Certain Affinity announces deepening their relationship with 343 and have been entrusted to further evolve Halo Infinite in new and exciting ways.

Exactly what Halo Infinite's "Tatanka" is remains to be seen, but rumors I've received lately point to it having battle royale elements in the least, complete with a shrinking arena. I suspect it will have a unique twist or two to differentiate itself from the Call of Duty Warzones and Fortnites of the world, though.

Certain Affinity is a studio I trust about 10x more than 343i that's for sure.

they made the Halo 2 Anniversary Multiplayer after all, and that was, and still is, the best Halo MP since Bungie left, although it had its issues like genrade indicators.

the biggest issue Halo currently has is 343i tho, which also is responsible for every major decision and therefore will hold Halo back no matter who helps them

That Bonnie woman clearly is unfireable. She must have some dirt on him.
I think it’s more the optics of firing a woman when they are a minority in the tech/gaming industry and she’s probably in one of the most prominent positions in the industry. Regardless of it being 100% deserved based on performance, the optics wouldn’t be good for MS. They’d be hit by all the cuck gaming sites like IGN, and the Twitterati/Ree purple hair mob screeching in to their plates of chicken tendies.

Wonder if this will be the beginning of a "transition period" ... This whole thing is just too weird.

Well CA are said to be working on a Monster Hunter-like as well, if you believe those rumors. I don't know if they have the capacity to also take over Halo on top of all that. But maybe they do?

For sure though I think this is definitely the beginning of moving 343i away from lead role on the Halo series, and it's probably for the best.

Pretty much. Studios partner with and help other studios all the time in this industry, but when it's for a major xbox game/studio it's an issue.

I mean, you can't deny Halo Infinite has been a bit of a shit show for the past three months 🤷‍♂️...

Point 1 - Yeah, I'm wondering if they are taking over maintenance and updates while a plan to move Halo to another group is happening. I just don't see how this situation is tenable. 343i has to be one of the biggest disaster stories the industry has ever seen.

Point 2 - You're not familiar with Senjutsu's posting, are you? :messenger_tongue:

343 needs a total shakeup or just a complete shuttering of the studio. They stink. It’s honestly mind blowing how much money and time was sunk into Infinite and it still feels like a beta months after release.

How are these posts still a thing? :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Does Sony Santa Monica need to be shut down when another studio announced roughly the same thing when they announced they were coming on to help with God of War Ragnarok after previously having history with God of War 2018? Certain Affinity has been involved with Halo for 15 years.

I actually can deny such a thing because I happen to think most of the people who are overreacting about Halo Infinite are idiots seeking attention. I bought Halo Infinite for the campaign, which I thought was the best campaign in the franchise, so, no, it hasn't been a shit show.

Oh that could also be it, potentially. Can't picture 343i being completely out of the picture; they are still useful even if they get relegated to say just bulk content and technical support. Maybe The Initiative makes a game doc for the game or a new Halo altogether and they oversee the upper management side of things while 343i just builds out the content, and CA provides technical support for Infinite in the meantime.

Lol I'm familiar, I'm just wondering how anyone can seriously downplay the issues with 343i seeing where Halo Infinite's at. There's no scenario where the game is doing "just fine" xD.

I mean I'm glad you had fun with the campaign, just too bad there was no co-op. Or Forge. Or that many maps. Or guns. Or a lot of things that were staples at Day 1 for other Halo games :S

Just look at the player counts on Steam. The game's not doing so hot.

Did God of War take 7 years and hundreds of millions to launch unfinished? I don’t know anyone who is still playing Halo. There aren’t nearly enough maps, it’s been out for months, and they’re talking about more cosmetics and fuckin cookbooks.

You would think its a matter of time before MS buy them.
When you have a studio like this having such a big input into the development of your game you can't afford to have that studio bought out by another company. Just imagine if FB or Disney buy them. All of a sudden you have most likely lost them working on your game which will set you back big time.
In this day and age support studio resources are hard to get. There's far more demand than supply.
It's why Sony bought the support studios they did.

I would honestly prefer Microsoft to contract Halo out to Certain Affinity and have 343 work on something else. After they fire most of its studio management, directors, and leads.

