped to at least seen one of big hitters. Bringing Aonuma on and then not showing BotW2 was lame. But overall there were a fair amount of games shown that I'm interested in. Even just based off of this first Direct of the year, I will be getting more games on Switch this year than I did last year (which isn't saying much, but it's a good start seeing as it's only February).

Unfortunately, it does feel like it's going to be yet another pretty light year from Nintendo first-party, though.

I have to concede though...that is a lot of games and not everything should always cater to me. A lot of people will find something out of that to buy. The Direct had a lot of games no doubt see no ing that list.

Too bad the Triangle Strategy demo doesn't have Japanese dub.... It's weird considering the demo for Octopath and Bravely Default 2 have JP dub

Now I do have to criticize Nintendo for the lack of Zelda news, I wish they explained more on why they weren't going to show anything. I understand the virus and whatnot but he mentioned the development is going good so why no news or some screenshot of the game?
Cause they don't want Zelda fans attention on BOTW2 more than on SS remaster. They'll say more once the game is out.

That Direct could have been released 10 years ago and nothing would have looked out of place.

Disappointing doesn't even start to cover that, just a slew of rehashes, recycles and ugly C grade games. How can anyone defend that?

Yet here we are.

I mean even Nintendo diehards are pretty disappointed on youtube.

Giantbomb was even down on it and usually there's some positivity there.

Hope Nintendo is holding out for summer to blow the lid off.

Well that was bad for a Dream Direct but solid for a regular Direct.

Lotsa great looking games.

I'm missing my Metroid and BOTW but damn am I looking forward to SS cuz that is one hell of a game!!!

Splatoon 3 is really cool but also disappointing cuz I figure the 3rd entry deserved a true generational leap for the series. Shoulda been a Switch 2 launch title.
3 games in a new series with similar level of tech feels somewhat stagnant.
Game still looks great and I'm sure it'll be incredible but I just think a Splatoon 3 with a generational leap woulda been the better move.

Where was SMT? Sigh end of year I guess....

I don't even care about it myself but where was Bayo 3?

Mario Golf looks fucking hot, as do all those RPGS (sorry I refuse to use that non-term "JRPG").

Happy about a Mii game! Can't believe I didn't think of it but I'm happy there's one coming.

Pyra is great but no Rex is disappointing.

Very disappointing, but at least I won't have to spend money on my switch until the second half of the year.

Really jumped out at me how poorly the SS art style aged, or maybe it was nevdr good to begin with and I just didn't care about it at the time.

A little late to the party, but...

Damn, this Direct was amazing!! :messenger_grinning: I almost died of joy when I saw "project triangle". I was like "OMG, Tactics Ogre?!? Final Fantasy Tactics?!?". Wooow, it looks SO GOOD! Finally a new, triple-A-quality SRPG on the horizon!! AMAZING, haha!!

And then... SKYWARD SWORD H-D, BABY!! I wasn't too shocked about this one to be honest, because to me it was too obvious it would come - the Switch is just a too perfect fit for this kind of HD remaster. Anyway, I'm so happy, because SS one of my favorite Zeldas and really deserved a remaster, because it completely maxed out the Wii when it came out, so the solution and framerate had to suffer back then.

I also believe that the smaller Joycon are gonna make it even more comfortable to play (Wiimotes are quite a bit more to grab).

Monster Hunter & No More Heroes looked really good, too.

Overall, seeing the huge variety of all kinds of different "fun"-looking games made me pretty happy. GOOD SHIT! :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Not sure if sarcastic, but if not, high five!

100% serious. High five, mate!

Splatoon is like Street Fighter. People that play it are still playing the last game nearly every day. It'll be 4 years between releases. I'm ready for part 3 now. Put about 500 hrs into 2 and still play it.

Which games looked great? They all looked last gen (thats being generous) and half of them literally are from last gen.

Ouch... I wanted to give it a try but I'll skip it then, I'll probably check it whenever it's out if it has jap VO.

Anime + english voices sounds like whatever people hear when they die and go to hell to me...

thats not completely true, I loved the english dub for anime show like Mushishi and love english voices in Japanese games like Nier Gestalt/Automata.

But in case of Triangle Strategy and Monster Hunter Rise I definitely prefer Japanese voices.

Great is relative first of all. Just cuz it's not the most advanced technology doesn't mean it can't also look great on its own terms.
Smash Ultimate can look gorgeous, as can The Medium, a PS1, or an NES game.

And I wasn't even referring to the graphics anyway, I meant that they look like good games. How else am I supposed to phrase that?

It's not always about the best graphics, and I love better graphics.

Buncha those games look like great games. And yeah, many are still visually pleasing as well. I want a Pro/2 as much as the next guy but I'm not gonna say something looks awful just cuz it's not the best looking thing ever.

If what the other poster says is true, then they probably had different SKU per region so language is region locked
Ok, I just tried the JP demo. Basically it's the same as the US demo. They used the same language as your machine. So if you change to Japanese for the console, then the demo will use Japanese language for text and voice

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
Well, I never played that Mana game so I am looking forward to that.

Oh, and that Mario Golf game for sure. I love those golf RPG hybrids.

These showcases always end up being underwhelming because people always expects so much from them.

At this point, Nintendo, Sony and MS should only do showcases for their bigger announcements and games because at the end of the day that’s all people want to see.

I thought we already went survived this dark era of "language by system settings" :(

English is not my mother language, it actually sounds very unmatching over anime characters to me and my friends... I guess for those speaking spanish in general too.

Better that the PS5 Future of Gaming event? You drunk or something? Most of the Direct were trash looking MP F2P titles, DLCs, ports, remasters, awful looking Japanese games and announcements that have no place in these type of events (like Hades' physical release). But I'm not surprised by your awful take considering the stupid ass note in which you ended your post.

Like I said, this terrible Direct does not surpass The Future of Gaming as the best live event in recent memory:
  • Horizon: Forbidden West
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Demon's Souls
  • Returnal
  • Astro's Playroom
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  • Resident Evil: Village
  • Project Athia
  • Pragmata
  • Hitman 3
  • Deathloop
  • Ghostwire Tokyo
  • Little Devil Inside
  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits
  • Oddworld: Soulstorm
  • Stray
And yeah, I left out stuff like Godfall, Bugsnax, NBA 2K, Destruction AllStars or Volcano High because I know you are going to complain about them and say "well those games don't count 'cause they are garbage". Alright then, they are garbage. Now take a look at the list from above and tell me again if yesterday's Direct was better.

The game Project triangle strategy, it's from Square and it looks like Octopath traveler. Is it in any way related?
