How the FUCK did DICE manage to make this in 2011?

I think that compared to 11-12 years ago we are seeing what pushing for 4K or 1440p+ native resolution, HDR, 60-120 FPS, less artist intensive rendering hacks and more dynamic lighting, real-time ray traced reflections and shadows, physically based shading, etc… does in terms of requiring resources vs the expectations with 2+ console generations and insane growth in PC parts prices. There is a lot more going on under the hood of modern games sometimes we do not give them enough credit for.

looks about what i expect from 2011. now uncharted 3 and last of us? visuals like that shouldnt even be possible on PS3.

Two years ago I brought my ps3 to a repair shop to fix the sudden shutdown. They tested the unit by hooking it up to a small monitor (maybe 17 inch) and ran BF3. It looked amazing.

No, Battlefield 3 doesn't have a PS4 or XBO version.

how the FUCK did Namco make this in 1998 and it ran at flawless 60 fps on a $200 console?

I was still playing on may PS1 at the time... Seeing photos of those games on Games Magazines thinking "how the fuck are they doing that" and being giga impressed.

Most of those devs are working on this game. Probably coming this year, hope it will be amazing

Yeah. They were founded about 5 years ago and, according to Linkedin, have well over 200 staff. Which kinda lines up with the supposed exodus of developers from DICE. My only concern is that they are apparently working on multiple games. Arc Raiders being one of the others. I hope they're not spreading themselves too thin.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Was easily one of the most awful solo FPS campaigns, why focus on that to show it off? Multiplayer was pretty decent. I'd say Bad Company 1 & 2 were more impressive for having more and less scripted destruction and what not though. Also not so awful campaigns, especially the 1st.

Battlefield always has the best multiplayer videos. everytime i see one i'm like why the fuck am i not playing Battlefield right now? then i start playing it and i remember it's a running and dying simulator. Still i think my favorite was Bad Company 2. so good.

It reminds me of this 4k max settings Battlefront vid -

I mean if this was a new next gen game releasing today, we'd be creaming over it.

Then compare it to Battlefield 2042 lol. Dont know what happened to DICE but we do know they have lost a LOT of devs over recent years.

If you look at footage of MW2 Warzone running on Xbox Series S and compare it to Battlefield 3 running on 360, I think you'd be hard-pressed to believe the newer game looks better than the old one. Consider for a moment that there's 0 destruction in CoD while BF3 will let you level entire structures chunk by chunk. It's embarrassing what's become of this industry.

The franchise peaked for me with Bad Company 2. We were also treated to a proper expansion in Vietnam. I enjoyed BF3 and BF4 also though not as much as BC2. In BC2 people actually worked as a team. Lone-wolfing just ended up getting you killed. Much better pushing a point or objective as a squad. That’s where the action was anyways. I was always perplexed that future games haven't reintroduced the destruction technology that was implemented so well in BC2. The idea of an evolving Battlefield is still something that could be done waaaay better than we have seen thus far. It’s such a shame Dice sold out and fell on the sword of wokeness.

does seem like there was some sort of step backwards in games from ps3/360 era to ps4 era .
Graphics got better, but it seems many games took a step back in terms interactivity with the environment and physics simulation. Hopefully, as we move forward with these much more powerful Ryzen CPUs, both this gen and the next, we can get back to evolving in those areas.

Cause that doesn't concern what most buyers willing to pay for , I'm sorry but that doesn't help just by pointing the issue , if cod players ever second guess their decision on making their choices then we may see the light of creativity again, cod designers aren't willing to give you that magic cause that's how they conquered the market by not giving you what you want but what the story guys wanted.

BF3 had the bells and whistles. It felt like a great product. BF4 was pretty awesome too, but I think it was BF3 that had me think the franchise had something special. It’s crazy how far the franchise fell. It’s like they got sick of what made them great in the first place. It went to hardline, back in time, and then into the future. It made me not want to play BF anymore.
well having EA pressuring them to make a BF game almost every year can have that effect. I wish they could have 3-4 years every each iteration i am sure BF would have still been great

BF3 was BF at its peak. BF4 was slightly worse and they completely fell off with BF games after BF4.

BF2042 was a shitshow at launch but with updates it’s actually good now just not anywhere as good as BF3 and BF4 were.

This is footage from a top PC or even just CGI gameplay. It was very cool and hype inducing back in the day.

There's a reason why many of us didn't see a big generational leap between 7th and 8th gen... You could already see games looking "a generation or almost ahead" in their PC versions, so I'm not impressed if that game came out in 2011, games from that period just looked way ahead (see Crysis 3, Batman Arkham City, Remember Me, etc, etc.)

I work in the game industry, it's not just an opinion
The wrong people for the wrong reasons or just many more people are now required which automatically lowers the average and the added complexity in cooperation needs again more people, someone managing, checking, testing and sticking everyone's contributions together and everything adds friction. I am actually more surprised that games with credits as long as Ubisoft or eg The Avenger game still run decently. Bringing even two people on one page is often barely possible. 10 might be fine if everyone has clean cut areas, 100 and above must end in a terrible patchwork.

The IT-sector generally is exploded and while many are good enough for many things, game development isn't just self taught freaks anymore, this must lead to having worse, but still necessary people involved. Those perceived unqualified diversity hires might just be the next best thing available? Some team photos often look like the weirdos are already overrepresented so the need to add even more must be minimal and makes in a capitalist system just no sense at all.

Most of those talented devs are working on this game. Probably coming this year. I feel like nobody is even talking about this game but i think its gonna be mindblowing especially destruction

I sincerely hope they can hit the floor running! Knowing Nexon it'll get the full cash shop treatment before it ready.

This one looks also awesome but it's very early in development

Not even close. BFBC2 followed very closely by BF3 in my opinion.
BF4 (after the post-release updates) is where BF peaked on a technical level. Better netcode, better tick rate, basically all the content of BF3 revamped plus a whole lot of new stuff, etc.

Bad Company was "milquetoast console battlefield" with soem of the worst map design in the series that some of you fools remember fondly only because it was the first meaningful apparition of the series among console peasants.

If I had to guess, the studio meetings back then were more about ambitious design versus pronouns and diversity training.

My brother-in-law works a mobile app company in Austin and they're constantly having meetings about pronouns and equality. If their not doing that, it's constant discussions to probe for people who have conservative tendencies.

The real problem with Dice is how EA decided to take a team that was extremely focused on making one type of game and engine that was heavily built very very specifically for that specific type of game and retooled them into a team that was tasked with primarily building up that engine to be used across all of EA for all types of games. DICE basically had to quickly frankenstein feature after feature into the engine as quickly as possible as often time, they didn't know it was needed until a studio came calling saying it was crucial to their new title.
This resulted in a poorly built engine that could no longer keep up with what other technology groups were putting out.
This shift in focus also resulted in a loss of talent. You can see head creatives leaving DICE after BF3 was released.
For all the incels here chiming in about diversity hires. It's Sweden. What diversity? Take your political BS elsewhere.

TLDR: EA did what EA does and ruined DICE