I was surprised myself that Microsoft hadn't announced a buyout when they started their acquisition run four years ago. Now, it's possible they just told them no and want to remain independent. After all, the studio was started by ex-Bungie devs in 2006, which was a year before Bungie announced it was splitting from Microsoft. So there may have been some lingering feelings there. One of those, "Yeah, we'll work with you but you won't own us". But, there may be something bigger preventing it. In 2017, Leyou invested $10 million into Certain Affinity in exchange for 20% ownership of the company. Then in 2020, Tencent bought Leyou. Therefor, Tencent effectively owns 20% of Certain Affinity. I'm not sure on all the nuances and leverages, but that may be an issue for Microsoft to buy them, assuming they want to sell.

People getting triggered at any slight against 343.

I have played and enjoyed every 343 halo. Infinite mp is my favourite halo mp hands down and pretty much the only thing that I have played since it launched

But that doesn’t excuse the lack of everything and the fact that after 6yrs, the game was far from finished. Not to mention the ongoing network issues and other stuff that needs fixing.

Infinite is my first time ever playing any Halo MP at all. I don't count the 1 or 2 matches played in Halo 3 MP Beta that came with the first crackdown. I don't really care about maps because I know more will come eventually. And, again, I'm not an MP guy to begin with. I was totally fine with the guns, they were excellent in the campaign and the plentiful refueling locations make them even better.

Most people in the Halo community don't know what the fuck they want to begin with, so I've learned to ignore/tune them out and only pay attention when they're saying shit I'm interested in hearing. 343i gave them a variety of weapons, the badass forerunner ones especially, in Halo 4 and 5 and they all bitched anyway. Forge doesn't mean anything to me. I've never played Halo co-op in my life, and may never do so. In fact, the only game I've ever tried co-op with ever was the first gears I think, and then I immediately concluded I would never waste my time doing that again. Maybe it's just not for me in certain games. It distracts too much from the story.

What does steam player count have to do with the overall success of a game that has its largest community by far on xbox consoles? People find games rather quickly or damn near instantly when they try. You would think it would be more difficult for a supposed troubled game with a shrinking population. Guess Xbox gamers haven't quite gotten the memo?

BTw this thread is evidence moderation is broken. How it isn't already a graveyard in here based on some of the posting I've seen is a miracle. I get warnings for much, much less.

You don't need tens of thousands of concurrent players to have enough people for a match.

But, you DO need that to make financial sense for a game that supposedly has already cost hundreds of millions of dollars to make and keep running/adding content.

Who?
What is the total 5 teams sent to fix it now?

Here you go again shitting up another Xbox thread with ignorance, proving to everybody once again you have zero knowledge on anything Xbox related so your fanboy trolling ends up falling flat on it's face.

Who? Certain Affinity have been working on Halo for 15 years now, are made up of ex-Bungie devs, and have been a support studio to Halo since Halo 2 and 3. The CEO is the guy who actually created the Halo 2 MP rank system.

They're not "fixing" the game, they're working on a BR mode that's to be the successor of Warzone. They're also creating a MonHun like game for Microsoft and have been a support studio for their other games, as well. CA is extremely talented for their staff size, hence all the posts here praising them..

I hope I educated you, so try again next time 😉

Yes, general consensus is campaign was great, but criticisms about multiplayer are absolutely valid.

Just yesterday, MCC got a new PvE update while Infinite players have had nothing new the last few months, only two new maps to look forward to in the near future, and overdue features sometime after that.

Given how many delays and how long it's taken them to fix things that were broken, an update like that isn't going to happen anytime soon for Infinite and players are absolutely right to be asking how MCC is getting that while it's crumbs for Infinite. Different teams or not, the writings on the wall that management on Infinite MP needs to be better.

To be fair, MCC launched in a much worse state than Infinite and is now regarded as one of the best games out there in scope and content. The recent update solidifies that. If Infinite is even remotely close to MCC in the end then we are in for a treat. They absolutely nailed the gameplay, now they just need continued content.

Edit: beaten by 3 mins lol, damn you Craig of War!

Won't be surprising. They started off with Halo content, it would bring them full circle to become a secondary Halo studio next to 343i, like Treyarch and Infinity Ward.

Not to mention having their first IP (Monster Hunter clone) developed under Microsoft. I expect the acquisition announced close to the game announcement.
