BREAKING: Sony is acquiring Bungie for 3.6b

I mean Ted Price is literally on video explaining how it happened. But believe whatever fan fiction you want.

You are way too gullible if you can't pick up on PR speak.

That isn't how things work and you should know that.

Whether it had anything to do with Sony Pictures and Marvel/Disney, we don't know, but the fact that Spider-Man in Marvel's Avengers was exclusive to PS4 suggests that a deal was made.

The expansion of Insomniac into Wolverine muddies the waters though.

Sony gave Bungie 3.6bn to have their logo on their splash screen and their games on their revamped subscription service only…..

A steal lol
No, Sony bought them and their IPs. Means that with the first game of their next Halo/Destiny top IP (they are working on multiple new IPs, have 900 workers) will recoup this investment so after that everything will be profits and top IPs for Sony that they will be able to milk with other studios or in movies and tv.

Plus their data, tools, knowledge and expertise will teach PS Studios to make top huge MP games, GaaS and FPS. So will profit even more from this investment. Also, being in more platforms will help them reach more potential future fans who may end buying a PS to play other Sony games.

Everyone should relax. As assured by Sony, it'll remain multiplatform. Maybe we're kinda heading into a strange new kind of war, pure money? This might force MS to rethink their strategey with the latest multiplatform studios they bought.
MS won't rethink it, when MS bought Mojang, Zenimax or ABK they said that that their plan was to continue supporting these comunities on the other consoles where they already are. And for all the games, updates and DLCs they released until now it has been the case, none of them is Xbox exclusive. Maybe some in the future may be (probably only timed) console exclusive, but I'm pretty confident that the biggest ones will continue being multi.

This problem with this is Sony paid for the experience attached to Bungie. This will go towards developing other studios while Bungie make their next IP.

Antagonising staff at Bungie will lead to staff jumping ship and you have Destiny but not the means to effectively make use of it. They is no point to paying that much for just Destiny. Leave them alone to make their own choices while Sony Studios learn from Bungie's GAAS expertise which is clearly lacking.
You really think people jump ship because of the lead? Do you think this is a Naruto anime or something?

They will stay multi, yes, just won’t release on Xbox.
They will. This is from their FAQ

Why? They would still make money off of every copy sold and bundle the games again. They will get all the money from microtransactions. I think this is just A GAF/ERA problem. These sites are a Haven for single player experiences and don't comprehend and tend to dislike / not like anything GaaS. Yes I understand the game with the highest amount of OT's in GAF history is Destiny but that doesn't change the fact if a poll was done here today "what do you like more single player or GaaS" that single player would win by some ridiculous number. The talk of "boring acquisition" is stemming from people who don't get it. Yet this move will benefit the the larger majority of PS5 users that don't post on forums, and yes, having a new Bungie IP on the system (even if it's not an exclusive) will make Bank for Sony once the faucet is turned on and money rolls in from Xbox and PC
How is Sony getting the money if bungie has the optional publishing rights first if they want to ?

From my understanding when the game is published by a company / studio, it’s them that fund the project and benefit from the income.

Now I am sure there are certain agreements here is happening between Sony and bungie. Sony is not a cheerleader to just wave and promote the title with no income .

But to spend 3.6 billion and you don’t get exclusive future title like destiny 3 for example is kinda fucked up.

Which doesn't really do much for me because I never liked Destiny. But I'm willing to accept that I might be the minority?

However, not being able to play Bethesda games, new Dooms or Wolfenstein, Activision games on my preferred console would really upset me. MS is weirdly making a library of exclusives that severely interests me.

But it doesn't really matter because I think I'm just going to be PC this new generation.

Sure, Just like Phil Spencer won’t take usebase from the competition. You’re drinking the same kool-aid ps users drank when believing Starfield would be on ps5. Seriously.
I never believed that Bethesda games would make it on PS. The only ones I was edging towards were subscription games that would keep the playerbase up. Who honestly believed Starfield and Elder Scrolls would be on PS?

I doubt Bungie would be bought if their creativity was shackled by Sony. Bungie will be left to their own devices and share expertise. They are going to behave the same as two days ago except for sharing with other PS studios/partners

About the exclusivity I have two ways of thinking or guesses…

- Destiny 2 will be supported on all platforms for it lifetime with DLCs and every in parity across all platforms.

- New games will be either exclusive or console exclusive (PS+PC).

Bungie / Ryan words basically rule out any change in Destiny 2.

I don’t care about Bethesda, Bungie and A/B games, your point?

Yes, they’ll be left to their own devices, except they won’t release new games on Xbox. Destiny 2 is the last Bungie game on Xbox and it’ll keep receiving support. This is not hard to understand.

Didn't Jim Ryan literally say they will release on "rival consoles"? That is a direct quote.

Where'd he say this? This is new info to me.
You can read the official blog post on PlayStation.blog or Bungie's own FAQs.

Yes, Sony has acquired Bungie. Yes, Bungie is joining PlayStation BUT Sony has agreed to let Bungie operate as if they are independent (can self-publish) and have clearly stated that their games will be on multiple platforms which includes the Xbox.

How this acquisition dressed as a partnership evolves in the future is anyone's guess but the fact based on what is said as of this moment → their titles will be on all platforms (including Xbox).

Both Bungie AND Jim Ryan said the new games won’t be exclusive and Ryan even said they’d be on other consoles. So that kills the PS5+PC theory right there.
He didn’t say that or at least there is no quote about that.

In simple terms he said Destiny 2 will continue being supported in all platforms and futures IPs will be multiplatforms if Bungie chooses it.

Multiplatforms can be a lot of things.
Bungie has the independence to choose it means a lot of things.

Any of his claims ruled out a Xbox release neither a PC/PS5 only release for new games.

I posted the Destiny 2 population numbers with several sources yesterday and people tried to deny it.

Now Tom Warrior posts it and become truth lol
He not even posted where he got the numbers lol

BTW when the new season releases that numbers go up to over 2 million daily… in slow times like yesterday it is really low like 750k per day.

Probably very few games in the market have bigger population than Destiny 2 plus the active base keep paying $70-80 per year.

What is dead may never die.

More than 1 million preordered the witch queen expansion.

it's weird that he doesn't quote him yet the article is about the interview but its becoming clear what the strategy long term is and its live service as well ( like MS)

I feel like we'll be playing on sub services only in the future and in the cloud on mobile.

I got more confidence in Bungie on Playstation and SONY rather than Bungie on Microsoft, I believe SONY will win this generation.

The possibilities of Bungie not being shackled by Activision’s constant need for monetization merged with support from Sony’s studios and long term thinking really makes me believe Bungie will transform into an even bigger powerhouse in GaaS

10 years from now it’s very possible they are at the very top of the development food chain with multiple huge IP that service millions of users daily

I showed you Jim’s words above.
That agree with what I explained.
He says Destiny will continue on all platforms and that will continue with future releases. And Bungie says their new game isn’t exclusive.
Read again.
He says Destiny 2 will stay like it is and the multiplatform approach will carry to future projects.

You know he never talked about Xbox… and PC+PS5 is multiplatform like I said.

Late he says Bungie has the independence to choose what they want.
