My first time journey through Xenoblade Chronicles(Definitive Ed.)

watched the XBC 3 trailers closely?, some characters resemble Elma a bit too much...

I know exactly who you're referring to. Its just them utilizing her combat style. Monolith reusing an older asset, nothing more. X has zero story connection to the other Xenoblade games.

Should I stop using Shulk as my main?

I currently have reyn and shuck as my other party members fighting auto with me as shuck and Dunban is just sat out.

No idea what I'm doing in Xeno 1 lol
Shulk is pretty straightforward. Dunban is pretty fun since he's an evasion tank and his arts give you buff/debuff. Reyn is just tank, only good for keeping agro. You don't really need to understand the system completely and you can still finish the game.

Sweet, thx man. I thought as much. Soldiering through with shuck for now.

Other question, I'm collecting so much shit....do I just sell it all? Armour that seems weak etc, or is it maybe used later for craftingnir something.

I have tons and a bit confused on what I should keep or sell.

Have you got the OST set to original or remastered?.

The original is absolutely different class to the remastered version.

Yoko Shimomura only composed the main theme and Colony 9 day/night the rest was ACE+.
I didn't even know you could change it lol. Should I change to original?
Most of your criticism is fair. I think what was important about this game is that it did something drastically different from what other RPGs were doing in a really aesthetically pleasing way. The battle system wasn't amazing (though I did like how they tied the story to battle system abilities) and the questing was alright, but I really hated how many quests there were. Felt like content bloat, which is something I despise in games as its just padding. You finish a quest with an NPC and they give you four more. You should have one or two quests per NPC max imo unless you do a detailed side story or something. The story started out great, with great plot action, but falls apart in the third act due to unnecessary exposition. By the end of the game the exposition and questing wore me out despite the beauty of the different areas and the music. And I somewhat agree with you about the music. I think it's a fantastic OST, but the songs towards the beginning are just so good and stand out that everything else pales in comparison. I'm assuming you'll play 2 next? It's actually quite different in almost every way. Besides the starting areas, overall, I would say it's the better game as I had no trouble completing it. The story is OK, like generic anime OK. I really like the concept behind the blades, but the gatcha mechanic and the sure amount of grind necessary was ill concieved imo. I'm pretty sure looking at what they've refined, that 3 will be the best. The artwork looks much better, the world design has the scale of part 1, and the music sounds amazing. Really looking forward to it.
Yes, I'm doing XC2 next. I want to do 3 as well, but 3 super lengthy JRPGs in a row for me will probably be intolerable. I'll need to change it up and play XC3 at another time.
I don't think this is Yoko's quality of composition. The music she did for the game was among her best I would say. It was the dumb decision to follow the BotW trend with minimal music which made things feel really strange and even more hollow than they were. Looks like 16 won't this problem thankfully.
Radiant Historia was a really good soundtrack by her. I thought so far from what I've heard it dwarfs XC1.

I personally prefer the original ost, I just loved the original years back and listening to remastered just wasn't clicking for me.

I actually went on my PC where I have the Xenoblade OST, and went through the track list, and to no surprise all the tracks I like so far are Yoko's and most of the others, like people here mentioned I didn't care for much are ACE+ or Manami Kiyota.

So, this is more of a collab soundtrack for sure. I had a feeling before others mentioned it. Yoko is too damn good to churn out some of the mundane stuff I've heard so far.

You can sell it, it'll fill up your inventory pretty quick. There are same armor with gem slot, so maybe keep the one with slot for a while

Get rid of Sharla. She's the worst character in the game. Her damage is bad and you don't need her for healing when you have access to Riki.
I suggest one of two parties right now:
Shulk/Dunban/Reyn.

This is a damage powerhouse. Make sure that you control Shulk. Keep in mind that not every character is controlled well by the AI: Some characters, such as Shulk or Melia, are actually not very good unless you pilot them yourself. The biggest issue with this team is that you don't have a lot of healing. That won't be an issue at all for normal enemies as your damage will be so high that you'll plow through everything, but it might be a bit of an issue with bosses if you're not properly level'd or equip'd.

Shulk/Dunban/Riki. Dunban is widely considered to be the best tank. Stack him up on agility gems so that he will dodge every attack. This is a very balanced team as Riki can both be your ether damage dealer and your healer. He will fulfill this role much better than Sharla can. This won't reach the damage heights of the other comp I've mentioned, but its a safer option for boss fights as you'll have plenty of healing from Riki.
Ok. I may just learn Dunban run with Shulk and Riki.

How is Melia?

Sweet, thanks. I'll make sure I'm selling everything but it proves tricky with hownit auto sores itself to the newest items.

Think I'll go Shulk, Dunban and Riki once they turn up. I'm still early really and don't have Riki yet.

You can change the sort items, I forgot which button but it's on the upper side. There's also auto sell button by holding Y, it sells stuff from the item you choose and goes down automatically.

NO PAIN TRANCE CONTINUE
Played first 20 min (inclusing cutscenes) and REALLY digged the grassy starting area. I just wanted to check it out of curiosity because I want to end or plat Elden Ring first. Graphics looked great. Will have to adjust immensely regarding battles due to the above mentioned title.

Good first impressions anyways

I'm at Mechonis Field. Have surpassed the 100 hour mark, but it's not a true 100 hours, because I took naps and let it idle while playing a few times. But definitely logged 90+. I'm planning on doing every quest in the game, so this will take 160+ I'm guessing.

Also found a track I really liked. Felt like PS2 era JRPG track

When I asked a guy he said 40 hours. I guess when you go from A to B to C and ignore all the sidestuff.

Side questing has accounted for 90% of my time so far probably. I’ve had times where two full play sessions in a row 6 hours each on back to back days were both just all questing. Every time you get into a new town or area, like 40 side quests open up. Plus resource collecting, plus unique monster hunting, plus upgrading equipment, etc.

Sounds cool man

Maybe it was about Metroid Dread lol. Makes more sense.

Thanks though, now I know more about the game =)

I'm pretty close to the end I think. Finished Mechonis Core and did a ton of side stuff. The game has reached the point that all RPGs eventually do for me no matter how much I like them where if I play too long eventually I'm like ok time to wrap this up. Gonna try to power through the rest of the content as quickly as I can to move on to Xeno 2.

Massive games like this can really wear on me. I love them very often, but I do prefer more traditional JRPGs as much as I like this game. I do miss the abundance of more traditional JRPGs as everything is going massive now.

Glad you recognized reaching that point instead of forcing yourself for 100%. I think the value of having so much side content is just to give players a variety of things to do along the way, and maybe provide some opportunity for a bit of a different experience in each playthrough. Trying to tackle it all in one go just sounds like a recipe for ruining the game for yourself.

I'm going to try to finish as much as I can, just going to skip all the dialogue in the side stuff lol.

Ok since taking a break and playing a 100 ours off Hades I started playing this a bit more. Switch my party to Shulk Dunban and Riki

Oh man it’s fun now. I just got through chapter 9.

I backtracked a bit and beat most of not all the side quest. I didn’t realize that would go so quickly. I still have some things to check off but I am just collecting all the quests and blowing through the dialogue. I wouldn’t have even known about colony 9 without forums.

Playing expert just because I’m over leveled and I like things to have a bit of meaning in combat. Match up closer to the monsters I’m fighting. Still east except for a few mob encounters.

The items are cool and lots of armor choices. I like the fashion aspect quite a bit but dang the women have some
Slutty outfits. Not safe to play with my fiancé. Does XB2 have items like this?

I bought and booted up XB2 as well and will try that next. XB looks impressive still on my setup but 2 definitely looks nicer.
