God Of War coming to PC on January 14

What? Buying a PC is much more expensive than a console. Specially a PC capable of running these games.

It's great that Sony is doing these PC releases because they want people to buy Ragnarok. I have no doubt it will help to increase sales of Ragnarok.

Just bought my graphics card and will transition to PC soon. Yes it is expensive you would need £1k minimum to run a game like God of War.

However for me the savings come in when I'm not paying for PSN Plus and buying games for a cheaper price. Finally it's not just a cost thing for a lot of people, PC has other benefits like mods, for example Assassin's Creed Odyssey has a lot of grinding, you can download a mod to minimize this. PC also has the addition to play Xbox exclusives too and of course emulators, I know someone that recently played 3DS emulator of Samus Returns then Metroid Dread on Switch emulator back to back as they were on a Metroid hype.

Sony selling to PC owners, but they selling at a time when they know it's hard to build a PC lol. So this way they can try and ensure people keep there PS5s when they look at PC graphic card prices.

They included DLSS.
Your 3 year old RTX will blitz its way through this game.
Nobody is forcing you to run at 4K Ultra everything.

The most popular GPUs are still the xx60s and thats not going to change any time soon so clever gamers who got their RTX20s and 30s are pretty much ready for most if not all of next year till Ada Lovelace shows up.
And even then DLSS 2.5 will be out Turing might yet last another generation till Hopper.

Awesome, when can we expect the Mario PC port news?
The Geforce Now datamine was not for PC specifically, it is for apps and games using some sort of Nvidia technology. So the Mario game listed was for the Chinese Nvidia Shield.

... but the Chinese Shield version of Mario Galaxy was curiously missing from the list? Fuck it! New Mario Bros for PC confirmed!

I think it will, and they will get greedy, they will see strong GOW sales on PC and release the second much earlier. (in addition to other games)
The timing of the releases are going to be crucial : if they release too soon or the day of, we'll wonder if the developer really maximized the PlayStation hardware. If they release too late, the game will no longer be relevant.

If they're smart about when to release on PC, it can be a success. I think between 2 to 4 years is a good delay.

One has to respect how Sony manages this and stays relevant and increases their mindshare.

Edit: it keeps people talking. New threads are created in gaming forums and have hundreds/thousands of posts and lots of chatter on discord for a game that is a few years old

People know how brilliant this game is and instead of having it release day 1 on PC and Playstation they have people talk about the game twice and create more hype for God of War Ragnarok.
And they also make a lot of money from it and incentivize people to buy a PS5 for the sequel.

i think it's fantastic news, more sales on a new platform equals more profit/investment for sony and their game studios.

Plus the PC crowd gets to experience a masterpiece.

And if might help push more consoles sales for the sequel.

Winner Winner chicken dinner 👍

Yep this is the point. It no longer makes many sales on PS4, has done the rounds on PSnow and PS+, and hypes up the release of Ragnarok, for later in the year!

Or they can wait a couple years and play the sequel at the best possible settings and unlocked framerates on PC.

I guess that depends on the PC owner. My PC will play PS4 games at higher settings but I'm not sure if that's true for PS5 games. But upgradable hardware is part of PC gaming so it won't be an issue for many.

Although I can still see the appeal with going with the console version even years after it's release. For example a used copy of GOW must be pretty cheap now.

Okay they’ll trick me to double dip again, best Sony game to date imo, feels like a metroidvania in 3D, absolutely love it!
ps, Sony please make it run on Steam Deck 👍

Interesting they seem to have implemented dlss into their inhouse engine, they seem to be taking their pc ports seriously at least. Has microsoft put dlss into any of their pc releases yet?

Main problem i was worrying about, probably will test it out then. can't stand controllers.

Also wonder why they didn't opt for Raytracing, would do the game some good.

Funny thing with me there's many types of games that I prefer to play with a controller on PC. Some I can't play with a controller like fighters for example.

Push consoles sales?

You say that as if PS5s are busy sitting on the shelves waiting for us to pick them up.

I think apologies are in order. When I said Sony will bring all their games to PC, I was mocked and harassed on this very forum just a year or two ago.
Sony confirmed they won't bring all their games to PC. They said they will keep porting some (not all) several years old games from time to time. Their output seems to be around 4 ports per year, way smaller than their output of new releases on PS.

no, unless you want to count Doom Eternal and Deathloop. No new releases from XGS (like flight sim) or Forza have DLSS (yet).

big chance they got a big paycheck from nvidia to do so. Otherwise u would have seen FSR most likely also.

Yea buddy of mine does the same, he plays as much controller as keyboard mouse. Its just what u are used to i guess then.

Cool will see when Gravity Rush, Last Guardian, Knack, Killzone Shadowfall, The Order, Entwined, Drive Club get ported to PC then you will get that apology.

Sony are very smart as they know I will buy this on steam even though I own it on playstation.

Twice the income!

I think this is a brilliant business move, as a long time gow and ps fan

drop the reboot on pc, get the master race warm and excited to buy a ps5 and the sequel 3 months later ;) .... or wait another 3 years.
Every...single...time. This is NOT what's happening, why people like you keep pushing this narrative is beyond me at this point, it makes no logical sense.

What game do you suppose needs or would really benefit from DLSS?

P.S Flight Simulator is only getting its DX12 patch next month, thats like the only current DLSS candidate I can think off.

I felt bad for my friend the other day when he benchmarked Far Cry 6 with is "capable" pc with a 2070 and had to turn everything down to just play the game. :messenger_grimmacing_

But I digress...

I wonder what the recommended specs will be just to play GoW at 4k/60.

edit: 1070 ti, my b
Well the problem is that he picked a Ubisoft game as a benchmark.

Was bound to happen after the Horizon port. With Horizon and GOW sequels coming soon, makes sense to give the brands the broadest exposure possible by porting over the older games to PC. Hopefully they do a good job with the PC port here.

Smart move by Sony. After playing this they have to buy a PS5 for Ragnarok. New userbase.
A PC only gamer won’t by a console for one game, but it’s still a smart move since they’ll sell more games both to new users and suckers like myself who’ll double dip for the enhancements. I hope it runs on Steam Deck!

Yeah I’m pretty sure I can easily run this on my seven years old 970 as this runs fine on a base PS4.

It would weaken their main brand, just it.
I disagree. It’s additional mindshare and more income. Console players will in the majority remain console players. Not talking hardcore here, I’m talking about casuals like the gas man who installed my smart meter, who has a box under his TV and loves playing God of War and Uncharted on it.

As gamers, strength of brand doesn’t affect how we enjoy the games, in my opinion.

Do you honestly think that many people who didn't spend ~250 bucks on a PS4 for almost 4 years will now suddenly spend 500 bucks? I think most will just wait and play it again in better quality on Pc since there is nothing to miss on singleplayer games.
