I’m going to be honest,
As someone who has preferred PlayStation as my primary console for sometime (ps2 launch, ps3 first 3 months - yes, I paid the $600, and PS4 launch) when I speak criticizing of Sony recently and remark about how their arrogance is haunting them again - stuff like this is exactly it.
The arrogance that almost cost them their console back in the early ps3 days is back. Sony doesn’t seem to understand that their hype and current share of the market is due to not exclusively a great and diverse gaming lineup, but also the pro player and consumer stance they took bravely during the opening of last generation. The Sony that was ridiculed for the KZ2 “trailer” before the ps3 launch that worked their TALE off to bring that into reality, the Sony that stuck with small developers and gave chances to studios like Media Molecule, the Sony that came out and opposed Microsoft DRM bs with a mic drop heard round the world - THAT’S the Sony people love.
This arrogant attitude they have developed with Layden and now Ryan has been a gloomy unfolding. Diversity and creativity of games has waned, their desire to censor has increased, they’re being outspent by their biggest rival.
Stuff sucks.
I long for the Tretton days. It was good to be a PS person then, IMO.
Before anybody blames me of just being anti-PS, even with my criticisms - I still prefer PlayStation and hope it does some reflecting. I like all the consoles for different reasons, but PS has been my gaming hub for most of my life with Nintendo closely alongside. I don’t want PS to fail. Sometimes though, you have to criticize what you love. Turning a blind eye doesn’t amount to anything at the end of the day.
Edit: I don’t know much about this title, to be clear and fair. But I would much rather Sony choose not to sell games at all on their platform if it pushed a boundary, than to censor an artist work - even if it’s something I dislike.
It just isn’t a good look for a corporation to stamp their moral mark on someone else’s work.
