Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, and You: Navigating the Future of Tech (a NeoGAF discussion thread)

I'm very new to this cryptocurrency thing....too new you might say, should have gotten on this train years ago instead of talking about just gaming on the internet...........
Oh well!

I've just set up a GPU for ethereum mining, Anyone else mining at the moment? Any obvious tips?
Or is there another thread for such discussion?

Also where do you guys go for your daily news on on crypto? Do you follow a youtuber etc?

Who else here is going all in on/long on ADA and using Doge/Shiba/other meme crypto to make short cash?

I feel unless you really have the liquidity to drop dimes in every crypto, this is the safest / highest ceiling crypto gamble.

For mining, you have to optimize your power consumption. Generally, that means underclocking and/or undervolting your GPU. Generally, it's the bandwidth that is going to be the limit, so if you can reduce your power consumption and keep the same hashrate, it's a win.

For daily news, I'd suggest Altcoin Daily on YouTube. Not that I would recommend following the news daily. The important stuff will be prevalent all over the internet anyway. I'd suggest weekly round-ups, because daily news can make you very emotional and reactive.
For weekly content, I would recommend Crypto Casey and CoinBureau.

Test test test test to get the best results.

I was running Vega56s with a mixture of 1070s and 580s. If you are running AMD cards you can modify the memory timings to increase performance I was able to get an extra 10h/s on my 580s by modifying the bios.

generally you want reduce power draw by limiting your gpu power, you can save power by reducing your gpu clock speed. Mining is memory intensive so increasing your memory clock speed will increase hash power.

Nvidia’s are fantastic cards to mine on but you can only alter the clock speeds via afterburner. I found AMD cards are the fastest a RX580 can mine more than a 1070 because you can alter timings in the bios. On my vega 56 I flashed them into vega 64s to push them to the very limit.

Mining can get very in-depth so be careful and watch your power draw by a power meter so you can see how much you’re drawing from the wall.

For anyone interested here’s the rig I built

417Mh/s was it’s best it could do (eth) it pulled 1540W from the wall with the mods I did unmodded it was closer 2000W.

12x GPU’s the absolute max windows will allow (gaming gpu limit) yes that’s a server psu on top of the 2 normal PC atx psus I was using to power the board/risers/HDD and first 2 GPU’s of group A and group B it was very noisy.

I’m actually in the process of breaking it down and selling it on due the increase of price of power and cryptos volatility it was off and on but I’ve mined enough to hodl to make some nice returns even if the price drops I can still make profit.

I might have to change my stance on Ethereum Classic. I thought it would basically be a dead project, since the majority moved on to the main Ethereum project... But there is a valid argument that miners would start staking ETH 2.0 after its launched, but be left with mining hardware for Ethereum that can now be used to mine ETC instead. That would suddenly make ETC more secure, reducing the chance of 51% attacks happening again, and might therefore increase adoption.

For one, one of the heads of the Cardano project is becoming interested in ETC rather than ETH for some reason... Food for thought.

I think ETH can drop to around 2k, at worst. That being said, don't count on it doing that. The best thing you can do is dollar cost averaging.

I have literally zero worries about ETH btw. Even if it drops below 1k, I am still up more than 7x.

Edit:

We're likely gonna have a strong bounce in BTC relatively soon... Look at the shorts... A lot of people are gonna be liquidated once again.

I just bought alot. Got Dot to make 8% on it staking. Dropped 2k on Bitcoin at 43k. And 3k on vet and Algo. Also dropped 2k on One. Needless to say im Bullish! I have reserves if it really tanks. I just wanted to start getting staking set before it takes off again. Im all about the HODL.

Kraken is staking Dot at 12% if you want to earn a bit more. Moved what I've bought from Crypto.com to them. Just waiting for the day Kraken allows ACH funding.

I didn't read the whole thread, but is anybody doing Chia? I've been plotting on my linux box and farming for the past 12 days or so and won with a little less than 20 plots. I'm still plotting and farming, it takes about 13 hours to make two plots. I've been considering selling one XCH and hodling the other, but I don't want to sell it at less than $1700.

What GPUs are those, and are are you going to be scalping them?

You're extremely lucky. I have 21 plots, have been farming for almost three weeks, and still nothing lol.

I have been buying Polygon for the past three weeks and so far I have doubled my investment. Polygon held well through the dump and I am feeling bullish about it since it just crossed $2.

More lucky than you know ... I had one active farming plot at the time I won. My other plots were on my windows server which wasn't syncing, and so wasn't farming!

In that photo at the time I had 8 Vega 56s and 4 Nvidia 1070. When I built it there were driver limitations but you can have 12 AMD cards now. yeh I’m slowly selling them off at auction not been greedy just letting them go at what ever the highest bid is. I’ve tested all the cards and they’re mint, crypto mining doesn’t damage them.

My friend is doing it. He has a few terrabytes of space already and building out his proof of concept before he goes all in. He's ready to drop $10k on some drives.

A super dumb question that hopefully i can get answered

at 24:20 he says hes going to send bitcoin to it? But im just getting started in this and I wanted to know what website can I use that I can test sending bitcoin/crypto. Cause I'm guessing thats what he did when he went silent in this part of the tutorial video.

Coinbase Pro app not working and Crypto.com app being very slow. Robinhood surprisingly the only one working for me.
I think there’s a run and people trying to get out. Seems like the wrong movers this point. But it’s not surprising people would panic. I’m going to wait to buy, but I will be buying soon.

Jesus. Link lost 50% of its value in 24 hours.

Guys let's pretend I have about 50k I'm willing to go all in on with crypto. And I want two cryptos and are not so volatile.

My first choice is ETH. Maybe invest 25k in it. Then how about litecoin? I see it is at $382 and spiking up every day and has been going up consistently the past few months.

Asking for my retired friends (childhood friend's mom and dad) who have a decent amount of money but historically been terrible at financial decision making and investing. They once lost 100 grand, a 100% net loss on day trading 20 years ago.

I really hope you didn't invest.
