People will use this to shit on 343, but the fact of the matter is that all the purging of old timers is working.

Halo Infinite is in a pretty fantastic state, and 343 is one of only two Microsoft studios (other being Obsidian) actually getting shit done these days.

He's honestly the main reason in my book. He completely anhilated the LORE Bungie has carefully build for Halo 1-3, ODST and Reach.

Microsoft Studios management became really bad;strange after Phil took over so i dont blame Bonni and Kiki as much.
What about the lore specifically did he annihilate?

I'm not sure what the other poster is referring to, but I personally didn't like how convoluted the lore got post Halo 3, and how it seemed like they went off in a different direction than the foreshadowing Bungie had laid out would suggest - that humans are actually Forerunners fulfilling the reclaimer duty. Why else would humans show up as Forerunner artifacts when the Covenant scanned Reach?

That's what I assumed he was referring to but I was just curious is if there was anything else. While I do agree that things got pretty convoluted and you started needing to read the books to understand the games.. but personally I enjoyed the change, specifically how the forerunners were fleshed out by Greg Bear. Easily my favorite series in the Halo universe!

They should give HALO to Treyarch. Those guys know how to make a game on time, on budget , and good quality. They probably would be excited to work on something a bit different as well and give them a break from COD.

Halo 1,2,3 get back to that quality the tank levels in 3 were brilliant and that beach level in halo 1, but no more arbitaer

You don't need a heavy story just some alien bastards who need a good kicking.

Frank was a wordsmith and someone I enjoyed as the community front for Halo e.g. older days or his short stories from Halo books were good etc. Recent years? Not so much.

As for running the franchise? It wasn't just one person who broke Chief's visor but a sum of the all leads allowing MCC to fuck up, CODified Halo 4 multiplayer, completely wipe themselves of Bungie lore after Halo 4 SP+terminals, Halo 5 shit campaign stories, lack of cohesion across all titles, chasing esports all the time and 6 years of Infinite lost in slipspace all the while producing that fucking laughably awful TV show shitting on everything Halo.

Good riddance to the lot of them with regard to Halo management and games released. Welcome to a fresh air of Max Hoberman's new Halo Tatanka, Hintze running 343 and moving forward.

Much like Frank's throwing of Requiem into the sun it's exactly where much of what that leadership did to Halo should go. How they steered the Halo juggernaut over the last few major releases, poor quality assurance, shitful Megablocks, books going downhill, TV shown without a clue and game stories not worthy of the title Halo is beyond me.

Someone linked this and I watched it last night, seems a pretty good summary. Basically they diverged from the lore, then wrote themselves into infinite retcons. The weight of this seems heavily put onto O'Connor who started this with IRIS and the Halo 3 terminals and then became franchise director overseeing the other changes which weren't lore bound. It's not so much that the books add context, it's that the books are part of the recon as well. So you technically need them to understand wtf had changed.

If you were a Halo fan then I can see why moving from a grounded plot into the current mess is annoying. I'm not a super fan, though I do like the lore that was set up.

Unpopular opinion probably but Halo was about Humans vs Covenant. All that forerunner arbiter crap killed the story.

There were multiple instances, not going to bother capping them all from Resetera but they kept giving him a pass because he was an "Industry name" until the dam broke. He got a weak #metoo moment as well. I know what you mean, he's got the look.

I bet Staten fucking hated working with him at 343i as he shat all over what Staten had crafted in the Halo Story Bible while Bungie had it.

Whatever direction they take - they need to take a hard look at why the classics still hold up today.
Im hoping they dont go full on into unrecognizable territory.
Sprint needs to be removed. Period.
The gameplay needs to be slowed down like Halo 3 - not fast and wacky nonsense.
Map design needs to be improved tenfold. The 343 iterations maps have nothing on the Bungie classics - not a single map in all those years stand out.

Not every game needs to be solely about Chief and Cortana - there are far more Spartans in the lore to be used.
Reach and ODST proved you can make a (good) campaign without the Chief.

That's everyone that botched it up right? I like infinite because the gameplay is the best it's been since 3, but they've made some real strange decisions about everything else.

Hmmm, I'll reserve judgement on this until I see who comes into replace him. Indeed this clearing of house is neither good nor bad until we see what the new teams direction is.
