Sony appreciates "the CMA’s focus on protecting gamers" as it welcomes the announcement to further investigate the Activision acquisition

So we are agreed all 3 companies can bid for exclusives timed or not. So you should blame the companies who accept these deals and screw over their fans on other platforms.
It's funny how it's always Sony forced/made/took away but not the actual company who makes or owns the IP. It's never their fault.
ABK put themselves up for sale. They went to many other companies for a potential purchase of their company. They were denied. Microsoft took it. That's that. Sony simply couldn't afford ABK. Microsoft could. Where's the issue?

Sony simply couldn't afford ABK.
  • Sony annual revenue for 2022 was $88.301B, a 4.38% increase from 2021.
  • Sony annual revenue for 2021 was $84.594B, a 11.32% increase from 2020.

Assumptions.

MS bought Mojang long time ago and Bethesda two years ago. No games have changed on any platform.

Will PS and Nintendo be cut off? Maybe. Maybe not. But at this time, it's not.

I think a vast majority will. We already know Elder Scrolls VI for example will be on Xbox only. Starfield was also in development for PlayStation before Microsoft bought out Bethesda.

Even if not all the games are exclusive, they'll absolutely be on Gamepass day one. All those IPs on Ganepass is a huge deal and gives Microsoft a huge advantage.

I don't care about COD and it's not a selling point to get an xbox/gamepass for me, but its hilarious how catty and passive aggressive Playstation leadership gets when the topic of the Activision acquisition comes up.

Jimbo is too fucking weak to fight back meaningfully.
This whole deal is really putting it all in perspective.

I know. I'm like where the hell has this CMA been the entire time Sony has basically bankrolled third parties into skipping the Nintendo Switch with games like Persona and Monster Hunter World, etc. There's really no telling for how long Sony has been dropping benjamins to fuck over Nintendo fans.
Do we know that Persona 5 hadn't come to Switch all these years BECAUSE of Sony and not because Atlus did not want to port it? But hey, I still see SMTV as a Switch exclusive.
And come on, MHW runs like at 900p/30fps on PS4, it would not be possible on Switch, and in contrast, MHR is still not on PS5 and Xbox Series!

So Sony putting some select games on PC many months after release is good for the industry but Microsoft putting every game on PC day and date is them wanting to gatekeep?

Yes, because its a new initiative to port their first-party product onto PC. On the other hand XBox has barely had a first-party worth a shit for years, hence them spending literally billions over the last few years to buy one!

You really think its laudable that MS is buying up publishers and developers that were already multi-platform (i.e. already published day and date on console and PC) and *only* instructing them to stop supporting Playstation?

You think that's "growing" the industry?

Also what about PSVR2? Nice bit of selectivity when replying to my point.

Sorry to say, but you just lost a lot of good-will from me by starting out on such a disingenuous tack.

The undeniable absolute truth is that over the past few years Sony are adding SKU's, whereas MS on the other hand are removing them.

So lets take a look how many games they each have on the biggest independent PC store, Steam. This takes Gamepass and gatekeeping out of the equation right?

Xbox Game Studios - 216 products (of which 51 are games)
Playstation Studios - 36 products (only 8 are games)
How does their presence on Steam take GamePass out of the equation? Are we supposed to pretend that these storefronts are not competing with one-another in terms of attention and user-engagement?

Also, once again are we supposed to congratulate MS for finally showing interest despite owning the underlying OS market on PC since day#1 and after years of failure in establishing their own storefront to compete against Steam?!? Remember Games For Windows?

That their advantage in product volume isn't exponentially larger speaks volumes in itself. That's how little MS have traditionally cared about gaming.

Nope, your counter-argument holds no water whatsoever.

I strongly disagree and feel that if anything you've strengthened my position.

I bizarrely got a warning from the mods. For what I have no idea...
The corrupt CMA have infiltrated the GAF moderation team. I suspect this is Jim Ryan’s doing. Everyone knows that as he’s a well known UK businessman, he’s practically on first name terms with everyone at the CMA. I’d say the two are clearly working hand in hand to silence you SatsumaSage.

But I believe in you. Fuck you u/Spez and the rest of the mod team.

Is this where we call Evillore a cunt?

Wow this is getting sad... just imagine the tantrums once this deal goes through and Xbox decides to go after EA etc next.
I don't think they will, for all I know, these Bethesda and Activision buyouts were mainly to feed content to Game Pass, so all of this could be enough.

sorry why is revenue actually being used as a metric to be able to purchase something? what about the cost of revenue etc etc.
yikes

That's phenomenal set of five detailed and numbers driven sentences that prove Xbox's financials which arent disclosed.

Hey, Activision makes about $8 billions sales and $2 billion profit according to their latest data. There's your pool of profit to keep Xbox and GP going.

There’s a reason Microsoft doesn’t disclose the numbers. Read between the tea leaves

Microsoft won’t make $2B in profit from Activision if it both removes content from PlayStation and also offers content much cheaper on GamePass

This isn’t complicated

Sony's reasoning of protecting gamers and the industry really makes no sense. Gamers and the industry will be just fine if acti-blizz is acquired by Microsoft.
Also if this deal does not go through it could be even worse news for sony because Microsoft will still have the means and intentions to expand there gamepass offerings.

Some massive concessions will be the result by march 2023.
Nah, The UK just like Australia and NZ have no bearing on it. Do you honestly thing that if New Zealand say the acquisition can't go ahead it won't?
There are only two places that count and that's the US and EU. Once it has been approved by them then every other country will fall in behind them.
They just have to make themselves look like they are investigating it.

And Sony are just continuing the embarrassing cringe crying, which is just so amusing and stupid.
Do you honestly think that MS is going to play nice with Sony after all their shit trying to stop the acquisition?
The acquisition will go ahead, and MS will make everything other than COD exclusive and once Sony's contracts are over they will lose any marketing rights to COD and it will be in GP day one.
This is what Sony is worried about.
If MS have COD day 1 on GP then it will boom. Then the shit will hit the fan for Sony.

You said sustainable not profitable. Again you have no idea how they are using the revenue.

Plus the games are still for sale. If they weren’t, I would agree with you 100%
